This place is amazing. I never knew plant based sushi could taste this delicious. I have been to all three locations. This is a quick bite«fast food». Healthy fast food!

I’ve been wanting to try this place for a while — partly because I’ve never had straight up vegan sushi and also because it’s so close to where I live. Couldn’t convince my meat-loving boyfriend to try with me but I’m glad I came! It’s a lovely, small space with very friendly staff(seriously, customer service is 10⁄10). I got the Spicy Mang and the Sunny Side, both of which were as refreshing as they were interesting. I slightly preferred Sunny Side more, as it’s loaded with sweet potato — my one true love. I don’t see it on their Unilocal menu but it’s on the menu in store. Go try!

Really cool, tiny, vegetarian sushi joint offers some eclectic opportunities to enjoy sushi. At around 7.50 a roll you can sample a couple of options without breaking the bank. They hook you up with 8 pieces an order, and the sushi chef does a mean job, rolling that maki. The sushi comes out quickly, and some options leave me a happy sushi master. With that being said, I would not recommend the Sweet Tree roll, but I would most certainly recommend the Spicy Mang roll.

I’ve been hearing great things about beyond sushi for awhile so Today while I was at Whole Foods I was searching Unilocal to see the nearby restaurants and Beyond Sushi came up. I always wanted to try it and I was not let down. I ordered the Spicy Mang and the Green Machine. It was good… Beyond Sushi is a vegan sushi establishment and for people who mostly eat a plant based diet. If you don’t like Vegan food or a plant based diet then I don’t recommend this place. But if you do give them a try you will be amazed I know I was and I will definitely be back!!!

Unfortunately the absence of fish doesn’t reduce your risk of food poisoning. I’ll preface this by saying I’ve been eating at beyond sushi for years. I’m a big fan and the food is very tasty. I had a bunch of food with my cousin and by process of elimination I can assume that the corn sushi sampler is what caused me a weekend of suffering with my head in the toilet. It is off their brand new menu, so I understand that maybe they might not have vetted new vendors well enough or maybe they just accidentally sold tainted bacteria corn because they aren’t used to handling it? Idk. I thought it was an isolated incident so I emailed them to let them know and I basically got a «I’ll get back to you» in response, that was like two weeks ago. Then on their Instagram page(Yes, I follow them on ig, as I said i’m a fan of the place) someone complained that they went into a different location and saw that a bunch of papers and receipts had fallen and remained dipped into the ingredient dishes -.- SERIOUSLY? That pissed me off because if they had just gotten a report about getting someone extremely sick with their contaminated ingredients, how hard is it to send a memo to the staff being like«hey guys, lets all be super committed to food safety and make sure bacteria is not in our ingredients bc our customers deserve better» Like come on. I don’t want to eat somewhere that has a relaxed stance on this stuff. I think maybe the owners are cocky and nonchalant about food complaints bc they know they’re the only vegan sushi in NY. Its a niche market and one or two sick customers won’t affect their bottom line.

Looking for a place to grab something healthy for the evening, was not disappointed. Service is friendly, fast and efficient and the food is light, healthy and tasty. I’m not very agile with sticks but it’s prepared in a way that helps even when you take a salad like I did. One salad is definitely sufficient in the evening. The place is rather small and will not fit more than 12(packed people) but the music is nice and since they do catering or to go, well, you can always find a way. Great find.

Awesome place to visit!!! The only reason that I came to this place is that I really like eating the seafood. One of my favorite dishes is mango, pickle with the mushroom sushi. Highly recommend you to try this!

5 stars for creativity. I absolutely love this place since they are the only vegan sushi restaurant in the city. This location is on the small side so be warned. There’s about 3 small tables, so if you dine in just keep that in mind. The rolls are always fresh, and delicious. I’m really fond of their creativity with the menu. The mango, pickle and mushroom sushi are my faves to date. My only«beef» is that they changed their menu recently and that they got rid of the combos. I was a big fan of the combos, one of the better things they’ve chopped off the block. I can’t wait to see what they will do in the future! I’m still and will always be a big fan :)

This place specializes in vegetarian sushi. Rolls don’t try to mock the fish versions of sushi, but rather makes the most of the grains/vegetable/fruit/mushroom/etc flavors. I tried the Spicy Mang. Presentation was pleasing to the eye. The nutty flavor of the black rice went well with the spicy sauce and sweet mango. The cucumber added a refreshing element to the mixture. I also tried a piece of my friend’s chickpea roll, but thought the chickpea flavor was too strong since I could not taste the other elements in the roll. There are a few tall tables and stools in the restaurant. Wish they had hooks mounted to the underside of the table to hang bags and jackets. Prices are just under $ 7 a roll which is about right considering the specialization of the place, size and quality of the food.

Wound up in NYC on a recent trip and decided to try out Beyond Sushi. It was really good! Great portions as well. Highly recommend whether you’re vegan or not!

So. obviously Beyond Sushi isn’t your typical sushi, but whenever I eat here it makes me appreciate how well sushi works as a delivery mechanism. The rolls here are basically prepackaged bites of veggie rice bowls with the perfect proportion of every ingredient and sauce. Veggie sushi sounds like a gimmick but it just works so well here. You can tell the chefs didn’t just throw a bunch of veggies together and call it sushi. The ingredients are well thought-out and work very well together. If you like mushroom at all, the Mighty Mushroom is your best bet. I would pick one up every day if this place was closer! The noodle salad is great as well, and is a decent portion for only a few bucks. Two orders of this would make a solid lunch. Love the to-go packaging as well — they put the sauces in squeezable tubes so the rolls don’t get soggy in transit.

Cute little spot. Rolls are only 7 dollars. Presentation is Insta-friendly.(Lol) Employees are very nice. Get the Spicy Mang –of the few rolls we got this was the best. Chilli mushroom soup was good. –Mild level of spice. Mushroom wrap was sweet and crunchy. DONOTGETTHEBROWNIE. Do not. Do not. Do not. I couldn’t even finish it. Overall solid vegan spot.

This whole concept is Very Confusing for a Carnivore of my kind, VEGAN Sushi yet somehow I find myself in here. Small little joint doing something different, guess thats the selling point here. What it is, is your Sushi Rolls minus the good part(fish) but yet its the combination of flavors the entice you. I got the ever raved«Spicy Mang» and«Mighty Mushroom» and I must say I was surprised sort of by the whole package. Might Mushroom is but Quinoa Salad tightly wrapped into a roll to say the least. Spicy Mang is a take on Spicy Tuna I guess. I am still confused and have mixed feeling, will I come back No never, why you ask? CAUSE, I’ll take that Tuna and Salmon Please. Should you go here, it definitely is a one time visit yes you should. Verdict — Let leave the whole Veganism to the«LIKEOMG I am VegAn, Like I care for the PlAneeet» West Coasters seriously i still cant wrap my head around this one

Beyond Sushi is an vegetarian sushi bar, which puts a spin on traditional sushi. Before deciding to try this place, I was not sure if I would like it. The main reason why I love sushi in the first place is that it’s made with my favorite seafood. I went ahead and decided to try it anyways — what a good decision. I ordered the Sweet Tree Roll($ 7) which is 8 pieces of rice, avocado, sweet potato and sprouts. It all was amazing, especially the sauce they topped it with. So good,(and still so hungry) I ordered a second roll set. No shame. Beyond Sushi made me a believer in good vegetarian food, especially when it comes to sushi. They had a lot of other great options that I’m now excited to try. It wasn’t that expensive either! Plus, they’re on seamless so makes sushi more convenient than ever.

Heard about this place a la a thousand wellness blogs for NYC. The menu is very lengthy, hardest part was picking which direction to go. I opted for the«wrap» but I think the sushi route is the way to go. I ordered the nutty buddy wrap, the vegetables were crazy fresh and it was super flavorful. However, not mind blowing. The seaweed salad was a pretty heaping portion, very good. The avocado cookie was not a typical sweet cookie, so don’t order it if you’re in the mood for a treat, it’s more of a sponge cake type cookie. It’s a vegan restaurant that is very small, so i recommend ordering out since the seating inside is limited. Also be sure to bring a friend you’re very confident is comfortable with vegan… Cause there isn’t any other option here(a ok by me ;))!

Super unique vegan menu at a great price! Stopped in today for lunch… the one thing I did not realize was that this was not a sit down restaurant, but it wasn’t a big deal. You place your order at the counter and there is pretty limited seating, but that wasn’t an issue today(weekday) at lunch time. They have pre-made drinks and some items like cookies are pre-made as well, but everything else is made to order. The salads are a REALLY good portion size(giant!) and very flavorful. The rice included in the salads make them filling enough to have on their own as a meal. Since everything is made to order, they’re very accommodating if you want to take something out, which I did(and I’m sure add something in too if you ask nicely, although I can’t say if that’ll cost extra or not). Definitely worth looking at the roll and piece of the month too! My boyfriend got a one of the combo meals that came with two individual pieces and one roll for around $ 9 and that was enough for him to have as a meal. The strawberry kiwi lemonade was great, too!

I’ve been a vegetarian for about 2 years now, desperately looking for places that provide innovative and filling veggie options. Sure, almost every restaurant offers fries and salads, and that’s usually what I’ll resort to on most days. But, very few restaurants cater to non-meat eaters, and when you find a good one you get really excited. Well, that’s why I was BEYOND thrilled when I first caught word about Beyond Sushi. I quickly bookmarked the establishment, waiting for the day I’d be in the city; close enough to finally try it. Yesterday was that day. I had tickets to go see Fuerza Bruta and had a few hours to spare before the event. I made my way to Beyond Sushi. Here’s the scoop: The concept of an all vegetarian sushi bar is amazing. It’s such a simple idea, but I’ve never seen it materialized until now. Beyond Sushi offers about 10 different specialty sushi rolls, and about 4 different types of rice paper wraps. All of their offerings are very colorful and aesthetically pleasing. They also feature a special roll of the month that is inspired by the season. The place is very small, so don’t expect lots of seating. I can’t be sure if they even have a bathroom(didn’t see any extra doors). Although small, Beyond Sushi is very accommodating and the staff is extremely friendly. The men at the counter were all smiling and seemed liked they genuinely enjoyed their job(possible signs of good management). They were also knowledgable on all of Beyond Sushi’s food offerings. I ordered the Spicy Mang roll(a sweet and spicy treat), and the Mushroom wrap(with cashews and a spicy dressing). I also ordered the black bean brownie(the star of my meal) and the coconut/orange juice(an interesting, yet satisfying combination). Everything was pretty good, but the brownie was To Die For! In my opinion, it was better than a traditionally baked brownie, and the fact that it was made from wholesome ingredients made it even better. Everything cost me about 15 bucks. The only thing that I would say I didn’t like is that the place is more like a «fast-food» sushi place, rather than an actual sit-down establishment. You order at a counter and wait for your food to be ready while seated. This makes your dining experience feel very rushed and less«cozy». Adding to the fast-food atmosphere, I also noted that the sushi rolls are pre-made. I saw the man cut through my Saran-wrapped sushi roll as soon as I ordered. This makes for quick service(which I appreciate), but it takes away from the whole experience. Food and service are solid, so I can envision myself becoming a regular.

FAVS: — Mighty Mushroom Roll — mmm mushrooms! — Nutty Buddy Wrap — comes with sweet soy mirin sauce. It’s like a thick creamy blend of nutty soy sauce. — Spicy Mango — comes with spicy mayo sauce — yum! — Spicy Mushroom Wrap — I love mushrooms and there are lots of mushrooms(Enoki, shiitake, portabella) packed in the thin rice wrap. It’s a tad spicy from the Korean sweet and spicy chili sauce but delicious — throw in the sweet Shiitake Teriyaki sauce even better! The sauces that come in the little tubes are amazing and it makes all the difference! Note: Get the combos — its more worth it.

Actually around 3.5 stars but I’ll round up since I feel a little healthier after I have one. The concept of vegan sushi doesn’t seem real. There should be some kind of seafood right? Kinda. Beyond Sushi is a place where you need leave your normal idea of sushi at the door. I usually get whatever seasonal special is here and I haven’t been running screaming back to normal sushi yet. It’s good for what it is. It is vegan sushi — so it’s all vegetables, fruits, and plant-based items. Sometimes, the flavors don’t necessary mesh well and it feels like you’ve dipped a hodge podge of salad in a little bit of soy sauce but overall, I found that I do enjoy grabbing a vegan roll once in a while. The portions aren’t that filling — which is the disappointing part. One roll will not make you full. The place itself is small. Coming in during a lunch hour means you probably will have to wait for or take it to go. It has the hole in the wall feel but in a healthy sort of way. I recommend trying it at least once. You never know how you’ll feel afterward.

Even though I’m not vegan, I love trying innovative concepts in the vegan world. There are only three tables, so you’d be lucky to find seating. They prepare the food near the counter in the back to imitate the non-vegan sushi experience. You can see them put the perfect amount of sauce on each piece. My friends and I shared the Mighty Mushroom, Spicy Mang, Sweet Tree, and The Haricat. Each of the rolls had their own distinct appeal. What really appeals to me about this place is that they don’t try to imitate sushi, hence the name«Beyond Sushi.» They use these vegetarian ingredients to make a completely different culinary experience. Each roll had its own textures, complementing sauce, and distinctive ingredients. As a person who thinks all forms of raw fish taste the same, I really appreciated the rolls. I would definitely come back. The only one we didn’t like was The Haricat, because it had an overwhelming ginger taste. I found it weird, because in the list of ingredients under each item on the menu, there was nothing with ginger. I think that they might have put the wrong sauce on The Haricat for us, because the ginger flavor was so apparent. After reviewing the site, I think they might have given us the sauce for Pickle Me. The other rolls were so good that I’m willing to overlook this. Each person only paid about $ 10. I left feeling full and very healthy, so naturally I went across the street to get bubble tea.
