Pass this place by and go to 6th Street if you want really good Indian food. Truly mediocre. I had the Biryani and almost broke my tooth on a pit. Not once but twice. My wife had the Chana Saag, also just fair. There is a reason why this place was empty. Should have taken that as a sign.

Very nice place, went for the $ 15 lunch buffet which was pretty good, had a variety of items. Buffet was self service, so no complains, the waiter was very nice though.

Been coming to this place on a regular basis these past 12 months. The bar area is pretty large and the $ 5 beers and and wines are a much better deal than the other local establishments charging $ 7 – 9 beers and more for wines. They recently instituted a bar menu with all items at $ 5 which is reminiscent of the British gastro bars(curry and a pint) where you can have pint and some food without spending a fortune – try doing that at The District across the street! Thus, it a good place to have a beer and some light Indian appetizers. I had 4 bottles of beer(Fullers – not Bud Lights) and 2 appetizers and the whole thing came to $ 30! Also very good is the music which is a mixture of alternative and older British tunes. The manager, Simon, makes it a point to say hello and thanks you for your business, which is a rarity for bar/restaurants on the Upper East Side. Always good to see a manager show some enthusiasm for his business. This place is a welcome solution to the dearth of good pubs since the demise of Kinsales and Fetch. Though some may be hesitant to venture into an Indian restaurant to sit at it’s bar, this place seems to welcome it and has the long, long bar and decent beer selection to prove it. Some places take time to find their niche and they seem to be be definitely trying thus deserve a lot of credit. Great place to have beers and food at the bar without having your ears blown out by «cheap» music and without the pretentiousness of other bars in the neighborhood – not a swill joint but not an intimidating place. I’ll still continue to go there. Yay!

NO lunch Buffett. This place uses deceptive advertising. Despite the fact that the sign outside of their restaurant and on their website both say they have a lunch buffet, THEYDONOTHAVELUNCHBUFFET.

They were closed for a few days(tax issue) but are open now! We do the lunch buffet there about once a month. The variety is good; they often change some of the vegetable dishes. There are 3 types of chicken, tandoori, curry and«another one». Some of the dishes are spicy(which is a good thing)…but they are generous with water refills. The service is excellent especially being that it’s a buffet.

Arrived here from the midtown location to try the Phall that wasn’t available at the midtown location. We were initially told they were out as well. At this point I was pretty pissed as this was the only reason we came here. Then the manager showed up and said that they weren’t out. So right off we were a little put off. But the dinner showed up and it was actually really good. They changed the Phall from how it used to be and it’s so much better, it’s not bitter any more, and they left out the cilantro like I asked them to. Despite the rocky start to the endeavor the dinner was actually a success for this portion. However they were out of goat for the wifes dish so she had to settle for something else. I would go back here.

Great ambiance, food is spiced well however the quality of the meat can improve. Our lamb was over cooked and chewy. Drinks are a little overpriced but the bartender is great and will hook u up if your drinking a lot and are nice to him.

Went when the place first opened . Food was fantastic then and service was great and an atmosphere of fun, history of the hottest curries explained and stories told by the server made the dining experience wonderful. Went back expecting the same, alas, the service was so banal, and the people working there looked liked they secretly wanted to at home. There was no attempt to explain the special curries or dishes, and the servers just glided around like zombies. What a pity! Went again and despite the place having only a few tables, it was more of the same dull experience. If I owned the place, I would instruct the servers and hosts to try and make the menu and dishes sound fun and a challenge. I’m not sure if I will return.

We have ordered from BL many times; I also used to order from the East Village location as a special treat occassionally, as it was more costly than the other Indian delivery options in the neighborhood, but higher quality. The same is true of this uptown location. Something changed a while back at this uptown location – menu items were removed and quality went down. Even though I continued to order occasionally, tonight will be the last night as the food that arrived tonight is barely edible. I ate most of my lamb samosa(to my better judgment), because I was hungry(waiting a ½ hour past the estimated delivery time can do that…). After a certain point I had to stop because it just wasn’t working, it was breaking in my hand and the over-saltiness of the meat was hurting my stomach. $ 10 for lamb samosas(which I pay because I can’t find lamb samosas anywhere else), and they RUIN them by putting them over sauce and lettuce greens, which turns the crispy outside to doughy mush. The samosas were so mushy they were falling apart, and pieces of hot, wilted, sauce-covered lettuce were sticking to the samosa. I had to throw in the towel. I took a picture of the samosa here. I also ordered the mulligatwany soup, and it actually tasted like feet, so I won’t be eating that. I had my husband take a sip, and he confirmed it was disgusting. They seem to use a frozen vegetable medley in this soup which is also just bad. I can’t go through this again(bad food, wasted time, wasted money), and I won’t be ordering anymore. I’m sorry, Brick Lane but this is officially goodbye.

Simple, great, and to the point. If you’re looking for Indian food in the upper east side this is your place. Not only is the restaurant clean and quaint they have a nice wooden bar. The staff was friendly and helpful. As soon as you sit down they bring you bread and a green(cilantro based) and a dark brown/red(sweet) sauce. They have a wine list but when we asked they were out of most of the wines only having a few. For dinner we got lamb vindaloo and chicken bhuna. Both dishes were good and you could taste some of the classic flavors in each. My favorite was the chicken bhuna. For my preference I thought the vindaloo sauced was lacking a bit of flavor and heat. If you prefer your Indian food spicy ask them for more heat. The chicken bhuna was supposed to be a spicy dish but it was mild at best. We also had their naan which was traditionally cooked. I would definitely come back here and check them out for happy hour or their lunch buffet.

Came here for dinner with some friends on a Wednesday night. I eat a lot of Indian food so I like to think I am quite familiar with the cuisine. We each ordered dishes but ended up sharing them in the middle with a few orders of naan: Chicken Makhani(butter chicken in a tikka masala sauce), Chicken Madras, and Chicken Korma. I found the chicken makhani to be a little, and the sauce was thin. I enjoyed the flavor of my Chicken Madras, but I didn’t think it was anywhere near spicy enough(the hot sauce they gave me was a little too vinegary for my taste). The Chicken Korma was very sweet, and wasn’t as flavorful in my opinion. The entrees appear small, but I ended up taking half of mine home. After tax and tip, the bill came to about $ 30 per person, which is a little steep for the quality. I’ll keep searching for some good Indian food on the UES. We got home a little late from Labor Day and were craving Italian. When we walked to Bar Roma and found it closed, we started just walking north to see what we could find. Brick Lane looked clean and British Pub-esque, but had an Indian menu. While completely different than what we first set out for, the food was pretty good. I mean I like Indian food, so when it is done decently well I am almost always a fan. What l also liked was that it was delivered in a laid-back pub atmosphere. Definitely worth the trip for a beer and some good Indian food.

This review is long overdue. Brick Lane on the Upper East Side consistently has high quality food. The lunch buffet is creative and delicious. They offer a large variety, and it’s one of the best meals for price and quantity and quality. The dinner has been wonderful. The gigantic and beautiful bar offers great options. They also have happy hour pricing. We held a large party at this restaurant a few months ago, and we were extremely pleased with the service. The manager, Gaurang, is exceptional. He has a great demeanor and assisted with planning and arrangements. The food was excellent with many choices for guests. You have the traditional Indian dishes as well as tasty unique preparations. Everything is impeccable. We would not hesitate to host another event at this restaurant or dine at Brick Lane Curry House on the Upper East Side!

3 stars for food, none for service. I walked into the restaurant for buffet. Food tasted good but the variety was below average. The service was below average. Tandoori chicken thumbs up! The ambience is nice– full bar with romantic aura. Overall, I expect more for the price!
