I’ve come here on several occasions and it’s always a good time. Bar tenders are attentive and friendly but don’t hover. Upon sitting down you’re served a tall glass of water which is nice. There’s a good selection of tapas to munch on while you’re boozing and the atmosphere is really chill, especially with the front windows open. As a vegan the menu leaves me with little options(olives) but I know most ppl would enjoy what’s there. It’s on a great street for people watching and overall a good time. The wine selection is extensive so come thirsty!

Could’ve been a place I liked as a Nice pricey place… but it immediately gets no stars if Unilocal allowed when they automatically put a 20% tip on your bill and they don’t tell u! And on top of that there are no waiters or waitresses! U have to order from the bar. Rip-off. Stay as far away as possible.

Overpriced. Don’t order any food. The sandwiches taste just like bread because they don’t put anything in it. It used to be better. Now it’s just another chain place.

Love this place. Had my birthday party here last night with about 10 guests. They reserved us a table in the back; beautiful setting/lighting, A hip, elegant, ambience. The noise level was fine/barely noticeable even at 8PM. The wine list has abundant, lovely choices, the food was very good and the service was exceptional. I felt that we were really taken very good care of… not always the experience I come away with in moderately-priced NYC establishments.

This is the second time I’ve ever had a bar/restaurant change the tip amount on my receipt. I was pretty dumbfounded the first time it happened at an Indian restaurant in UWS, but Bar Veloce seemed like a classier and more reputable establishment. Oh well. My server is «Doug S»(according to my receipt) and it seems he felt inclined to add an extra $ 3 on top of what I tipped him. I’m not one to cry over $ 3… but I’m pretty sure it’s illegal to change the amount on a credit card receipt. Fortunately, I saved the receipt from April 6 and am now comparing it to my credit card statement and disputing the extra charge. I hope his manager reads this and catches him up-charging other receipts as well so they can fire his ass. Good luck, Doug S.

Amazing service, great paninis. Love how they expanded the place and have doors that open out on to the street. A sophisticated, fun place to meet if you love wine.

One of my favorite wine joints in the city. Bar Veloce strikes a perfect balance between maintaining a wine-reverent atmosphere and presenting wine as very approachable– I’ve come here in both my best button down a nice t-shirt. The wine menu is well curated, and extends beyond typical Italian offerings. Each glass seems to open me up to new tastes and profiles and, even if I favor some much more than others, my appreciation and knowledge of wine has only grown. Great place for a one-on-one, either for a date or talking with a friend. Vibes are right and the décor is a funky, fun play on Italian themes.

Probably the best wine bar in the area. Love the ambience inside. Very romantic and comfy. The wine list is surprisingly disappointing in that they are somewhat limited by the glass. And the prices for wines by the bottle is somewhat astronomical! Yikes.

We were looking for a place to catch a nightcap in E Village and came across Bar Veloce across the street from my daughter’s apartment. It was full of people so looked like a good spot. This is a good sized bar, very loud, with a good drink and appetizer menu. We had a couple glasses of wine and a sambuca. They were fine. Service was also fine. Nothing to complain about or rave about. Bar Veloce is a good wine bar if you’re in the area and that’s what you’re looking for.

Horrible service!!! Extremely rude bartender. Wouldn’t serve us food because the«kitchen was too busy.» There were only four people in the place!!! Will NEVER go back again.

This is a total hidden gem. If you are looking for REALITALIANPANINI then do not overlook Bar Veloce. If you seat by the bar, the bartender treats you as if you are in his own house. The experience is just really cozy and homy. I will be definitely coming back for a warm toasted panino classico.

Really really nice bar, with a good selection of wines and their panini were really great, made with care and with high quality mozzarella. Just a note that this place is made more for drinks than for food, also if both are great.

Walked in at 6pm. Bar is 75−80% full. One lonely bartender. 15 minute wait for one drink. Beyond annoying.

This is a great spot when the weather is nice because they open the front walls to the restaurant, so it’s completely open air. I’ve only ever sat at the bar, and the bartender is nice if not a little condescending at times. The wine is moderately priced, and I’ve never been when it’s over crowded.

From the outside, it looks perfect, welcoming — even. However, once I stepped inside, I felt the whole fancy-shmancy-overpriced-wines and food. The seating arrange is already weird, and should have noticed it from the get-go. It’s more of a picnic/high-bench seating. Definitely specializes in wine, obviously categorizes as a «wine bar,» but the food was meh. MEH. As for as the service, they’re okay. Not too attentive either. The only great thing? They have these doors that open up in the warmer seasons that gets the place airy — thank you, New York. K, that’s all I have to say. I know not über helpful, but looks like I am not the only one who feels this way. LOL

Do not go to this bar. The bartender seemed on top of things immediately greeting us and giving us water but then disappeared. We literally had to flag him down and say something to get a drink. He wasn’t knowledgeable and never checked on us until we asked for the check. Terrible service!

Came here awhile back with E and I remember it was a super cold night and I took my stuff into the restroom when I was waiting for E. The restroom was super small and layout was really wonky. My stuff fell to the dirty floor and I was disgusted, because this place really need to focus on their cleanliness of the restrooms. I had the Ginger Island Storm — it was good, and the service was good, but the ambiance and the cleanliness of the restroom just brought this place down for me.

Loved this cute wine bar in NYC! I was stuck in NYC for the night and my friend brought me here. It’s good for groups and has many places to sit — especially if you are with one person, you can sit around the bar. The selection was mostly Italian but pretty varied. They do run out of wines quickly but it’s still somewhere to go before or after dinner. The bartender actually opened a new bottle of red for us — it was a darker, drier, malbec — he knew exactly what we wanted! Prices weren’t completely unreasonable.

This is a nice little date spot. The wines are good and reasonably priced. The atmosphere is intimate and service is professional. Food options aren’t the best.

Love this place. They really know their drinks well. I haven’t eaten here but love the quality of cocktails. Atmosphere is nice and service is great. Slightly slow but friendly and knowledgable. I’m not a big fan of their chairs, very uncomfortable for an average height person like me(5’4). Almost tempted to take off a star for the chairs but the drinks make up for it.

I love this place! It’s an amazingly romantic spot with classic jazz and wonderful atmosphere. It is very intimate on the weekdays. It gets a little crowded for my taste on the weekend but you can still find a corner to enjoy the moment in. The wine is great and excellent service.

Just had a single glass of wine here last night. Enchanting interiors, very upscale feeling. Wine list is mostly Italian and mostly very expensive. My cab sauv at 16 bones was quite amazing. The sommelier dressed in a three piece suit and spectacles hanging off his nose seemed a little snooty and didn’t actually speak to us, just stared as a way of prompting us to order. The food menu is mostly paninis, doesn’t seem to match the quality of wine.

It’s midnight on a Saturday. My friends, who I haven’t seen in ages, refuse to wait on line to get into the bar where I started my night. So we went in search of a quiet place to chill and catch up. Enter bar veloce. Quiet, expansive, tons of seating, a hook for every coat and purse. Perhaps the lighting could have been dimmed and the bathrooms were reminiscent of those in an airplane, but these are small criticisms. My girls ordered a bottle of Sauvignon blanc. The server uncorked it and offered the ceremonial tasting sip. My friend sniffed and sipped like a pro. Then a frown. Uh oh. She passed it to another friend. Same grimace. They tried to pawn it off on me, but my expertise lies in saison not Sauvignon blanc, so I deferred. The server was gracious when we declined the bottle and selected a red. Though, I did note he did not swap out our glassware. Solid spot for a relaxed night and good to know they take customer satisfaction seriously.

In hindsight we should have enlisted the staff’s help, and so we did on a December night. Service was excellent: Alex found wines that were pleasing to our palates. for starters, we wanted a light wine. Alex initially suggested the Pinot Nero – one of us got a glass. However the majority decided on a bottle of the Malizuito which Alex described had a kick to it – a lovely choice to go along with good conversation. Second we requested full-bodied – Alex suggested the Brunello which at first sip had very strong tannins. After Alex decanted the Brunello, it opened up moreso over time. We should have had the proper food pairing to really enjoy the Brunello, but we had just eaten around the corner at Han Dynasty. Next time. On to dessert, the ice cream added a cold element to the surprising and delicious strawberry and balsamic vinegar pairing. I would choose the strawberries over the nutella offering. My friends live just around the corner and will return after this redeeming second time around. We will ask for the staff’s suggestions the next time any of us are there.

Over the years, the east village has been steadily stepping up the food scene. Bar Veloce is a cool little wine bar in the middle of all the action. Great overall liquor selection in addition to the wine. They have a pretty good selection of rums as well as a full bar of other drinks. However, it has the overall feel of a bar trying to be an upscale wine bar without actually being one. Case and point, there’s a small motorcycle/Vespa sitting on the side of the bar for decoration purposes. Bottom line, If you’re in the area, it’s a great place to go to for a large variation of wines and overall top shelf liquors. I’m a big rum drinker and was delighted to see the higher end rum selection they had there. All that being said, I was go for a nicer wine bar in feel and scene if I was actually looking for one.

Veloce means fast or quick, but there is no reason to speed through this winebar, its deep wine list, signature cocktails, small beer list, and its tasty plates and desserts are all reasons to stop. even though Veloce is primarily a wine bar – they have a full bar(or a full-ish bar). other booze and decent selection of Scotch, whiskey, bourbon, etc. Bar Veloce is a spacious layout. seating around all four sides of the central bar. separate high tables and chairs line the left and right, which can comfortably seat 4 – 6 people. evenly spaced, but you’re not on top of one another OR oceans apart from other fellow wine-o’s! the back wall has a giant communal high table. the space is low lit. very modern feel to the space: metal, clean wood, cool tones, backlit wine bottle décor and decorations, etc. yet Veloce does not feel antiseptic or cold just«cool» cozy place to pull closer to your date or have boisterous sophisticated night out with a close group of friends. i go to Veloce a lot. tbh, the service is impeccable. it’s typically two bartenders(Mark and Vince. be nice – theyz cool) and a panini dude who make all the vino, eats, and magic happen front of house. both bartenders are extremely knowledge on wine and booze. don’t be afraid to ask for suggestions… they are great at rec’s. if you are a fan of great reds: try a glass of the PRIMITIVO. it’s an absolutely delicious red wine that you can get by the glass. the jeffe blonde and hoegaarden are my go to beers here. crisp refreshing. and service by the bottle with a glass. no draft taps here. food is definitely small plate-sh and for gnoshing. not for full-on meals. the venetian finger sandwich options are tasty. i’m a fan of the hot panini. – can’t go wrong with the classico; prosciutto di parma; or eggplant sandwiches. the paninis are a mastery of the salty, savory, and cheese creaminess. and Veloce has the most amazing simple shareable dessert: the nutella panino with a giant scoop of vanilla gelato. this dessert is overly plenty for two people, but can be shared by 4 people. this is a great LIGHT dinner option or late night eats. amazingly enough most of the food is made in a panini station within the bar. the panini guy is a magician within this 12 foot space. insane! there are plenty of bathrooms in the corner, so no crazy lines for a place that seats probably can seat 60 – 70 wine goers. like i mentioned before this is a very date-y place, so occasionally you’ll see some canoodling in darkly lit corners. but the other thing to note GENTLEMEN is a lot of femmes come here with other femmes to catch a drink and people watch. it is not unlikely that you can strike up a conversation ‘n’ beyond with said ladies… bring the looks, wit, and charm – game on! trust me you can do eeeet… they have built the bar. all you need to do is show up on a primetime night and be interesting. so yeah, drink responsibly and make good choices, people. :)

We came here for drinks — it was a Thursday night over winter holidays so it was pretty quiet. The décor and bar is really lovely and there’s lots of seating at and around the bar.(I’m not sure why they have a 7 digit combination lock for their bathrooms. Ha.) Our table for dinner at another restaurant came up earlier than we had expected, and the bartender very kindly let us cork and chill the rest of our bottle of wine while we went to eat, so we could come back after dinner and finish it off. I’d come again!

Awesome date spot(noticed a ton of couples) to visit after having dinner on the LES. Grab a glass of wine and dessert. Nice presentation and friendly staff that will let you gab for hours without kicking you out or even hinting that you need to leave– tough to find in the city! We all thought it was cute that the waitstaff dress in suit and ties, fancy! Also they have another location in Beijing, pretty cool.
