north manhattan and the Bronx desperately need more gay nightspots and businesses that cater to LGTBQ people. I had an awesome time at Catro recently! Loved the dancers and both the clientele and the staff made me feel right at home, complimenting my outfit, which was totally fem and all pink! i’ll be back

This place is not worth it. The $ 10 cover charge is not worth it with the drinks which are small and expensive. Even if you get on the«guest list» you have to get there early. Place is overly crowded at times and the set up is weird. «VIP» is just sitting on the bench and paying a lot of money for bottom self liquor. I would avoid this place.

Went there to take some friends visiting from CT ! Love the music, DJ had an awesome selection ! Makes things even better for people that looking for having a different ambience than what usually you get in different bars . Gets pretty crowded lol so better if you have a great group to hang out with lol. Not my type of place but if it’s we some friends I’m good.

Castro bar in Dyckman has to be the shittiest place I’ve ever been to. And I’ve Been in some crappy dive bars. But this one takes the award as the crappiest most ridiculous gay bar in all of Nyc. 1-First of all Parking there is horrible, your best bet is to park in one of the parking garages that want to charge you $ 10/hr or 12/hr because it’s the weekend. 2-Cover charge, I’m all for a cover charge if the place justifies it. I understand promoters, dancers, Djs have to get paid. But when you’re trying to charge X amount and you’re not bringing anything other than ordinary to a bar. It’s unjustifiable. 3-Coatcheck, $ 5 bucks for coatcheck. 4-Dj, Why do you have to talk over every single song(specially on the good part) when there’s 5 people in the whole place. Dude let the song play! You’re better off. Stop promptly changing the songs, let something play. 5-The bartenders, this is the part that really got to me, the whole point of going to a bar is to get a drink. Have some fun, now if the bartender is so uninterested in serving the people he is catering to, why is he there? Oh that’s right. 3 of them. All texting. 6-Bar tabs. As the designated driver I wasn’t planning to have more than maybe a drink or two and a redbull. Maybe a bottle of water. But then the minimum to use a card is $ 30. I know keeping tabs is annoying. But if the place is virtually empty. Why can’t you just run my card. It’s not going to take you more than a minute. It’s not like you got a lot of people waiting to be served. 7-Drinks– I go to the atm(located outside in the corner store) come back and ask for a redbull and a jack and coke. As it turns out they don’t have redbulls in cans. They only serve redbull from the bar gun. at this point I just want my drinks. He serves me ice with a splash of redbull. Same goes for the jack and coke. A good bartender can count the alcohol in drinks to a 2oz while pouring the juice. This dude served 1oz jack, and coke. Charges me $ 14 which is the standard price for the standard drinks that I ordered. Only thing is that they were far from standard. 8-The Smell– The whole place smells repug! It’s like they mopped the floor with a dirty mop that is been wet in a corner for a week.(Rotten eggs) 9-the tiles in the bathroom are falling apart, and they don’t have any other beer other than corona. A drummer in the middle of the dancefloor… Idk what to make of that. In conclusion, I won’t be coming back to this establishment again, then they wonder why we are running out of gay places to go to… It’s really a shame we have to settle for places like this to just have a little bit of fun.

I just don’t get why a place would charge a $ 10 cover for a bar that has already got expensive drinks? Is someone going to carry me to the bar order me a drink and hold it for me until it’s done? I do understand a weekend cover charge but not during the week. Nice club but not $ 10 school night nice.

DOYOUENJOY: + Getting patted down at the entrance like a common criminal? + Getting yelled at to pay a $ 10 cover charge? + Hanging out in half-empty gay bars full of sour faces and bad attitudes? Then Castro is for you. What a joke. My group of 4 walked out rather than pay the $ 10 cover, and took our money to Suite at 109/Amsterdam. They had no cover, a fun crowd, and an amazing drag show that kept us laughing, singing and dancing until the wee hours of the morning. Castro, bye girl bye. You need to get over yourself.

So as I was bar hopping on Dyckman, I bumped into this very interesting place. The music was not enjoyable, it was extremely hot as well. People were having fun and it seemed as though they were just having a good time. Might need to come again on a different night to really feel it out.

They cool but it’s Wednesday and I have arthritis and they took the bar stool ;/really! That’s handi-capped. So now I have to stand for the remainder of the evening. That’s not very good customer service. I like Castro’s but not very handi-capped friendly. …ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhjjj

Cool spot, but I’m really upset these bartenders added on an extra $ 3 tip on an already generous tip. I might go again but if I do, I’ll pay in cash.

Love love love this place but I just got dragged out on my birthday of all days for dancing with my friend, as I was doing nothing to offend anyone I assure you ! As I am a corporate fashion advisor with great professional credentials. I came here to enjoy my birthday with a group of 13 PPl who all paid the ridiculous cover for a bar well out of «the scene«and got embarrassingly dragged out for dancing with my best friend literally not disturbing anyone: the gentleman who dragged me out was bald and had a goatee. I’m still not sure what exactly happened ??? Or what the reasoning was; I think that they might have confused me with someone else. It is absolutely ridiculous that I was escorted out in such fashion, the security guard came up to me and put me in a choke hold ??? I am embarrassed and my birthday is ruined. After long work weeks I just wanted to go somewhere to enjoy myself and I thought it would be a great idea: unfortunately it was not. The customer service at this bar is poor and the staff is quite uneducated. Do not come here !!! I am very disappointed to have to leave this review. I’d advise you not to leave the enjoyment of your special occasions to this business. I am writing this review directly after this incident to show how coherent and unaffected I am. Don’t come here.

Looks like they’re open again. Just watch for any stains on the floor. … and for god sake peddle your snow white elsewhere. (That’s about coke, not race, we love everybody uptown)

I Castro! Went a week ago and really enjoyed the space and the crowd. However today I went and saw that it was closed down! Is it a long term situation? Hope not, because it was such a great addition to nightlife in upper Manhattan

While the lounge is much better then what used to be here, what ever positive you have from the music and bottle specials it lacks from their arrogant staff, bad attitude and disorganization. Treat your people better!

Basing my review on one night; Wen night«Cock Fight.» I really love the new interior and the vibe was pretty laid back with a hilarious drag queen introducing the boys. The crowd kind of represents the hood but is no Castro. Diversity in music choices are needed, although the DJ was able to do some interesting stuff with limited material. It will not kill the Latina boys and girls to change the beat around. The way people did not make eye contact reminded me of the LA Eagle. No I do not want a private dance Mr Stripper but thanks for asking. The comment: «Good bye Daddy,» from 2 cha cha queens as I exited did not warrant a response at the time. I was around in the 80s where music and people were real and judgement like that did not exist. Get over your tacky selves. No Daddy is not interested and may not come back with out a group of friends. I am curious what other nights are like.

Decided to visit this place for a birthday event and wow!!! It was amazing! The music was great! They played a little bit of everything. They had really attractive male dancers, which I absolutely enjoyed watching. The employees treated me and my friends with respect and were attentive of our table. Also the drinks were fair price, and the vibe was great! People were just focus on having fun, not drama. Definitely recommend this place if you want to have fun!

Visited this space last night with my bestie since our haunt in Washington Heights, NoParking Bar just closed. The area was so Latino… And I love that! Beautiful papi chulos everywhere(for those of you who don’t know what that means… It’s a total good thing). It turned out that all of my fave bartenders from our former spot were here! Yay! I love those guys… Anyway, besides that the spot was lovely, classy, modern and packed with cutie pies! The music was great and the drinks even better! Another great point… If your wasted by the time you leave there are definitely lots of places to go and eat at afterwards! Will def be returning!

This review is only for Wednesday nights @ Castro. On top of the place being a beautiful addition to the neighborhood, CJ brought a great party to the area and our community on a Wednesday night. Women need a place to go to that’s not necessarily too local but also, not downtown. Castro Bar is perfect. It’s clean, understandably it’s new, but well kept. Good selection of liquor although I think that can eventually be expanded on. The bottle prices are very reasonable. No complaints so far. Looking forward to many Spring & Summer Wednesday nights @ Castro with CJ& co.
