Food is ok — fresh and clean for the most part but their service is horrible. Go somewhere else.

Blake and Todd has a sandwich bar, pizza oven, quiche, soups, salads, and a steam table. The location is bright and cheery and well laid out. They even have seating for about 12 – 15 with communal bar top tables in the back and along the windows. I tend to go for the steam table and overload on vegetables. Too bad I forgot how expensive this is. Steam table is $ 6 a pound, which is easily a $ 15 lunch. Staff are fairly nice though.

The sandwich guy did not know how to make a sandwich and kept looking at the board to see the ingredients list. I had a BLT that did not have any mayo or anything on it… dry and bland. When I asked for mayo — they then charged me for on top of the sandwich. Come on. Gross Gross sandwich that is very hard to mess up!

I go here because it’s convenient and their bacon is crispy. But that’s about it. The staff at the breakfast griddle area are horribly rude and have the most difficult time understanding the concept of «a grilled cheese with bacon, on a croissant». Like… really? And WHYYYY have they already run out of croissants by 9am anyway? Today I ordered my sandwich, and when he was wrapping I said, ‘I just want to make sure there’s no egg on it, right?’ because it looked like there was some egg oozing out. His response was, «You asked for bacon and cheese, so it is what it is.» Ummm… ex-ca-uuuuse me? Rude! Like I said, I really just go for the convenience…

I have been to this locale about 8 times in the last 18 months. For the most part i go in & out. BUT there are somethings that cannot be ignored and have the need to share. Pls HEED my advice stay away from this place: 1– the staff at the pasta bar are lousy, have nasty attitudes there seems to be this hubris about them that i cannot pinpoint why. they are there to serve us right? 2– As everyone has mentioned in other reviews it is pricey, yes they do have a NYC overhead but that«ain’t» my problem. Exuberant prices for middle of the road fare. Not fair!!! 3– Today a colleague of mine went there as she does every morning to pick up a muffin to only be told by the OWNER not a lousy employee to take her Starbucks sh! t out of his establishment and to buy his coffee if she wanted to make a purchase. I called the store to lodge a complaint and to my dismay I was told that he is the owner. the lady on the phone sounded genuinely upset and embarrassed. Not being convinced i called a store on 57th street and got a hold of him there. He of course denied everything my colleague had recounted and was sort of dismissive. about her story. He came short of saying she made it up; why would anyone do that? I cannot stop anyone from going there but you couldn’t pay me to go there again…

Dear Blake & Todd owners: If you treat customers like dirt, they won’t buy from you. I gave this place a second chance today, after vowing never to go in. The first time I went, there were no customers as it was just after 10AM. I stood there trying to make eye contact with someone to order a plain bagel. After saying, «Excuse me,» to one person who still didn’t make eye contact or respond, I walked out. Today I walked in and — no surprise — similar situation. It was 10:30AM and I just wanted a plain bagel. There was only 1 other person in the place and I felt as though by just walking in, I was intruding or annoying the people working there. It doesn’t matter how good your product is. Service matters.

I love sandwiches, but not something which is bad tasting. I went for a simple Veggie sandwich and got 2 slices of cucumbers and tomatoes, a lettuce leaf and a bread! This is so not happening! The sandwich was bland, dry and was literally screaming for some more veggies. Plus it was pricey too at 7.95 $!

Food is good and fresh just too expensive. A pastrami, egg and cheese sandwich was close to $ 8. If your on a budget please avoid

I hardly ever feel compelled to write Unilocal reviews, whether I’m blown away or completely let down, because hey, things happen. But let this be my first Unilocal review written in anger. First, $ 5.61 for a run-of-the-mill sausage-egg-and-cheese-on-a-roll sandwich is not acceptable. Unlike the hapless tourists walking in from across the street at the Roosevelt Hotel, I have a better idea of what breakfast items should cost, even after the Manhattan premium. Second, if you’re going to charge exorbitant prices, be honest about it. On those giant menu board behind the counter, it says that the same sausage-egg-and-cheese-on-a-roll sandwich should cost $ 4.65 + tax. I’m pretty sure New York State didn’t raise its sales tax to 20.6%, so not only are you ripping me off, you’re ripping me off on the sly. Third — this one’s for the employees — don’t feed me a bullshit line about«oh they changed the prices but left the menu the same» because you don’t feel like fixing your mistake. Here’s a helpful tip: if you clearly made a mistake, the best way to deal with it is by(a) apologizing, and(b) working to fix it, not hemming and hawing as if the dirty floor tiles below you is going to magically come up with an answer for a problem YOU caused. Yes, there might be a non-zero possibility that the prices DID change without the menus also being changed, but in that case, it would be the height of managerial incompetence to not alert the customers to this fact and/or have updated menu board ready to go before you raise the prices. I will NEVER go back there again. It’s a shame, their pasta station is usually pretty good at lunch.

I never thought that I will have to write this review with distaste and such impact by the service. For starters, in the beginning of this year I went to B&T and had a cold meal when it was suppose to be hot. The male staff was not keen to talk or help with this dilemma. So you know where this story will be heading to but worse. Anyhow, this the current story. I dislike ordering from there because the servers are not professional or show they want to work there. Feels very uncomfortable to be in there. I walked in B&T on Tuesday morning @ 9:35 am. I was nervous, haaa, nervous to ask for an ice coffee to this particular female staff. So I stated, «I would like a cold coffee please.» The Latina lady with her lighten bleached hair with roots growing, her hair exposed seemed exhausted bitchy kinda-attitude. She didn’t respond, she appeared to look straight at me and not responding and is if she was saying, «f-k off». lol! The pretty tall slim lady by the middle of the, what seemed to be, salad station stated out loud chuckling, «Don’t worry, when I don’t want to work I will do the same thing, I got your back girl.» From there on it was confirmed that she clearly didn’t want to do anything, in this case work at 9:35 in the morning. I asked the girl if she was alright and she respond with offense, «what!?» «You are talking to her!», I responded, «I was talking to you and apparently you are not feeling well». Luckily, a nice slightly nervous kinda embarrassed short female staff member asked me, «Do you want coffee» while signaling to avoid the staff member with an attitude. The staff member, made the coffee and said thank you for coming, I thanked her with a nod. I foolishly went to the end of the restaurant looking for sugar and a stirrer. I got it and then proceeded to the main entrance where the displeased staff member was. She was leaning on the cashier counter watching my every move. She watched me walk and I said thank you. As I opened the door the miserable looking staff uttered, «Stupid fag». I was running 40 minutes late already to this 2-day seminar @ Roosevelt Hotel. I didn’t want to report to the mngr and to be frank I don’t think they will care. I feel she will be backed up by her friends in there including the mngr. So I gave her the finger. Shameful of me. I looked at them and shook my head and saw her stating, «F – K YOU!» The other staff member had a shocked and embarrassed expression. I feel very bad for her to experience that and that she has to work along side with her. Better Business Bureau soon.

I am not impressed at all with my experiences here at Blake & Todd. Since this spot is so close to my office, I visit here occasionally with my colleagues for breakfast and lunch. Blake & Todd features fresh, make as you order, and quality gourmet foods. Gourmet, I agree with but definitely not quality. I’ll start with what I did like. I do like the fresh salads, juice, and the bakery goods like their brownie. Egg breakfast items are not too bad too especially when you get to hear and see the cracking of fresh eggs into the hot, sizzling grill. Plenty of room here for any one who wants a sit down breakfast. Plus, it is pretty clean. What I am definitely not impressed with is quality. Oatmeal here is watery and its toppings are stale. The quality breads and wraps; I can promise you, I can find all the brands in a local grocery store usually on sale. Buffet is considerably okay, depended upon what you choose. If you are a regular coffee drinker and/or coffee lover, don’t bother with their burnt coffee. And what bothered me the most is the lack of quality in character of a manager. One busy morning with lines of customers, a manager decided that it was a great idea to scream and embarrass one of her employees. No matter what the employee did wrong, pull them aside in private to have a talk with them. That totally ruined the customer experiences for me and the surrounding customers judging by our dissatisfied looks right after. Unprofessional. There are better gourmet venues that exhibits quality in surrounding areas. This is my last visit here.

I really don’t have much to say about this place. Its as Bland as it gets. The only best part about them is, its across the street from my work. So when I am really hungry and short on time and don’t really care what I eat as long as it curbs my hunger, that is when I come here. Its like popping into a 7 – 11 or McD, Nothing special here.

I realize that I went to this place out of sheer convenience, and there are WAY better bagel options in the city, but after a night of drinking I wanted a starchy, delicious, NY bagel and my hopes and dreams were all shattered in the first bite. The bagel tasted like it was packaged up and frozen for months before thawing out to serve for the public. It was dry and not doughy/how a NY bagel should be. Coffee was fine and the girl at the cash register was precious — super friendly. Her cheerful attitude made up for the miserable girls taking the food orders. Noted to not return. Irving in Grand Central Terminal is WAY better.

Thank you for gracing me access to your restaurant! I understand it’s a great honor for you to be willing to serve me so I get the horrible attitude it went with. Seriously food is good not spectacular and staff shouldn’t be in the service industry if you don’t want to serve people

Their hot and cold buffet always includes something creative and delicious. The brussel sprouts are great. Today I had their chipotle mini burgers(no buns!) and they were delicious. A bit pricey compared to other delis nearby with the exception of Cucina & Co. This place’s buffet is priced about the same as that establishment’s but the choices are much better at Blake & Todd. Haven’t tried the deli /pizza counter yet.

4 stars for the food, three stars removed due to the 4 huge salmon bones I picked out of my mouth from the buffet. Poached salmon with some red asian sauce today was delicious but leaving bones in is UNACCEPTABLE at these prices. MUST try harder.

I have gotten two sandwiches from Blake & Todd. While both were reasonably priced and left my stomach full, I wasn’t too crazy about them and they certainly weren’t the best sandwiches I have had. I got the #2 Grilled Seasonal Vegetable($ 6.25), which had roasted peppers, grilled eggplants, grilled summer squash, and balsamic vinegar on a baguette. The baguette was a bit hard and there weren’t enough vegetables in between the bread. Also could have used more balsamic vinegar, as the sandwich was slightly under-seasoned. The second time, I got the Grilled Salmon($ 8.95) with long sliced cucumbers, tomatoes, baby greens, and yogurt-dill dressing rolled in a lahvash. The Lahvash was so dry and reminded me of tasteless tortilla, so I only ate the inside. The salmon was fine, but again they were so skimp on the amount. I couldn’t taste any yogurt-dill dressing.

Blake and Todd’s Fine Foods. I emphasize FINEFOODS. Blake and Todd’s Black Forest Ham on a baguette(sandwich #8) puts Pret’s famous ham and swiss to shame. This is a high quality deli offering salads, sandwiches, hot buffet, pizza, soups, cookies, etc. I enjoyed watching the sandwich guy methodically put together the sandwich with pride. Will be back for more.
