Good beer here and some very yummy bar food. We got some fries with blue cheese on top. So good!!! I went with a group of 5 and we had fun sitting in the dark and just chatting it up.

Steep steps, water droplets leaking from an air conditioning unit above– and did I mention, steep steps? Rather than entering normally, I felt I was going to tumble down the steps into the place– but I made it safely down. Wow, it’s dark and red and dark and long and narrow and dark. Looked like all the cozy corners were taken, so we opted for the long couch in the middle. It was hot and humid today– which meant it was warm in this place, but luckily we were 2 out of 7 people there. A few interesting things to point out– the bathroom is in the back and its in between where the cook prepares the food and the sink, so um. Yea? Another thing about the bathroom, you step up and um, its a really tight space, be careful you don’t hit the cook on your way out though– he makes your fondue! Enough about the bathroom– what’s up with the broken glass cemetery?(Or named something similar to that). the idea was so out of the ordinary, my friend and I loved it immediately! OK– now onto the food, as much as I had been craving fondue, we decided on ordering the brie cheese wrapped in filo dough w/maple syrup poured over it. It was so good– i guess the combination of filo, brie and maple syrup was a party in my mouth. We paired if off with some glasses of wine and chatted for a few. All in all– its cozy, intimate, and um. dark, but still cozy. The waitress that was there was friendly and I would definitely go there again– or maybe try the one on 7th :]

Eating fondue in a place smaller than even my apartment? AWESOME.

I used to go here about 2 – 3 times a month but haven’t been since March. The atmosphere is great, Tom Waits playing with dim lighting and that velvet couch. They changed the menu though– used to be rosemary potatoes, prosciutto, french bread, etc. and now they serve fries with more fruit and veggies. No more beignets and no more prosciutto which upsets me a little! It’s still pretty good though and I have always had great fondue. Plus you can’t go wrong with half price bottles of wine!

Very small. Nice staff. Good food. A lil pricy though(except if you make it in time for the half-price bottles of wine!) great for wine-ing and dining the ladies ;)

This place is itsy bitsy – wow, it’s small! I went on Valentine’s Day with my hunny and we felt like we were going to break our necks walking down the stairs to this somewhat hard to find spot. The waiter was really nice, though he almost took my eye out with a cork… Yeah-moving on. The food was really good! The V-Day menu was wonderful especially since tihs was my first time it was nice to have a sampling of the appetizers, wine, fondue and coffee. The aged cheddar fondue with cayenne seasonings had a lovely kick and the dark chocolate fondue was to die for! I plan on going back so I guess they made a good impression. Hmm I want fondue now… I guess I know where I’m going for dinner tonight. Have fun dipping and chatting with friends or on a date. Enjoy!

Ok, ok, I get the joke of the waiter in the top-hat and old-timey garb. And I don’t mind mis-matched chairs and the small velvety space. But how can you mess up Blue Cheese fondue? It was like eating cheesy water. With onions. C’mon, guys– stop watering the cheese! The three stars are for the dark chocolate latte«Josaphine» with whipped cream. Sinful and amazing. But you’re a FONDUE joint!

I made it a rule to never hang out in this area, probably after some strange experiences in High School, and the general feeling that the East Village was much cooler. But I was over there last night after a friend’s Fringe show, and lo and behold had a great time. This place actually feels laid-back, and the server-guy is very attentive. Good selection of focaccia and the like. WARNING: the stinky cheese fries really are stinky! I marveled at the tourist trade walking around afterwards. Got an unsatisfactory Mamoun’s Shwarma, etc. I could sort of imagine why MacDougal St. was a real hip place in the 60’s and 70’s.

The Bourgeois Pig is a great place to relax, especially on a Monday or Tuesday night when they have half-priced bottles of good wine. I haven’t been disappointed with any of their wines and the couches are excellent. Good music, good vibe.

oh my velvet crush. you crimson wonder. you $ 9 dollar bottle of red wine whore. you need to up the ante on your fondue(consistency, come on!), but otherwise delightful. very relaxed workers too. when you’re leaving drunk you wonder if walking out of the gypsy caravan(it’s really that small and looong, and you hit the cook in the elbow or bum every time you open the bathroom door), will crush the buzz when you find yourself transported to the wild woods of hungary. but nope, no curse on the bougie pig. just a nice little neighborhood in new york.

We must have arrived at the perfect time on Friday because there was only one other guy in the place and my friend and I got a squishy couch. The waiter/bartender/only guy serving was very sweet– good for recommending wine and which fondue to have. We ended up having 2 types of cheese fondue– one for us and one when my friend’s girlfriend joined. Yummy food. Lots of wine later, the place was packed– it is set up like a little coffee shop, where you have to walk downstairs and the bathroom is through the small kitchen area. People were eating fondue all over the place and chillin to the tunes. Felt like being in the village in 1970something when that area was still cool. Snap snap. Yeah, man.
