I recently watched The Jeff Lorber Fusion Band. Acoustics were great, the music was not overbearing. You could still carry a conversation with the people you are with. The only thing is that it is pricey.

Came here just the other night with a friend for the first time to see Kurt Elling after purchasing tickets online. The club is cozy, we had great seats, the waitress came right over to our table and took our drinks right away. We saw that there was a $ 10 p/p fee which we figured we should cover in ordering a few drinks, we ended up getting an appetizer that was less than great, but whatever, we were here for the music. Once the show was over, our waitress comes over with a bill for drinks, including the $ 20 extra p/p charge, which was confusing, but didn’t matter, put our cc down, and waited for her to come back so we could sign. Once she comes back with our check, we see that she had crossed off the original amount and added an additional $ 80 to our check, without even consulting us, and then when we said their must be a mistake, we were given a very sly response of «No this is what the charge is.» We then asked why she charged the card a second time, and she just said, this is for your tickets. To make a very long, and confusing story short, we had to speak with a manager who then fixed the problem, but would not assume the blame that this was in fact the wrong way to deal with customers, and not what a waitress should of done, if there is a question as to if tickets were purchased before hand, it should be asked, not implied by her and then charged without explanation. Overall, I can say this place was wonderful, the show was top notch, and we couldn’t of been happier with the entertainment, which is why I gave it 3 stars. The service though? No where near top notch. The problem caused by them was rectified, but with multiple charges to a credit card, causing confusion, frustration, and an overall feeling of being let down after such a wonderful night.

Nothing but the best things to say about Birdland and the staff there. Amazing venue to see a show and incredibly accommodating staff. I’ve just recently moved to NYC and I know already that I’ll be spending a lot of time here.

Visited on Christmas Eve. Delicious food, beautiful place, atmosphere and great music! We came here because of Freddy Cole Quartet and were surprised how beautiful this place is!

Now I must admit I knew NOTHING about jazz, my bf did and this was a surprise date for him… Found this place at the very last minute and got the best seats in the house FRONTROW!!! We had the pleasure to see Catherine Russell & Her Sextet… For a first timer I gave a standing ovation… the melodies the instruments being used was so on point her voice gave me the chills… I WILL go back to experience more jazz artists in the near future…

Just got asked to leave b/c we whispered too loud. I know and understand that the performers work hard at their craft but to not be able to even speak in low tones especially when there is a $ 30 cover unacceptable. The rudeness of the bartender was beyond deplorable and I will never give them one more ounce of business and will pass this along to all those I know visiting the city.

30.00 dollar cover charge. OK with that but then terrible service and rude, drinks are terrible and overpriced, bar was just bad experience, best advice is to avoid this place.

A MUST for any Jazz Lover. We stopped in after a show in time to catch a special performance by Nicholas Payton Trio with Peter Washington and Carl Allen. We were immediately met at the door by a very friendly and accommodating manager who quietly explained the cover and escorted us to our seats, which(after moving a couple of times) were right next to the stage — in line of the keyboard(perfect seats). We paid $ 40 each to get in, and noticed right away — this a was a show, not a club. There was little or no talking going on, and everyone was mesmerized by the performance. We were immediately drawn into the music and performances. Everyone on staff was whispering and ducking when moving around — so as not to interrupt. The place was dimly lit, and the focus was obviously on the music. I wish I could have come back before we left.

Saw an early show with Barbara Carroll doing jazz piano accompanied by a bassist. She is a classy performer playing romantic tunes that put us in a loving mood. She especially loved the Gershwins and played them expertly. The acoustics in the place are great. The venue itself is intimate, with dim décor and tables close to the stage. There was a small crowd when we went, but they were into the show. There is no talking allowed, given the intimate nature of the space, and the show lasted about 65 – 70 minutes. The food looked and smelled good, cajun and creole in style, but we just stuck to drinks. There is a $ 10 per person minimum, which we thought was reasonable. They have a small list of $ 8 beers(bottles only, no draft). We had a guinness extra, blue moon, and a glass of the house white wine. All hit the spot. We were very happy with this memorable performance and would love to try it again. They have later shows, as well.

Friday night, and I was looking for a Jazz club, while visiting NYC. I’ve been to Birdland, years before, and decided to give it another shot for $ 35 + fees per ticket. With 9pm and 11pm choices, I elected for the 11pm. Creole and American food on the menu, and it actually looked good. Beforehand, I ate a huge meal so I wasn’t a player in this game. But don’t shy away from trying a little something, something Great setting. I took a chance on performers I didn’t know, and well, not the best jazz I’ve ever heard. It was fine for an hour or so, and then I was outta there. Overall, very nice and sweet service. Note to self, research the performers before choosing to come here again(and note to you!).

small venue for jazz lovers! Price was $ 40 per person. The entire place holds maybe 100 people. We watched a big band/jazz group that was outstanding!!! We had great seats(all seats are the same price) and we also enjoyed dessert during the show. If you like jazz, you must come here!

Tonight was a tribute to Django Reinhardt and it was delightful, with polished artists knocking out an enthusiast performance in honor to one of the true jazz legends! We enjoyed the show from the bar area which did not give us an ideal view of the musicians, but certainly did not detract from the overall experience. We also ordered a tasty well prepared dinner that took a little long to arrive. But no issues… the music prevailed!

I was going through the photo album on my phone and found these pictures taken at Birdland and thought, I can review that. So here I am, putting my two cents. Birdland has to be one of the few poshest places I have been to. Bzzzzz, peasant detected. I mean I even had pictures of this place. But anyway, my visit was last spring and with a friend. My memory might be lost regarding little details, but overall I remember it being a satisfactory experience. Food-wise, my friend and I shared a artichoke dip and I ordered meself a dish of baked fish. The artichoke dip was the bomb; it was warm, cheesy, creamy, and pairing with those naughty crisps, I could only hear myself chewing and crisps breaking during the whole performance. In comparison, the baked fish was a bit under the shadow; it was bland and was not memorable at all. But it was of huge portion and came with a side of healthy veg; I remember having large appetite, I didn’t get through half of it. Performance-wise, I didn’t remember many details about it. It was definitely a great performance by two very famous jazz musicians; there were applauses and there were people standing up and applauding at the same time. Music connoisseurs might be able to help me recognize from the photos(God, I felt I have already insulted loads of music lovers here). So overall, it was a great experience; I have even written an essay about it. Oh wait, why don’t I just find the paper and put it here? Awwww too bad I can’t find it. Pat pat, I know you are all eager to see it. PS. I haven’t seen my friend ever since our visit here. If you are out there reading it, just press whatever button is here so that we can catch up!

Ok. Let’s start with I’ve never been to a jazz club that did not permit whispering. Even in the bathroom. Also it’s sooooo hot. So hot. Can I repeat that again? I’m still here and my cheeks look flushed. My husband loves it in all fairness… however the rest of our group just left. If you are looking for a serious concert with absolutely no funny business. Have a great time. The music was great.

I WANTMYMONEYBACK! What a rip-off! For a place that promotes«Live Jazz,» we went to a show and got a Norwegian trio who looked like they were close to retirement. They lead singer needed to restart a song and got snippy with the guitarist from here own band! The marketing clearly promoted a jazz band from Mon-Thurs, only when we got to the show, the pamphlet had a very tiny note that said, exceptions for the 6PM show. You’re a jazz spot! What the hell? SMH, to add to that, the apple turnover was burnt and the waiters showed as much enthusiasm as a DMV line. Terrible night.

What can you say about a legend? Arrived just as the first set was ending and snagged an empty seat at the bar. I’m more of a blues man than a jazz guy but the jazz went down smooth along with my single malt. Old photos of the greats on the wall, aged wood panels and bar. Friendly accommodating hostess and nice guy behind the bar. Yeah the beer is $ 8 and a cocktail $ 15, but it’s Manhattan… and it’s Birdland.

My friends, for the legendary Parker’s Birdland I don’t want to write about the food nor the drinks, not about the prices nor the service, but simply about the feeling. Dimmed light on red drapes, pictures of jazz legends on the walls and the music of angels flutters through the air in tasty tasty tones. Drink, relax.

Went there for the Django Reinhardt Gipsy Festival and I was impressed about the quality of the players, awesome. Acustic is really good, the room is well organized with tables and the stage that everybody can see. Food not bad at all, considering that you go there for music. Cocktails good too.
