I come here for the drinks and they do not disappoint. 5 dollars for a margarita is a steal in the city and after 2 $ 8 grande margaritas, I’m all ready to go out dancing through the night. The food is always an afterthought but it’s pretty decent. It’s definitely an americanized version of Mexican food but it’s tasty and I get a side salad if I want to so can’t complain. Overall, great place for a bit of food and to get some delicious margaritas with friends.

It’s very reasonably priced for the quality. I ordered a quesadilla grande, and it was HUGE; I could split it with another person. Overall, the food is filling and wholesome. I can’t wait to try the rest of their menu! I don’t recommend dining in during the evenings, however; it was way too crowded, so I got take-out.

Pretty bomb quesadilla both at the restaurant and if u order delivery. Chicken comes with guac and the steak comes with spicy mayo

Worst customer service ever. They failed to deliver half of my order. Then when I called about their mistake, they were rude about correcting it and wouldn’t offer anything to make up for what they had done. I would not recommend the restaurant to anyone.

The food is normal… Brandon is pretty nice. It’s a little slow especially to get the check. Other than that everything else was great, food was fresh.

Burritos were not that great, the burrito flavor is the same throughout, no different pockets of deliciousness to distinguish the separate ingredients that make up a good burrito. The burritos we ordered were different than blockheads described. We ordered the San Francisco chicken burrito and it specifically said it had: grilled chicken, cheese, sauteed spinach and mushrooms, black beans, Spanish rice. But there were chunks of potatoes in both our burritos. We are eating the burritos now, but we felt so compelled to write a review, we stopped eating them to write this. Potatoes belong in a breakfast burrito.

This review pertains only to the brunch, well, what was supposed to be brunch anyway. We showed up here at 2:45pm on a sunday afternoon, largely because it was a nice day and they had outdoor seating. Around 5 minutes later a server shows up and gives us the brunch menus. The brunch deal was $ 8 – 9 for an entrée plus a brunch drink which seemed perfect. The vast choices available for brunch entrées were exactly what we were looking for. For the next 15 minutes we sit there expectantly, waiting for someone to come take our order. When someone finally does show up, they inform us brunch is no longer available because its now 10 minutes past 3pm :/I should have just got up and left at this point because we had come here specifically for brunch and if brunch wasn’t going to be served anymore they shouldn’t have given us the brunch menu! Anyway, since we had already been partaking in the free chips and salsa it seemed rude to get up and leave. We ended up having the regular cocktails and lunch entrées. The saving gracd for blackheads in my opinion was the burritos stuffed it mac n cheese instead of rice. It was a novel idea(I’d never seen it before) and it was delicious! If not for this intriguing addition the burritos would have been very ordinary. The drinks were alright too. Not amazing but not bad either. They have the bulldogs — margaritas with beer bottles dunked in them — which are a fun concept. The service was lazy. They waitstaff just completely disappeared for long stretches and you had to go out of your way to ask them for things. If they just tried/cared a little more I think blockheads could provide a 4 or 5 star experience. As it stands, I think 3 stars is generous, would have been a 1 or a 2 if it wasn’t for the gorgeous day and mac n cheese.

I came here recently for brunch and was less than impressed by the experience. We ordered guacamole, and when I took a bite, I immediately felt like I had been poisoned. It tasted like the avocados were spoiled, and that cleaning fluid somehow got mixed in. Absolutely terrible. The server took the guacamole off the bill, but my stomach was churning for the next four hours. Thank God for 10 dollar sangria to take off the edge.

Service here is spotty. They have strict rules on sitting two people at a table for four. I understand but the place was dead. Regardless, our server was very nice and accommodating. My one complaint about this location is the bathroom. If you are going to make me wait in the tiniest hallway, don’t make me lean on the garbage pail or stand above the slop bucket. Food comes out at a rapid pace and drinks are always consistent. Crowd is always youngsters trying to save a buck or two…

Had lunch with a friend here. Extremely friendly service, if a little slow. We waited a LONG time to get our check, but they brought it to us as soon as we asked for it. They have a lunch menu where most dishes are $ 12 complete with chips & salsa, and either a soda or a large frozen margarita. There are lots of vegetarian/vegan options too. You can even ask for gluten-free tortillas or vegan cheese. I had the ground beef burrito. It was really big and came stuffed with black beans, Spanish rice, and cheese. It was all warm and full of flavor, and the outside of the burrito even had a teeny bit of a crunch to it in places due to how well it was toasted. Good Tex-mex food, not too expensive, lots of seating available inside. Check it out.

I always go to their sister restaurant(Mother Burger). I recently turned Vegan and heard they have many vegan options. I ordered online and was concern that the food wouldn’t taste as good as mother burger but I was wrong. They had quick service and even gave FREE vegan sour cream when I made an online note that I never tried it . They sent an Über to my job and I saw on the receipt that it was a rush job, although I didn’t request it because it was far and I figured it will take awhile. The only reason why it didn’t get 5STARS because I haven’t physically been in the restaurant yet. xoxo c.

Stood by the door for 5 minutes. Finally the bartender(I think) yelled across the restaurant for me to sit anywhere. Sat for 10 minutes, nobody approached the table but joked and laughed behind the bar. I left.

One of the best burritos I have ever had. They have vegetarian and vegan options! They make amazing margaritas! The staff is super friendly, however depending on when you go, it can get VERY crowded and busy. But the wait is worth it, the food is incredible.

Good spot for Mexican cuisine in Yorkville. I have been to several of the Blockheads throughout the city, but I frequent this one most often given it is in my neighborhood. This restaurant is on the smaller side but there is additional seating outdoors, which is great during the warmer months. The vibe inside the restaurant is casual and the décor is cool — I am a fan of the trademark monkeys on the wall. Staff and waiters are friendly, and I have never felt rushed to finish my meal. The drink menu is legit. You cannot go wrong with any Mexican Bulldog, which is a beer(usually Corona) turned upside down into a margarita. The sangria and margaritas are also good on their own, but I recommend mixing them together to make what is known as the Black Flower. The food is pretty good. The menu consists of standard Mexican dishes, including burritos, tacos, quesadillas, and nachos. There are also plenty of vegan-friendly options. I usually start with some guacamole & chips and order the BBQ chicken, chicken quesadillas, or beef tacos as an entrée. Overall, I have liked my experiences while eating here. I recommend checking this location out if you find yourself in the area, and I look forward to coming back again soon!

Wow. I was skeptical about the quality of texmex/mex as a native Texan. This place exceeded my expectations! The food was delicious, the environment was great. There is a bar while you wait for a table with GREATDRINKS(try the sangria/margarita mix– its dangerous). I love that they had plenty of veggie and vegan options. As well as omnivore options of course. Tried the big quesadilla– its large enough to split. My friends and I also went for the Marg tower. 65 bucks and we got 3 or 4 margs each(7 of us). Very worth it– good value! Will i be back? Oh man YES. Do I recommend it to all my friends looking for good tex mex and a really lively place? Y.E.S.

Blockheads never disappoints. While I swear they get tinier and tinier(or I’m getting bigger and bigger) their burritos are always tasty and their drinks are always delicious. I love that they have gluten free and vegan options. Way to go with the times, respect food lifestyles and pair it with a slamming margaritas. Timeless classic.

Three of us had dinner. The service was great. Kamil waited on our table. She did a great job. The food came fast and exactly as ordered. No complaints from any of us. Blockheads is a favorite of my daughter. This location is small. Like one reviewer said the bathroom is right by the kitchen. The restaurant was clean, so that’s a plus. Bathroom could have been better taken care of! Two of us had burritos. They are huge. I don’t understand the $ 2.00 extra for the guacamole. I think it’s a rip off. My two partners didn’t mind. I had a new dish that was a three cheese quesadilla. I had to pay an extra $ 1.00 to add spinach. Again I feel like that’s ridiculous. In the end we all left stuffed! I’m uncommitted as to if or how often I would return. I feel I’ve had better elsewhere and paid less.

So late lunch w/a fellow co-worker. He had eaten at Blockheads several years ago but not this particular one but said it was pretty good. They had ½ off burritos and $ 2 lunch size margaritas. Never been to the place but I like Mexican food. Couldn’t have the drinks but I heard their drinks are pretty good and looking around it seems everyone was ordering them and please even if was only 2:30pm. I order the Mexican salad, kept it plain and simple, my co-worker ordered the San Francisco Burrito. Ok let me back up… chips and salsa very good salsa… chips a little too salty but that salsa was extra good. Ok back to our entrees. The burritos are big and stuffed very well, he enjoyed his burrito. He was looking to try the jerk chicken burrito but to me I felt Caribbean and Mexican might not go well together. Well he was happy with his burrito. My Mexican salad was delicious and satisfying, not too much, not too little and not messy. The avacado and corn salsa brought out everything else in the salad. However, I’m a cilantro lady and there seem to be just a hint of it in the avacado mix but just not quite enough and I needed a squirt of lime which I didn’t ask for bc it was really good.

No frills type restaurant. Came on a Thursday night, both ordered the tacos and a margarita. They are all«frozen» which means mine was basically a slushie with a lot of tequila in it. No complaints there, but it was SUPER sweet. The tacos were pretty good, nothing special, the rice along side it was gross tbh. I would stick with just tacos and when choosing a margarita flavor, don’t go too fruity. Or else, it’ll be way too sweet. Also, it took like 45 minutes for us to get our check and my buzz almost wore off, so like, what woulda been the point of slugging down the cotton candy of margaritas if I left sober?
