I have a pretty good idea of what Mexican food is supposed to be, having been to holes in the wall in Baja and the mainland, and this is without question the best I have had in Manhattan. Also lived in L. A I am a native New Yorker, and have tried many places. It is family run-always key. Carnitas are amazing! They have great tequila, my go to place. Have not had a bad dish yet. Try it. Not run of the mill.

Casa Mexicana provided a night of deliciousness .I loved my chicken lime(pollo Guerrero) although my rice and beans lacked in flavor. My tres leches dessert was so good. In fact, I used to always say crème brûlée was my favorite dessert, but now I think tres leches cake just became my favorite. Tres leches cake is three milk sponge cake with: evaporated milk, condensed milk, and heavy cream. The restaurant itself is cute nothing too fancy just your average Mexican joint. Here’s where I knock some points off. I came here on a Saturday night and it was very packed. Only problem was that there was literally one waiter managing every table for the whole restaurant. This poor guy was truly overwhelmed and it was very transparent. He barely came to our table. Our waiter was very nice though. But getting our dessert and the bill took like five years to get. Why on earth would a restaurant have one waiter on a Saturday night is beyond me!

A pretty decent place for mexican food. I wouldn’t say I was blown away by the meal but it definitely was good. I had chicken fajitas. The chicken was a bit thick but was seasoned well with a delicious sauce, some veggies, onions, and a side of mexican crema. The dish also came with rice and beans but they weren’t tasty at all! They offer many mexican desserts including my personal fav; tres leche cake. Their tres leche was on point!

The food was amazing. It was our first time and we received great service from our waiter. The table side guacamole was delicious and seasoned well. It was creamy, fresh, and paired well with the salsa & chips. The fajitas are a great selection. It comes out sizzling and has a spicy kick. Overall, a great place for Mexican food!

Low and behold, another offspring of Mama Mexico. This time, the settlement is on Amsterdam. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed MM during it’s peak and there have been numerous offspring that have done well. CM, was okay for me. We asked to be seated outside on purpose because we recognized some of the staff inside and wanted to have an unobstructed experience. Fail. The service was nice, but may be because one of the staff members recognized some from our party. He started sending some food and drinks our way. We had an array of dishes and drinks which were okay, but not spectacular.(I must sound like a total spoiled, ungrateful brat now.) For Morningside Heights, this place will become a gem. There are only a handful of places near by that serves up to this caliber. For NYC overall, this place is mediocre.(I actually think that the food got all three of us a little sick.) Just my honest two cents.

My girlfriend and I were driving in uptown Manhattan when we stubbled upon Casa Mexicana. Very familiar with authentic Mexican food, we began with the Pozole Guerrero(Homini Corn soup with chicken), the Chicken Tamales, and the fresh made Guacamole. So far the appetizers were very tasty and the presentation was impeccable. The homemade Sangria and mojito was out of this world. The main dishes were Carnitas estilo Michoacan and the Cochinita Pibil you just have to get here and try them yourselves, these dishes are to die for. The Fondue Mexicano is a fusion of Michoacan melted cheese, Chorizo, green peppers and onions so delicious is adictive. This place is owned and operated by an authentic Mexican Family, thank God Donald Trump will never be welcomed here. I really felt at home, this restaurant is on a class of its own!

Had delicious dinner here last weekend. Big portions of good food at reasonable prices. Had guacamole, skirt steak«tampiquena» and cochinita pibil(stewed pork dish). Two main courses were delicious – steak was big, tender and delicious. Cochinita pibil tender and covered with rich, complex spicy sauce. We took half the cochinita home(big portion) and had it for dinner 2 days later – it tasted even better. Tableside guacamole was ok, nothing special. Probably its the wrong season for avocado, but tasted a little bland and watery. In New York this dish always tastes amazing at Rosa Mexicano, and no other restaurant can match it, for some reason. Guacamole aside I’ll definitely come back, especially if I’m in the mood for a steak.

Food is good. Service is chronically slow. I think they would get more business if they could improve service.

Great food and service. Easily the best Mexican food in the neighborhood. Fresh ingredients. Amazing nachos with beans, cheese and chicken. Guacamole made at the table, so good. Mango salad with chile sauce and grilled chicken was amazing. We almost went to Noche Mexicana because Casa looked empty. Flipped a coin and ended up here. Will be back. Spanish rock kind of a downside for me, but tolerable considering the delicious, fresh food.

I’ve searched high and low for a Mexican style shrimp cocktail(coctel de camarones) around NewYorkCity. It has been a struggle!.. such a common dish in Mexico, yet no one offers it here. I randomly stumbled across Casa Mexicana while I was walking to 104th and decided to check out the menu. *Coctel de Camarones* «Ok, ok let me see what this is about», I thought while expecting to be brought out a ceviche or American style shrimp cocktail, like usual. However, Eric the bartender assured me that the Family owned restaurant was no joke. The chef came out for fresh ingredients, and delivered a 6star coctel! I’m not kidding, by far one of the best I have ever had! The ambiance, and personal touch from Eric and the chef were enough to keep me coming back. AND there are real coctels there! :) I am a very happy camper, and will absolutely be frequenting Casa Mexicana!

This was my first time coming here and I would definitely come back next time Im in the area! Why? The service was great and didn’t take long for any of the appetizers or entrees to come out. We ordered the guacamole and they made it right in front of us which was awesome. Also, there was a mariachi guy who came to our table first and sang«Pretty Woman». I was not expecting him to sing that considering it was a Mexican restaurant, but he did add some«Holy Guacamole» and«Ayee Chihuahua» in there! :) He made the experience more enjoyable. The food was excellent too. We had guacamole, Mexican fondue, and a skirt steak. The skirt steak I had for my entrée was SO tender and had a lot of flavor. I almost forgot to talk about their homemade sangria! Sangria is my all time favorite alcoholic beverage and I must say, Casa Mexicana had one of the best tasting sangrias I have ever had. I can see why a pitcher of it was $ 35. I only got a couple of glasses, but next time I go, I will definitely get the pitcher because it was so worth it. All in all, this place had great service, fun entertainment, excellent food and delicious drinks. I would definitely recommend this place!

The food was okay but not as flavorful as I would have wanted it. I wish I tried the guac because they have someone come out and make it for you in front of you which looked really cool. Also, happy hour ends at 7!!! So try to get in before then

I would say 3.5 stars. The place is very bright and lively, but the service was pretty meh even though the restaurant was only half, or less, full. Ordered the enchiladas de casa, I think that’s what it was called. It’s the one with steak, chicken, and shrimp. It was all very delicious and it was a pretty good dish overall! Also, I have a pretty low spicy tolerance and it wasn’t that spicy! The couple next to me ordered guacamole and they actually make it right next to you, which is pretty cool. I would say 4 stars for food but 3 star rating because of the service.

A hidden gem on the upper west side. I came with my roommate on an early spring night in the mood to celebrate warm weather. The happy hour is 5 $ margaritas till 7. The bartender was great and attentive, we had delicious chips and a ton of salsa, when the chips ran out he refilled us right away. When the drinks got low, he began to make the next round. They have floor to ceiling windows that they remove on nice days! Such an amazing happy hour spot. Small, quiet and delicious!

The chips and salsa were perfectly spicy and flavorful. The fajitas had lots of veggies. Nice ambience, great service. I was there as they are closing and they didn’t rush me out. I’ll be back.

Awesome Mexican restaurant in the UWS — you walk into a large red room, with a small bar on the left, and you immediately get a comfortable, cozy vibe. Being in the UWS, the restaurant had a mix of families, couples, and younger people. They’re relatively new, I think open until September, but we were eager to try this place because of all the other great reviews. One thing to note is that they are definitely understaffed, or they just happened to be on Friday night when we were there. The owner/manager/waiter was running around and we could tell he was the only one that was greeting people, seating them, and taking orders. For appetizer, we ordered the guac and it was solid. They make it right in front of your table so that’s always cool when they do that. They have a solid menu full of all sorts of traditional and unique mexican dishes(including many vegetarian options) My friends ordered the veggie enchiladas and wild mushroom fajitas, and they thoroughly enjoyed both. I got the veggie chimichangas and they were pretty good. The crispy tortilla was thick and I put a lot of hot sauce on it. Their rice and beans are delicious! Overall, great food and the waiter/owner/manager was extremely nice. We also had a pitcher of their mango margarita on the rocks and it was super strong! Great spot and definitely worth checking out if you’re in the UWS.

I have been spoiled by my mexican family and rarely do i enjoy going to a mexican restaurant. However, Casa Mexicana changed me. They succeed at maintaining the authenticity of the meals. I felt that i was back in Mexico. Delicious entrees, appetizers and desserts. Great selection of tequila and amazing service. A must for any tourist or native newyorker. Neighboring restaurants watch out.
