Barcelona Bar

Went to this bar to start off the night with some fun drinks before partying harder at dancier/​crunk bars. My friends and I came after work around 7 and the place was packed with good music playing and a mixed crowd of 20s and 30s. This bar is very slim and long. There are a few coveted tables for intimate conversation in the front and a long bar with seats as you walk further in. We were lucky to snag two chair that three of us scrunched into where we ordered some themed shots to wake us up before a fun night out. The bartenders are fun and personable. $ 10 credit card minimum.

I came here because everyone was raving about the Harry potter shots, and looking at the Unilocal pictures… I had to have one. To get this speciality shot you need to buy minimum 2 at $ 7 a pop… I came alone :/​but I wanted to see the showcase so I shelled out $ 14. I was amazed by the spectacle. The shot although tasted like candy vodka mixed with another type of liquor… but I can’t wrap my head to what hmm

Yes yes yes! Harry Potter shot is an absolute must. Highly entertaining the bartender is super. Good times! Cool music too! If I lived in NYC iI’d so freaking visit this place often. only bar ever I’ve been too that has theatrical shots. Beware the Monika Lewenski shot, you will get wet!

HARRY POTTER SHOTS!!! with theatrics from an awesome bartender! def a must do if in the area but its a really dingy, sticky place. not somewhere i could linger… go for the theme shots (harry potter, lord of the rings etc.) and the very reasonable prices but do not plan on staying there — unless you’re into icky bars!

Took the wife here after dinner and I have to tell you that Unilocal did us a solid by recommending this place. The shot list is nothing short of epic. The bartenders are pretty cool as well. I have to recommend the sea salt and caramel shot and it’s divine. They have several that are chocolatey and they are so delicious. Not to mention that yes they do light the Harry Potter shot on fire, but you have to get them 2 at a time which I thought was a little odd. Most shots are $ 5 and there is a list of those that are $ 7. But they also have standard beers and drinks for us that can’t do shots like the pro’s do. I will definitely go back here the next time I visit NYC this place is AWESOME!!!

GREAT dive/​shot bar. Adam was a GREAT bartender, awesome attitude, smart, funny, just the right amount of crap given to us to make it interesting and fun. Each shot we watched people order was like watching a mini SNL skit centered around a themed shot, all done with humor and a smile. Will definitely return when I’m in NYC again… not many bars keep me captured for 7 hrs and leave me with a tummy ache from laughing. Thank you, Adam;)

I’m from Florida on vacation. After walking around for an hour looking for a bar that didn’t charge $ 10-​$ 15 for a beer and wasn’t jam packed with people not talking to each other, I saw this gem on the corner. It looked small, the light was flickering. I got to the door and it said «No ID, no entry. No stories». I knew I was home.
The bartender Casper was by far the funniest and best bartender I’ve ever had. The songs and dances he did for different shots were hilarious and the whole bar enjoyed watching.
I ordered a Pokemon shot. Little did I know I ended up wearing a Pikachu hat while the Pokemon theme song was playing. The whole bar sang along with me. It was awesome.
10/​10, have no regrets coming here. Best hole in the wall bar I have ever been to. If you like fancy places, stay away, but if you want to feel cozy and have fun… Welcome home.

I am surprised by the positive reviews for Barcelona. It is a narrow and sticky bar with hardly anything on tap. When I went, the bar had a foul smell. There was just nothing appealing about the place and I left after 15 minutes. A couple girls were celebrating a birthday and doing shots. They were very sloppy. That’s probably the key to enjoying this place.

Really cool spot. First thing I tried was the Gronkowski shot being a patriots fan and immediately after taking it I spiked the shot glass on the table… just kidding but that is what I felt like doing after taking it, well done. They have a list of all there shots on a large board behind the bar. The presentation is great, especially the SpongeBob shot (they played the music in the background. if there is one negative I would say from it, it would be that it is not to big. You have the main bar and seats in the back, not a place for dancing. Off the top of my head we probably had five or 6 different shots each. Tab came up to about 60 and the bartender gave s an extra shot (smores shot) tasted just like it lol.
I wanted to take there Alabama something drink because I’ve heard how good it is but I was feeling good after the shots and could not get drunk since I was driving back.

In an effort to escape a yawn-​inducing concert my friend had won tickets for, I suggested that we head to her favorite diveish bar. Within 15 minutes, she and I were walking out toward a more exciting future involving child-​proof fire and drinks strong enough to make me forget my own last name.
In addition to having a cheap jukebox (it had rap, reggae and death metal even though the millennials were playing Taylor Swift when we walked in) looking like a larger version of a Simon electronic game this place also allowed us to have food delivered (we gave white and regular slices to the super nice bouncer).
What this place is well-​renowned for, however, is its thematic shots. Once the Jukebox was paused and the theme songs for Star Wars, Pokemon, Top Gun and Harry Potter were playing, we knew to expect (A) hats and accessors for both the bartender and patrons who ordered the shots; and (B) a shit ton of flames. Why flaming combustible shots are fun goes without saying, how no one was set on fire? That’s the skill of the bartender.
The regular drinks were damn strong. My friend bought me an Alabama Slammer and I could not finish it as it was 85% alcohol (I finished only half) and while the cranberry and vodka had some actual juice in there, it was equally as strong. The bartenders were super nice and even at 2:30 am had more energy than I did at 9am, after three cups of coffee. Thank you Barcelona Bar, I will likely see you next week.

This place is wonderful and so different than other bars. The ambiance isn’t that great and it is very narrow, but definitely go here with friends for fun activity shots.
Most shots are $ 5, so it’s not that bad (especially if you are a lightweight). The blow job shot is so good. It’s bailey’s with whipped cream. This is different than the Monica Lewinsky, which requires an added activity when you get the shot. The gummy bear shot is also good.

Crowded. Overpriced, overly sweet drinks. Meh. The only shots worth doing are the Harry Potter shots.
There’s barely any room in that tiny bar and everything is so sticky and disgusting inside! When you take a shot you’ll understand why everything is sticky — cause there’s so much sugar in them you are barely getting alcohol.
The specialty shots — I find the ones with music and props not too great. They’re just uneventful. We tried the Legend of Zelda shot and it was just 9 neon green shots shaped as a triforce while they gave us a fake sword to swing around for a bit.

This spot I went to a while back with a huge group of us — boy is it rowdy! It’s one of those narrow bars that you can barely make it 30ft back to the bathrooms. It’s more crowded than a subway car during rush hour let’s say — and about that size. Now the bartenders do all these cool weird tricks — which can be pretty entertaining. They make you wear props and they do fire on the bar top in front of you, etc. The downfall however is that their shots menu is so vast that they don’t specify what liquors they use specifically to make them. I asked them to make me a random concoction I usually and they were glad to give me whatever I wanted which was nice. It’s definitely a crowded, very young, college-​scene, jam packed. Needless to say being part of an older crowd, we eventually made our way over to another spot down the block that finally had some space and we could hear ourselves speak.
Overall — cool place if you’re feeling rowdy and wild to down some crazy named shots for the night! 21^st birthday maybe?

I woke up in my clothes. There’s vomit on my shoes. The inside of my lip is split. I’m going to have to piece this together like Sherlock Holmes. But which one, though? I love you Benedict Cumberbatch, but I think Robert Downey Jr. is better suited to solving total blackouts. Martin Freeman is my Watson of choice, though. Hmmm… might make for an interesting fanfic pairing.

I deduce that I may have fallen completely on my face on the bus, thus sending the Operator into a complete panic. Case solved!
Pro Tip for Barcelona Bar — If you don’t want to do specialty shots, the bartenders here do some frighteningly heavy pours in their mixed drinks. So if the bartender replaces the drink she threw out when you went to the restroom, don’t chug it because it’s last call, you idiot.

Not my style. It’s trying to be a dive bar but the zone brings in a lot of people that wouldn’t otherwise be there. Place is a bit too loud full of alpha males trying to assert dominance (which me and fellow beta’s don’t appreciate)
When I put something (smiths people, it is a dive bar) decent in the jukebox instead of the ramblings of what I can only assume was lady gaga, there was no noticeable reaction of the crowd. People semed relieved to go back to womanizer after.
Had my beer and moved along.

A college student.
A light weight person who wants to keep up with his/​her friends.
Bored.
Like dive bars.
Love fancy shots. Or any combination of the above, this place is your place!
From a business standpoint, this place is GENIUS. Mixers + a splash of real alcohol (you get to choose between vodka, whiskey, jäger, tequila, and «other») and they charge you $ 5. As a light weight, I’ll say that I can drink 4 shots and a beer and still walk out of there fine. Most of the shots are $ 5 and the presentation is a very big thing here… just check out some of the pictures where things are on fire!
One word of warning: sugar + alcohol = vomit. Which is what the bathroom smelled like… and urine… and copious amounts of bleach.
Good luck and remember where the garbage cans are.

I love this bar. I’ve been here twice now and I’ve had a great time both times. On Fridays, it gets a bit crowded early in the night. I think a lot of people come here to pregame. It clears up by about 12 am though. The bar’s pretty small, so I recommend coming during off hours because it’ll be impossible to grab a drink/​shot otherwise. Plus, you need to be in front of the bar to see all the cool stuff they do for their shots.
I ordered quite a few shots while I was there. They range from $ 5 – 7, which is not bad at all for how cool the experience is. I got ‘Winter is Coming’, which is minty and white. Not sure what was in it, but it tasted like vodka. ‘Berlin Wall’ also has a minty taste, but the color is brown. I also got ‘L’eggo my Eggo’, which is my favorite. It tasted just like syrupy, buttery goodness. You can’t even taste the alcohol.
As for the activity shots, I got the Harry Potter shots. The shot itself was okay, but the experience is so cool. The bartender dresses up as Harry Potter, with a scarf and glasses. He has a toy wand and starts casting spells on the shots and the shots actualy light up on fire. It was SO COOL. There were a few other noteable ones too, like ‘Wild Turkey’ and ‘Monica Lewinsky.‘
Highly recommend coming here at least once. It’s a completely different experience and my friends and I really enjoyed it. We need more dive bars like this!

A quintessential example of a dingy, slightly smelly bar with a whole lot of potential for fun. Take your pick from their astonishingly long list of shots, and see your friends’ stunned faces as it turns into something they immediately regret. (See attached photo) And I’m not just saying that because I was coerced into experiencing the «Monica Lewinsky» by people who were supposed to be my friends.
Anyway, this is a great last or 2^nd-​to-​last stop on that drunken bar crawl. Highway to the Danger Zone, folks. Then end the night with the Harry Potter, just because I’m saying so.

Not your average dive bar…
My friend and I stopped by here for happy hour on a Tuesday night. It was pretty empty and quiet, but I can imagine it gets pretty rowdy on the weekends.
Shots galore. All types of shots with funny names like «Monica Lewinsky» and «Full Metal Jacket». There are seriously so many shots to choose from but the bartender recommended Harry Potter and we happily obliged.
The bartender put on quite a show completed with Harry Potter scarf, wand, and fire. My friend was also given a sorting hat and a wand! It was a spectacle. The shot itself was just okay-​tasted like cinnamon. We also had the strawberry lemonade as well as the Jolly Rancher shots. They both tasted exactly like they sound, but with minimal alcohol. You go here for the novelty, not so much the strength of the drinks.
