The coffee was really good. So it was nice to stop and have a coffee. My wife didn’t want to stay when she came in and they were blasting heavy metal. Like death metal. Haha. I liked it. The barista wasn’t really helpful as he drank his beer and made coffee. But the coffee was good.

Rude service! the waiter who works here doesn’t have any idea how to properly treat customers — after asking for an extra hot coffee, he instead gave me one that was lukewarm, and only wanted to heat it up in this one special occasion ‘because usually they never do so’. avoid at all costs.

Small spot, friendly barista, and amazing espresso. This is a must visit shop if you’re in NYC

The best coffee shop for tourists! They were so friendly to everyone that came in and the coffee so amazingly average it blew my mind. If you are a tourist, you HAVE to check this place out. Locals will realize they can get a better coffee literally anywhere, but that doesn’t mean they should go anywhere else! If you’re a tourist you HAVE to check this place out and tell everyone from out of town to check it out!!!

This used to be my cubby of comfort on the UWS. Grab a nice cup of coffee ask about the latest inventory of beans with the knowledgeable staff. Which is why it has 2 stars instead of 1. As of lately the product and staff have been a disappointment. I wanted to believe these setbacks of bad coffee and lethargic baristas were fleeting, unfortunately they have proven to be consistent. 1) I’ve stopped by a few times at 7:30 am(half hour after listed opening) to find the door closed and lights out. On one occasion the UPS delivery person gave up on them too and just stacked all the boxes of inventory against the front door with no one in sight. Imagining a $ 24 bag of freshly roasted Kenyan beans being carried away by a rat was the only thing giving me solace for a denied cup of joe. 2) I’ve stopped by at 6:30pm(half hour before listed closing) to either find it already closed or with the door barricaded by their chalkboard sign. Today I swung by at said time and found a gal already sweeping up with front lights off. I asked if I could just buy some beans real fast. Nope already closed out she said(6:31pm). I said thanks and left. But in my heart I meant I hate your bastard guts. 3) Got an espresso last weekend that was served with flat tap water. Why even bother with the gesture if it’s not the sparkling stuff. That might sound pretentious, but that’s the standard pairing like shoes and socks or peanut butter and jelly. I’d rather get a plain peanut butter sandwich than a peanut butter and mayonnaise sandwich. My work days begin and end without the sun so when I make an effort to get to this shop and find it closed well within the listed hours I get pissed off enough to write my first bad review in a very long time. I’ll miss their fantastic selection of beans(heart, five elephants, madcap etc), but those can be ordered online directly from the roasters and the extra $ 5 shipping is a price I’d rather pay than to deal with the constant heart breaks this place pours. Or rather doesn’t pour because it’s inexplicably closed.

Cute(really tiny) coffee shop that we stopped by just because I needed more caffeine. I got a vanilla latte to stay, even though there are really only about 5 seats total against a little bar. The staff didn’t really pay attention to us at all and just had a conversation with each other very loudly the whole time we were ordering, waiting, and drinking our drinks. Which is fine and normal in NYC, but just noting that the staff isn’t exactly superb. Regardless of how small it was, there were still outlets, so we charged up our phones, enjoyed our lattes, and left pretty happy. Wouldn’t go out of my way to come here again, but it was nice.

Looking for a decent coffee and baristas who know their craft? Boxkite is better than anything else on the UWS and so close to tourist landmarks on W72nd St and Central Park. As an Australian who has lived in NYC for 12 years, I can recommend both the coffee, the friendly staff and their excellent service. Pay attention or you will walk right past it!

Upper West Side is a wasteland, when it comes to quality coffee and espresso. Lots of low to medium level places like La Pain, Joe, Aroma, and Darth Starbucks. On the higher end there’s Rex down on 56th and Irving Farms up on 79th. Both are very good, but not«special.» So was awesome to find Boxkite Coffee on 72nd this morning. Great tiny hole in the wall spot. Lots of care given here to quality brew. Definitely the go-to spot on the UWS.

Amazing coffee! I’m a Seattlelite so somewhat a coffee snob and this was the only place in the city that I think is good enough. Also, NOBODY has syrups anywhere so if you’re used to vanilla you must come here! There’s is amazing!

Service at this spot was pretty crap but the two biggest issues were: death metal blasting over the stereo and a service guy standing on the bench I really don’t want pavement with my coffee. Had to laugh also at their extra charge of $ 1 for using the EK grinder as it was«more labour intensive», my wife told the guy, I have an EK at home and it’s actually not. We were psyched to check this place out but it was a bust, coffee itself was average, we had a madcap cappuccino and a madcap batch brew and the barista spilled the cap so my cup was dirty and my saucer filled with coffee, so every lift of the cup was a potential messed shirt. Overall the experience sucked to be honest, getting blasted by death metal while my wife and I tried to discuss our afternoon plans without getting cappuccino splashes all over us, not a great coffee break.

This was a great little place with drinks served quickly and just enough seating to enjoy your espresso and use your phone. I ordered an espresso macchiato and it was prepared well and easy to drink. The music was annoying but there was only one guy working so it’s his choice and it’s not exactly a location where customers would spend their whole day anyway.

This tiny little coffee shop is tucked away and easy to miss. Luckily a friend brought me here and I’m glad they did. They coffee is stellar, but you do have to navigate the tiny narrow store to reach caffeine bliss. The prices are basically the same as any similar coffee shop. I don’t live close enough that I would go out of my way, but if this area, I’d drop in rather than going elsewhere.

The wait for the coffee is simply too long. There wasn’t a long line but we waited for around 15 minutes for our latte. Turns out they forgot about our order. Its annoying because the barista was talking to a guest the entire time…

Uh, ok.

Location: located on 72nd street, This place is bit too small to be noticed. I believed that I right passed here without noticed for a million times. Although they are small, they put some arts on their walls making me wanna stay there for a little it long instead of leaving. But they have very very limited seats aka they don’t have a table but only a bench. They also have some collections of doughs donuts… Okay, that’s fabulous. Coffee: americano is $$$ because for a small cup, it’s 4 dollars. But it is good. It’s strong and good. It is as good as café grumpy so I really enjoy it. Seriv: nice guy Overall: 4 stars. May try their latte later

Better location than the one downtown!!! Small place with friendly staff. The espresso I got here was actually better and darker than the one I had before. I was satisfied! My girlfriend got a cortado which she thought was great! My mom did as well. She enjoyed this place more than irving! Pretty good! Keep up the good work!

I just wanna help them ! It’s a good cup and it’s not Joe! Also upper west side has a fewer than few third wave coffee options until you reach Harlem. So give this place a try. It’s genuinely good and hip

This place has the coolest owner. Who else would put in USB ports instead of plugs. Coffee is good here too. Just a little chill place to get a cup and hang for a couple minutes off 72nd street. There aren’t any table to work, just a standing counter. Then again, this place is tiny, just like a classic UWS studio. But like a UWS studio, it’s also really cool.

Cute but tiny coffee shop in the UWS. If recommend stopping by for high quality espresso drinks and cold brew or to indulge your sweet tooth with a Dough doughnut! Box Kite has a definite hipster vibe and is very cozy. Service is very friendly, just one barista behind the tiny counter, but surprisingly efficient. I went with a cortado and a coconut glazed doughnut for a Saturday morning breakfast and was happy with my choices. The cortado was smooth with notes of the espresso beans and the cream without much bitterness. The doughnut tasted fresh. I was happy that I was able to grab a stool and sit and enjoy my drink and doughnut without feeling rushed. There was a steady stream of customers coming in and out but I never felt too crowded despite the tiny space. I will definitely be adding this to my UWS routine! And bonus points for taking credit card.

Wooww! This place is a tiny little whole in a wall, literally! But I had an amazing espresso there Great service, extremely knowledgeable Barista with great customer skills! As I was enjoy my espresso I could see and hear Brista cupping coffee! Luckily I will be returning in a couple of days :)) YES! The espresso was high acidity but maintaining, the fruits notes like melon and honeydew, good acidity, not the bad kind that makes your hate you ever took that sip! I’m a fan!

I was definitely excited to try a new coffee place on UWS. Understanding that the space is small, I knew I’d be taking my coffee to go, though they do a good job keeping the few seats up against the wall, allowing the more-common to go order to happen relatively seamlessly. I got a cold brew($ 4), which was ready in a jiffy. It definitely gave me the buzz I was looking for. The overall robustness of the coffee was a little bit less than other cold brews I’ve had in the city, and a little less naturally sweet. I guess that can be good, but I did find myself adding a little bit of sugar. With so many options out there, I was not totally blown away, but this is a great option for the neighborhood and brings lots of coffee wisdom to a central UWS block.
