90s night here was so fun! Live music is amazing. The drinks are overpriced and the crowd is so-so.

I have a strong dislike for cover bands, but will say that the bayside tigers put up a pretty good performance, and the bartenders here are very nice. Aside from that… totally not my crowd. I felt like I was on the scene of Jersey shore but still in Manhattan, and the fist-pumping was hilarious. The scene here makes you desperately need a good martini, but all you’ll find is cosmos and beer. I think that about sums it up.

Loved this place first time there this wknd for 90s night. The bayside tigers were an amazing band. Great place to rock out. Crowd was a tad bit roudy but only bc how great the band was. After the live music many people left so less crowded. Dj was soso the transitions could have been better but cant wait to go back!!!

Came here for the 80’s concert with Jessie’s Girl on the last night of my trip here. Constantine was in the house and the concert was very entertaining and got most of us singing/dancing or both. They do two shows every Saturday, the 8pm and the 10pm show. The 10pm is show is $ 18, half of the 8pm show advance purchase price. Why so drastic? No idea… but considering that all I needed to do to save $ 18 on my admission is wait 2 hours? No problem here… In terms of the performance, I really enjoyed all four singers of the band, with Jenna being the welcome female voice among the males. Hearing Erasure’s «A Little Respect» was a bit of a surprise since I didn’t know that the song had enough popularity to be played during a 80’s revival concert. Apparently it does. And of course, just like in Constantine’s Rock of Ages shows, he ended the night with«Don’t Stop Believin’». I mean, that’s the encore/finale song of all encore/finale songs. Anything else just won’t do! The concert goes until 12:30 which then the room becomes a dance club like atmosphere. Drink prices were decent for nightclub standards and it was never too crowded or raucous in the standing room only floor. Just the occasional drunk woman dancing way too out of control. I’m hoping Jessie’s Girl will still be here the next time I come back to visit, irregardless if Constantine is still there. 80’s music is the best and although the Canal Room has a 90’s tribute band show, I think I’d rather see the 80’s show again.

Dress up 80s when you go here. Not everyone does but its so much more fun dancing to the great 80s music in leg warmers, off the shoulder sweatshirt & neon. It was 80s night, two great cover bands kept everyone dancing. However this place was SO crowded. Thank god I was with a group of people I didn’t mind sweatily dancing next to. Getting to the bathroom took ninja like moves. Once there they were nice, like every other review says. Drinks were a little expensive but thats to be expected. The $ 22 cover charge was obviously ridiculous, but at least we knew ahead of time. Would come back, in FLATS, don’t wear your heels ladies. & best of luck getting a cab afterwards, you might as well walk, which we did.

I went here to see the Bayside Tigers because Screech was hosting. I was not sure what to expect other than Screech. The bar is long and there was a huge line but we were able to get our drinks and enjoy the in-house DJ that was playing 90’s tunes. The band is as good as I have seen for a cover band. 5 stars. There was a lot of dancing but the crowd is young, if you actually were around in the 90’s and in college, you will feel old. Wooderson would feel completely at home here: D There is a VIP section in the back that overlooks the dance floor, Screech hung out there. The drinks were expensive but this NYC on a Friday night. I would recommend pre –gaming somewhere else.

I can’t quite gauge this place. I was here for an event last week that was hosting a party I guess for people of different fields to check out a launch of a music app. Of course it involved free booze. The event was decent. There was no food but a wide range of libations. Various bottles of beer including stella and magic hat so not just your bud or miller. Wine, vodka cocktails, and champagne also were what caught my eye. As far as the venue for the event, it was pretty spacious for that amount of people casually talking or dancing to the dj and live music. I like the disco balls and sleek modern art. There’s also an upstairs lounge area for vip which we tried and failed in getting into. But I like when special people are segregated and catered on. I think they do 80s and 90s dance nights here too. But I’m not into that stuff and saving it for the younglings.

90’s Night was a kick-ass eardrum exploding(but not too exploding) dance and drink fest that I was quite pleased with. Key points: — Any attempt to squire a limo from 4 blocks away for you plus nine will be thwarted by at the driver’s attempt to charge an insane amount of money for mere minutes of limo status. — Get a ticket beforehand, or else wait in line with everyone else outside and pay a few bucks more. It will be likely that all of the NYC Smokey McSmokertons will be out there puffing to their heart’s content before heading in. — Coat check is $ 3. I find that agreeable. $ 3 per item. I find that less agreeable. No hanger sharing? Fiiiiiiiiine. — Oh look, the bar! $ 18 for a rum and pineapple and a bud light bottle? Yeah, that sounds right for NY. Plan on dropping $$$ on booze or simply have your fill prior to arriving. — The bathrooms — a myriad of rooms next to rooms with additional staff pointing you in the right direction. For as large as that room is, the bathrooms are the size of half-sized broom closets. Plan to go it alone. — The stage… close. Speakers — loud but not deafening. Dance space — adequate. They don’t try and pack the place silly, so you do have a little bit of wiggle room to shake and dance and shake and dance and shake and dance and Macarena. And I return to 90’s night — Saved By The Bell on TV, a bunch of songs I haven’t listened to in years(but somehow remember the lyrics of), and an overall great time with friends. It’s nice to see a place that does a live show so well in a comparatively smaller space. Had a blast, and for the money, there is no compare(so far). Best of all, when you stumble out at all hours, there is a cheap pizza place right across the street that may very literally thrive on your business. So do everyone a favor and treat yourself to a slice on the way out like I very much forgot to do.

i always have such a great time here for 90s night. what can i say, i know the words to every song, i love the saved by the bell theme with the Bayside Tigers band, and they have blacklights so the room gloooooows. drinks are pricey so i would suggest doing a little predrinking(true 90s style). also the line can be long to get in so come a little early, the band starts at midnight. it’s super crowded but super fun.

I saw Rihanna perform here, striking bad luck on all of us as she of opened her umbrella inside. Maybe it wasn’t raining and wasn’t really Rihanna but the girl and her band were solid. The location is a bit out there but the crowd not bad and performance even better. Tear up their dance floor or tear up your shirt, depends on who’s partying there that night.

No. I am not waiting online for your Halloweens 80s throwback party. No I don’t want bottle service. No, that long line is not moving quickly. Ok, I’m older, so I don’t want to go elbow to elbow to listen to really loud music. and pay $ 25 bucks? Nah.

This place is a class act. The whole staff is courteous, professional and attended to the details of putting on great shows weekend after weekend. The tribute bands are fantastic, some of the best in New York and the weekly shows are top-notch. The room is beautiful and the sound system is again, one of the best in the city.

This place reminded me of college. The crowd was a bit young(but then again, so am I) and there was an extremely drunk boy(he was too scrawny and young to be called a man) dragging an extremely drunk girl around the dance floor making out. Sloppy. There’s nothing wrong with a bit of drunk club making-out, but let’s be honest, it’s gross to witness. It was definitely one of the sloppiest make-out sessions I’ve seen in years. But onto more relevant things: The 90s Band on Friday Night was AWESOME. They may not be THE most musically talented, but they have great stage presence, energy, and song selection. I’m a fan. Apparently they play every Friday night, so check them out! Other reviews on here say that the Canal Room gets very crowded, but when we showed up at 11:30pm on a Friday, there was no line at the door and the club was comfortably filled. Certainly not crowded, but not awkwardly empty. We paid $ 12 at the door. Apparently pre-purchased tickets are slightly more.

Came here for a charity event. The sound was really good but the space gets full really quickly. The bar is to the left when you walk into the main space and it makes it difficult to walk further into the room. I can’t say anything about the cost of the drinks since it was open bar. I had a great time here and i’m glad that they sold out of tickets for the charity but there should have been at least 50 less people in the place.

A few months ago, I spent a night at the Canal Room to see the Bayside Tigers. Now, 90s music is my Jam(as in, Pump Up The), and I will willingly make the trek to Tribeca to spend a night rocking out to it exclusively. When we walked in, my first thought was, «Canal Room, You Were Meant For Me(by Jewel).» There was a great DJ playing a lot of 90s music before and after the live performance, which I thought was a nice way to keep the vibe going. I was actually worried they would play«normal» music before the 90-minute show, but I was happily surprised. It was fairly easy to get drinks from the bar both before and during the performance. I kinda loved the bathrooms downstairs. There were several single-room bathrooms, and only a short wait with an attendant managing the fast-moving line. The bathrooms themselves were clean and well kept — I didn’t smell any Teen Spirit at all. Efficient and clean — if I imagine an ideal club bathroom experience, I Want It That Way(Backstreet Boys … getting the hang of this yet?). During the show, the crowd was totally into it(like, whatever, for sure). It was a full room, but it never felt overcrowded or cramped. It was a good, happy crowd with great energy. We left when the show was over; however, the DJ started playing more 90s tunes & I Wish(by Skee-Lo) we stayed longer. I’m pretty sure I heard MC Hammer as we walked out … I even thought I heard a voice in my head saying Please Don’t Go(by KWS). To sum it up, my night at the Canal Room was The Bomb(by The Bucketheads)! And … I Could Not Ask For More(by Edwin McCain). Canal Room, I Want. You. Back.

We went for the Rubix Cube 80s night, so maybe it isn’t fair to rate the whole place off of one night. But, but, but… the security weren’t very personable at all and the bartenders were serving warm drinks. I blame them for puking the next day… The club was fairly full, but was kinda a drag. Rubix Cube felt more like a bunch of crappy karaōke freaks singing 80s music. The drunk crowd watched in muted wonder, though barely swaying to the tunes, making this not the most dance-friendly venue that night. I tried to improve the night by asking them to pull my friend on stage after seeing them do it for a few others, but they hastily replied, «Nope, we already did that.» Well, thank you for letting me know it was an option by doing it once and never again. So, aside from warn drinks, blech crowd and band and a cover that actually costs more if you order your ticket in advance… what else should I say? Oh, don’t go. Go over to Naked Lunch instead and pay no cover with colder drinks. The only difference is its small, has better music, and is full of some cheesy dudes.

Made the trek across the Hudson to see Trace Bundy and Sungha Jung perform their amazing guitar skills. Words can’t describe their supernatural talent. Awesome. This venue is easy to get to and has decent acoustics. The main problem I had with this place was the bar area. It is close to the stage and the people getting drinks can’t keep quiet. As Trace and Sungha were doing their thing, these idiots by the bar spoke so loud to each other so as to drown out part of the live performance. As Trace or Sungha played louder, these idiots only spoke louder. The bartenders should have told them to keep it down. But they did nothing. I guess a decent tip is more important than the performance of world class guitar players. What a bunch of drunk idiots– both the bartenders and the bar patrons. Hopefully when Trace and Sungha swing by NY again, they will choose another venue. One that does not serve alcohol.

I came here for The Sons & Heirs/Green Shirt show. Aside from the ridiculously priced drinks here in the Canal Room, this place is alright. It’s very clean and there’s no line for the restroom! The bar looks nice but their beer selection is alittle horrendous in my opinion. Mostly beer pong beer(Bud, Coors, Miller, and more junk) all for $ 7 a bottle. The crowd here wasn’t very pleasing. Bunch of bummy hipsters standing around like idiots. The show was great as usual. The Sons & Heirs finally played one of my personal favorite Smiths songs«Girlfriend in a Coma». Green Shirt was a awesome tribute band to Elvis Costello. The music was excellent, the crowd and bar… BOOO! Will I come back to the Canal Room? Probably not unless there’s a band that I really like that is performing there. The crowd here is just very flat, maybe because no one is drinking enough due to ball park beer prices… They’re charging beverages as if they’re running a nice night club or somethin. Prices here gotta change.

Saturday nights at the Canal Room are, like, totally, awesome! This is entirely because Rubix Kube( ) takes the stage almost every Saturday from 11p — 2a with their brilliant renditions of all your favorite 80’s tunes complete with decade-appropriate attire. Heed everyone’s advice(unlike me) and get there pre-11. Based on an enthusiastic endorsement from our most trusted international party guru, I patiently waited approximately 1.5 hours until I managed to enter(be sure to bring refreshment with the requisite paper bag if you fear being sober). But it was definitely worth it! As I walked in, the lead singer began to belt out the testosterone-rich lyrics of the J. Geils Band’s Centerfold and we didn’t stop dancing until the end of the ever-essential, perennial favorite, Don’t Stop Believing encore. There was neon, there were sequins, side pony-tails, pop-rocks and glow-sticks aplenty. Drinks seemed to be generously poured, bathrooms were cleaner than average, bouncers were easily angered. Nothing else matters. Just trust me and make the Canal Room your next Saturday night destination!
