I chose Barilla for dinner because it was a relatively close walk to our hotel, and my kids love pasta and pizza. I went out with the kids for the afternoon, and called my husband to meet us there. By the time I got there with the kids, we were 45 mins late to meet my husband(who was exhausted from the NYC ½) and who was not at Barilla to meet us. I had a dead phone and 2 tired, thirsty/hungry complaining kids in tow. Before I could even put my bags down to look at the menu, Cruz came to the rescue. As he came out to give us a menu, my little one asked for water. I was about to tell her to wait, but he graciously offered to get her a cup, and did so immediately, I was worried about my husband-he hadn’t slept a wink the night before the ½, and he is very reliable. I asked Cruz if there was any way he could call him for us. He unhesitatingly handed me his phone, and after 2 calls I tracked him down. As for the food-it was really quite good. We tried the tagliatelle bolognese, the salmon penne, and pesto. I am a foodie, and Italian American, so I am pretty critical when it comes to pasta and pizza. The bolognese was probably the best, followed by the salmon and then the pesto. The pesto is a creamy version with probably some ricotta mixed in, so the basil garlic flavors are very tame. I will definitely go back for another visit next time we are in town. Big thank you to Cruz for saving the day!

I was looking for cheap and casual pasta and came upon this place. First impression was the neat and clean interior with several tables along the walls and a long communal table down the middle. You order at the register first, then they give you a number. The cashier was super friendly(so was the guy who brought the food out). I got farfalle genovesi and a cup of minestrone. Everything looked very nice. The minestrone was great. Lots of vegetables and a tasty broth. But the farfalle. I agree with other reviewers who said the pasta lacks flavor(or it could be just this pesto sauce). Its super thick and had a grainy feel. Definitely couldve used some garlic, salt, something. I think Ill be back though just to give this place another chance. Pros: 1. Quick, friendly service 2. Clean and uncrowded 3. Inexpensive 4. Good minestrone Cons: 1. The pasta was painfully bland.

I ordered their Lasagna using a coupon given to me and I have to agree with the other reviewers the flavor was too bland. There is no saucy, cheesy, meaty goodness to this dish that I have had at other high and low end Italian establishments. I should have sprinkled on some parmesan maybe it would have given it a nice salty flavor. Service was great but they really need to focus more on the taste of their food.

Lucky find! We popped in after a long day and were welcomed warmly. Every entrée that one of us chose was delicious! Not a single bite of lasagna, meatball marinara, or alfredo were left on our plates. Willy and Cruz were exceptionally friendly and provided excellent service. Bravo, gentlemen! And finally, while you are inside the reataurant, it is as if you are not in the city any longer. The restaurant is spacious and you can’t hear the hustle and bustle outside. Highly recommended for a satisfying and tasty meal!

Really don’t know why it’s only three stars… Maybe people ordered the wrong choices? I feel surprised because my experience and my entreè was amazing. I stopped into Barilla with my roommates with a chance. We had just come in from Jersey and we decided to randomly eat here. I ordered the Spaghetti Pomodoro and it’s honestly something I would come back for weekly. It was the best spaghetti I’ve had in a long time and I’m crediting it 100% to their talents. Filling and flavorful, your tummy would thank you and me for ordering this. Besides amazing food, the atmosphere kind of makes you feel like you wish you were in Italy. A lot of plants, bright lighting and gentle music. The service was fast and friendly, and for NYC the prices were completely worth it.

I’m writing this as I eat lasagna, this is my 3rd trip here. People call the food here flavorless… but this zesty sauce I’m tasting as we speak? Magnifico!!!(In my bad Italian voice). Previously I tried 2 different pizzas. Both we OK but something off about the flavors… and the Nobile had way too much green shit(some sort of green vegetable I don’t care for). The capricciosa(I’m sure that’s spelled wrong) was better, but again something in the cheese and olives tastes strange. So it’s a hit or miss with the food honestly. The restaurant itself however is lovely!!! Perfect for a romantic date. The staff there are sweetest I’ve encountered in any restaurant in my life. The wait isn’t long for your food. It’s got such an authentic Italian feel! Like you’re legitimately in Italy! That NEVER happens in this touristy area filled with McDonald, cafes and Irish Pubs! I recommend it, but get a great dish .I recommend the lasagna.

Today I left my wallet at home, but I found one of my credit cards at work. This place is very close to my work and I come in from time to time for a salad. I ordered my salad and the server gave me a number. But he told me my card got declined. I asked him to try it again, he did and just gave me back the card nodding his head so I assumed it went trough. When the food was not out in next 10 min I asked about it, and was told that because my card actually didn’t go through. The manager was there and told them to still make my food and they just presented me with a check. I went home and called them to give them the credit card number which they were able to charge over the phone. It was such a wonderfully surprising experience given that this is NYC restaurant next to Penn station. To have such trust in strangers is to have humanity! So thank you one more time!

Nice place with bland food. Everything went really well here until i tried the food. I had high hopes this would be a nice spot for lunch. Convenient location, nice seating area, and the prices are even pretty reasonable(although $ 2.95 for a plastic bottle of seltzer water is a bit steep). Service was pretty good… you order at the counter and they bring your food out later when it’s ready(I waited less than 5 minutes). I ordered the tagliatelle bolognese and it looked good — a nice sized serving of pasta in a real bowl with real silverware even. Unfortunately it was bland. The pasta was overcooked, it needed salt, and the sauce was flavorless. The place looks like they spent some money on it — and the rent this close to MSG can’t be cheap. I only wish they put some more effort into the food.

I WANTTOLOVETHISPLACE! I want to get good pasta salad concoctions quickly, without having to even cross the street from my office in the blistery cold. But no, each time I come here(yes I am a glutton for gluten and for punishment apparently), the food disappoints. The staff is awesome(or else I’d go starless) but everything I’ve tried has been flavorless. Boo.

I fell in love with this place before it even opened! The décor was inviting and you can’t go wrong with anything Italian! My love only grew as I entered the doors for the first time. The smell of tomato sauce and warmth of the photos on the walls just pull you in. You are greeted with a smile, you are asked what you would like and immediately you are served one of the best cups of coffee in NYC!!! There are warm croissants that accompany the sympathy that is already playing on your palate and amazingly, you are transformed to a warm place and you realize life is good and you can get through this day! Who knew that you could get the best Espresso here!!! I only share what I have enjoyed. See for yourself! I’m sure you will be as pleasantly surprised as I was! Mangia!!! Mystery

I love Italian food. I wanted to really love this place. I love Barilla and everything they represent. I love how they make fresh pasta. But I don’t think the heads at Barilla have ever been here… I read other Unilocal reviews that their Lasagna was one of their best items, so that is what I ordered. It looked great, smelled great and arrived at a nice, warm temperature. The portion looked just right too. It was easy to use the aid and side of my fork to cut a small bite for myself. In it goes… Suspense… Suspense… Drumroll please… Where was the flavor? I really didn’t taste much. I tasted the pasta. That was good, al dente, even. I knew sauce was there. I knew cheese was there. Meat, too! Unfortunately, this red sauce was the most bland marinara I have ever tasted. I don’t know what the cheese tasted like, all I know is that I kept on dousing my lasagna with grated Parmesan cheese and salt for something. Anything! The service was nice, the atmosphere was nice, and this place is a peaceful getaway for such a busy and crazy area. That lasagna though… was just disappointing. Barilla — where are your chefs? I’d rather buy your boxed pasta and jarred sauce and make my own lasagna at home then come back for that. I would like to give this place another chance with another pasta dish. I want to be wrong… Barilla, please tell me I am wrong…

Not cheap, and the food is just not good for the price. 1 star for the pasta and 1 star for the super-friendly staff, but I just ordered a sandwich from there and literally threw most of it out after taking a few bites. It was disgusting and total waste of $ 10. It I hadn’t gotten take out I would have asked for a re-fund.

Placed an order for lunch on Seamless. Ten minutes later get an email saying my order will be delivered in 30 – 40 minutes. Ten minutes after that I get a notice my order has been refunded because they’d changed their delivery area. They’re a block from my office. Won’t be ordering again.

This is my new favorite lunch spot. Pasta is a meh, but the pizza is nice. Per it’s price, I think the flavor is pretty decent. There are too many so-so lunch spots around penn station range from 1 $ pizza to 20 $ specials, but I can’t really find anything that’s ‘quality’. You could go to RCafe for some cheap greasy stir fry, or you could walk to next door to pret a manger for some expensive but average sandwiches, if you are willing to walk a few more blocks, dig-inn is also quite nice. Korean town is close, but I haven’t really been able to find a place that’s fast and tasty during lunch rush. Per the price, flavor and service, I felt like this is probably the best choice, at least on 5th and 32nd street. It’s a spot you could spend a few more bucks to have a nice meal or grab a quick bite if you don’t have time, and you’ll feel equally enjoyable either way.

Might be a good spot for lunch, but pass on dinner. Though the service is exceptional, the staff being one of the friendliest I have encountered in the city, the food leaves much to be desired. What we ordered: Tortellini Alfredo — flavorless, alfredo tasted like a jar of unseasoned heavy cream Tagliatelle Bolognese — meat alone was good, however with the pasta overall lacked flavor Looks the location is new however so maybe they need to just work out a few kinks. The place itself is very large so if the food improves, would be a decent option for a large group.
