A sketchy hole in the wall that you will be so glad you ventured into! Fresh, fresh, fresh! Grilled Chicken Salad with rice and beans comes to about $ 7.50 and it is beyond satisfying and definitely fills you up. The Pork Bahn Mi is also highly recommended! Cash only.

Incredibly priced, and very delicious. It’s the it’s salad in NYC where you can actually see the chicken or meat in the salad.

Unexpected midtown lunch gem. I’d recommend asking for a fish banh mi sandwich(it’s not on the menu but they do make it). It’s super filling and they’re really generous with the pickled radish and carrots. You could easily split it into two lunches. Great value for money.

Their grilled chicken sandwich never disappoint me. For $ 6, u can’t find this price and the amount of food anywhere else in Manhattan!

This is probably the best spot in this part of town. I go here all the time. The Grilled Chicken Sandwich has become a regular thing for everyone in my office on Fridays(Bahn Mi — Fridays). For only 6 bucks, you can’t beat it, the pork and steak is also really good and reasonably priced. I suggest calling in your order before you get there because it can get crowded very quickly. Also don’t forget that they only accept cash. The grilled chicken salad is also really awesome. If you are staying away from bread it is a great alternative.

Place has awesome food. Usually a line to get in. I either go with grilled chicken salad or chicken sandwich. Their fried chicken with rice and beans is good too.

This is why I live in NYC. For places like this. Bahn mi — not the most traditional, but generous, tasty, and cheap in price only. Tried the chicken and beef, both great!

One of the best Bahn Mi in Manhattan. And with the price, you cannot go wrong. Not a great place to sit and eat. I’d prefer take out. This is a Cash Only place.

This is my local chicken spot near the office. I come here and order a plate of grilled chicken for $ 5. They have chicken salads(very basic), Bahn mi sandwiches, chicken and rice and other options. This is your basic grilled chicken. I like how the chicken has a charred exterior and moist inside. It’s just good grilled chicken plain and simple. I’m giving the chicken house 4 stars because it’s a reliable spot that consistently provides a good product. It’s a great low carb option near the office in area with almost nothing to offer in that category. Tip: Tell them you want extra chicken, they’ll ask you how much you want to pay and they will give you more than the standard $ 5 serving.

CASHONLY Keep in mind that even though they serve vietnamese items, the dishes themselves don’t taste that authentic… they’re more vietnamese-inspired. I got a Chicken Bahn Mi Sandwich for lunch and was very happy. For $ 6, this thing was huge! It’s not as strongly flavored as more authentic viet places, but it’s still very delicious. It has a lot of fresh veggies and grilled meat, and the bread itself was very good… get ready to unhinge and bite with ferocity because this sandwich is not for the weak-jawed. Since i work around the corner, i’ll definitely be coming back often.

Banh mi and fried chicken in one place is an excellent idea, if only the banh mi was as good as I would’ve hoped. You do get your bang for your buck with the sandwiches because they’re huge and the bread is good. The meat is also plenty and flavorful but the addition of lettuce, mayo, and the weakly marinated carrots and radish take away from the flavor of the meat. They also offer other stuff such as rice platters and fried shrimp & fish sandwiches, which all look pretty good although I can’t confirm the flavors since I haven’t tried them yet. I do know for sure is that their prices are ideal for a filling lunch in midtown and they know how to make their meat, but if you’re looking for good banh mi, stick with authentic vietnamese restaurants. Tips: Cash only, only 4 stools for the counter, and if you want sauces on the side they will pack it into little containers for you

I came here based off of a referral from a friend. I’m new to the city, just recently started to work here. I asked for a cheap place to eat around here. They offered this place and told me their bahnmi was phenomenal. I tried the chicken bahnmi and asked them to make it extra spicy. The sauce wasn’t all too bad, they put a lot of cilantro. so if you’re not into that you should not get this sandwich. There was a decent amount of chicken and for $ 6 in the city the portion was bad at all. After a few weeks of munching on subway sandwiches I decided to try different things in the menu. There are a few typos on the menu. so I ended up paying extra because I thought it came with it since it said AND not OR… I tried the tilapia special with rice AND beans. Apparently the beans are extra… but whatever. There was nothing special about it. it was fried. the rice was soggy. the beans were just beans. I thought eh, whatever it wasn’t horrible. so another few weeks pass and I wanted to try something else. so I get the 5 piece shrimp over rice. The greasiest fried shrimp I’ve ever had. ever… I know it sounds funny to say that about something that was deep fried. I love me a good succulent shrimp deep fried with the perfect amount of batter… This was not that. I had about 2& a half pieces. I had to stop eating because I felt like I was going to get sick. I’d definitely recommend the bahnmi. I’m not sure about anything else on the menu. CASHONLY.

Ok, don’t come here expecting a fancy sit down spot, this is purely take out, perfect for lunch. I’ve been here several times, and the bahn mi sandwiches are consistently good, and a damn good deal at $ 6.50.good sized sandwich too. They use fresh herbs as well, which is always a plus. The menu is fairly expansive, although I don’t know that I’d trust everything from here… the tilapia special for example… mmmm no thanks Pro tip: call ahead and have your sandwich ready for you to avoid waiting in the cramped store

I came here after reading the reviews on Unilocal, and OHMAN are the rumors true. There is some damn deliciousness cooking up in this tiny joint. Although the bahn mi sandwiches are not authentic, that vietnamese marinated meat they make there is legit! I usually order that grilled chicken on top of salad(the salad is nothing special — just chopped up iceberg lettuce, bell peppers and tomato). I also tried their fried chicken, and that is really good too — it’s more Asian-style fried chicken rather than American Southern-style. It has a nice light texture, but the skin is crispy and rendered from a lot of the fat, so the skin is like chicken chicharones. Of course, this place is mainly a take-out place than anything else, but the food is delicious — it’s what keeps me coming back at least 2 – 3 times a week. For a Midtown food place, this is a great place to get some amazing cheap eats. Get your bahn mi fix NOW! :-)

I went in one day because of other Unilocal reviews. I heard cheap tasty sandwiches and I was all about it. I had the chicken banh mi and it was a fucking game changer. I ate every single bite and it was an amazing experience. So good actually that I returned a few days later when I was in the area to have another. This time, roast pork. And guess what? ITSEVENBETTERTHANTHECHICKEN. Made it spicy and it was fantastic. If I could have this every day I probably would. The only reason I knocked one star off is because I felt that the bread was a little too crunchy. The kind of crunchy that cuts your mouth a bit. But regardless of that it’s an amazing sandwich and it’s only $ 6.50. You really can’t beat that. And if you can then I wanna come to your place and see for myself.

Recently started working in the area and came here for lunch based on my coworkers suggestions. I was told this place had fried chicken and randomly, bahn mi sandwiches. I love Bahn Mi so decided to try it out. Place is a legit hole in the wall, just the way I like it. There is barely enough standing room to order and wait for your order. It’s so small in fact it’s hard to tell who has ordered or who is just waiting. They actually have 4 seats along the wall if you want to stay and eat. The food here is cheap, awesome. I got the Grilled Chicken Sandwich(Bahn Mi) and it was $ 6. I know some places in Chinatown you can get it for $ 5, but for being in midtown and its size, it’s a great deal. Now the bahn mi is not a true bahn mi. It has grilled chicken, lettuce, cilantro, mayo, cucumber, carrots, dikon on toasted bread. The only thing that’s actual bahn mi like are the carrots and dikon. DOESN’T MATTER cause it’s delicious! It’s super filling too, there was a lot of chicken and veggies. As I ate stuff kept falling out. Only thing is I ordered spicy and wasn’t spicy at all. I will definitely come back and try the other stuff on the menu. I love me some good cheap eats. My waistline might not though…

I had an hour to kill before my bus, so I popped into Chicken House with a friend. I got the grilled pork banh mi, and while I waited for both my food and my friend, the employees kept me company with some friendly banter. The man working the cash register was so funny! I have to say, as much as I like this tiny place, don’t come here expecting legitimate banh mi. It was a good and filling sandwich(I could only finish half!), but there’s lettuce, a lot more mayo than you’d expect, and SO much meat! I couldn’t take a bite without chunks of pork falling out. For how cheap the sandwich was, the amount of meat you get is pretty amazing, especially for Midtown New York, but I wish it had been a little easier to eat without getting my fingers and mouth all messy. The place itself is tiny. I came before the lunch rush, but stayed until it got going. I could barely get out of the restaurant with all those people stuffed in the tiny aisle between the cash register and the seating area. Chicken House is a nice little place for a quick lunch in a super busy area of New York, though, and I’m glad I gave it a chance.

Boot leg viet sandwiches. They add lettuce which isnt what you normally find in a bahnmi. But its still pretty good. Yummy in my tummy man. The people are friendly too.

Listened to the recommendations of fellow Unilocalers and ordered myself a Grilled Pork Banh Mi(spicy)– one of the better decisions I’ve made this week. As everyone has said, it’s alot of food and very messy. But the oozy deliciousness and cool/hot contrast of the slaw and meat is amazing. For $ 6.50, I’m in paradise. I haven’t tried anything else and not sure if I want to, given the mixed reviews, but I’ll definitely be coming back for this little bit of pork heaven. Side note: they only accept cash and there are a total of 5 seats. So come prepared with those Washington’s and get it to-go.

The chicken house banh mi proved to be delicious. Juicy chicken and veggies, a with nice subtle kick from the hot sauce. All for $ 6! I do have major gripe though — their service is really bad. It’s totally confusing who has ordered, their line is long, and the food takes anywhere from 5 – 20 minutes for it to come out. It doesn’t seem like they have a good way of keeping track of the orders either, so we had to ask them a couple times for the same sandwich. Still, if you have some time to kill and you want a really banh mi, this is the place to go!
