Decided to come here for lunch to put these stupid low star mixed reviews to rest. First off, this place is OWNED by the same people as the Ashiya AYCE sushi places. The menu is almost identical. Its $ 33 for all-you-can-eat sushi and all you can drink Sapporo and/or sake included, plus a mandatory 18% service charge(no tipping required). So $ 42 per person after tax. Not bad for Manhattan.(But if you take a train to queens you can find way better deals for AYCE sushi and hot apps) This means on weekend nights, the clientele is going to be drunk young people and its probably going to be loud like any other all-you-can-drink place. During my weekday lunch, this is not the case at all. Service was fast, sushi came out quickly, and I was in and out in under an hour. Sushi quality was above average, but I still like Ashiya better. The taste was pretty good, and the only thing I could really complain about was the presentation not being the best. I recommend trying to spicy eel roll/hand-roll. This place knows its not a high end restaurant and doesn’t pretend it is. Take it from somebody who has been to a LOT of AYCE sushi places, this is a pretty decent place in Midtown.

Your typical all you can eat and drink sushi/sake/beer place in NYC. Pretty big area that’s wide open which is nice and it’s no different than a lot of the other places. Good for huge groups(i was in a group of 8 and there was a party of 25+ in the back as well) and the service is pretty good. They do a good job of bringing out your food and refilling your empty pitchers and sake bottles. Highly recommended…

Idk why people bother writing bad reviews for this place… you come here for one sole purpose at night. get wasted from all you can eat and drink. what did you think was going to happen when you have a bunch of ppl doing sake bombs? no mess? lol

Went here for lunch here a while ago but wasn’t really memorable but wasn’t bad either. Décor: Simple. Nothing too crazy just a place to sit down and casually eat with a friend Staff: Really quiet during lunch hours so not sure how it is during dinner but they were all generally nice and not pushy. Waitress did forget my sauce… Food: Sushi was obviously the best thing about this place. The maki rolls tasted like any other rolls I’ve had. Presentation was fair enough too, if I didn’t have a picture i wouldnt have remembered it. Overall: I would not recommend this place since once again this is a non-memorable place to eat at. But great for working professional who want a quick lunch!

Atoyama is a solid eat-at-your-desk-take-out meal for any working professional in the Midtown Bryant Park area. I primarily love this place for the price and convenience. The food is alright but nothing extraordinary. Came in once for their dine-in and wasn’t too impressed with its lackluster experience. Service is A-OK, food is A-OK everything about this place is pretty much A-OK.

Loud and crowded. Service a bit slow. Food ok. $ 33 all you can eat a little more than it’s worth. Did I mention loud? Also, they gave us styrofoam plates…

i wish i could give this place no stars. the service was so bad, the waitress threw the chopsticks on the table, turned her back while we ordered, everything was dirty and the floor was sticky. disgusting.

Was sat down no problem. Waitress took our drink order right away. She came back to take our orders and the manager near by rudely put her arms in our face telling us we had to move. She grabbed our drinks very suddenly and abruptly and sat us somewhere else. We looked back and they sat another group at the table we were sitting at. Horrible customer service, if they needed us to move they could have handled it a better way. Not fond of the other party either.

Walked in the door at 6:50 and the place was half empty. Woman behind the counter asked if an hour was long enough for my boyfriend and I to dine… I said sure. We get seated at a dirty table and they clean it off. We look over the menu and are ready to order. As our waitress is taking our order another woman that works here walks over and says we need to move tables so another party that just walked in the door can sit there… so we move two tables down. The food was nothing to write home about but did fill me up so I guess it did its job. Food came out quickly but when he brought our food out he stands there and goes«ughhhhhhhh who ordered _____?» Would not return here even if I was starving.

They have an all you can eat and drink special. But I want to note that this is probably more suited for those who want to drink beer and sake bombs and maybe have some sushi. If you can drink a lot, you may be able to make your money back. If you’re here for just sushi, beware. they dont have a sashimi option. And not just that, their sushi wasn’t fresh at all. They overload you with rice as well. Totally got ripped off and over paid for their AYCE option. Again if you come solely to drink, this may be a good deal for you.

I went here with some friends for a birthday celebration. We walked in with the mindset«yeah! Saki bombs and sushi!» Thats exactly what we got– $ 33 for 2 hours of unlimited saki bombs and sushi. Pro to this place is that if you’re looking for a cheap way to drink a lot and make friends with your table neighbors, this is a goodie. However, I wasn’t a fan of the staff. Each one had a sourpuss face, but I guess I can understand that majority of their customers are loud and drunk with spilled beer all over. But still. Now, I don’t each fish so I knew I had to order something different from a fixed sushi/saki menu. I had the main menu in my hands searching for something with chicken, vegetables, etc., until the waitress took it from me. «…alrighty then!» I find out that the main menu was not included with the fixed saki bomb/sushi menu, but I won’t order from the sushi one so mama needs a regular menu! I ask the waitress to get a menu. *queue the most agitated look on waitress* After some confusion they did give me good chicken teriyaki included in the fixed price. Oh yea, invading personal space and rudely reaching over costumers was a thing too since we were seated next to the sushi bar.

Let me start off by saying this place has two stars because of the unlimited beer, saki and(lousy) sushi for $ 33 and it ends there. Walked in to screaming frat boys and girls in mini dresses wearing ponchos.(No it was not raining outside) if you plan on doing the unlimited deal it’s a maximum of 2 hours and then you have to leave. Sat down and looked over the sushi menu and immediately there was a strong bleach smell coming from somewhere. Mmmm nothing like a nice waft of bleach scent to put you in the mood to eat and drink. My one friend doesn’t eat sushi and wanted the regular menu to look at, the waitress rolled her eyes and made it seem like a huge deal it was actually kind of comical. We had a table next to the sushi bar and when dishes were made the waitresses were reaching over our heads/grabbing plates in front of our faces to bring to other tables. Really?! So bizarre and rude. Went with the volcano roll which had spicy shrimp inside topped with salmon and avocado, it wasn’t that great didn’t taste that fresh and the avocado looked off-putting. I had one more roll(the lovers roll) and called it quits for eating and just drank the rest of the night. Bathrooms were also super dirty. Pluses: they continuously bring out booze when you are running low without even asking. Make friends with the tables around you and do saki bombs together and you’ll have a good time. Overall a real dump, but if you’re looking for a cheap place to drink your face off come here.

I just ordered salmon teriyaki bento box lunch special to go. The main dish was great but my salad had a dead bug in it :(

I went there with a coworker for their lunch special. For $ 10.50 it wasn’t too bad. Do you lunch special comes with a salad miso soup and dish of sushi. The tunafish was not that fresh however the salmon was pretty good. I thought the rice had a little too much vinegar in it. I understand that the vinegar helps the rice become sticky. Well I go back again? Probably, with a coworker for lunch.

The location and exterior design makes this place look more like a corner market than anything else but don’t judge this book by its cover. The inside is much nicer and bigger than what the outside might imply. More importantly, the menu was diverse and the food was delicious. Don’t come here for a fancy first date. If, however, you are looking for a cheap-delicious-worth-every-penny eat with friends, this place is a win. I will be coming back here after a long day of shopping with my sibs and girlfriends.

Been eating here multiple times a month for years. Used to be really good. Started to suck like a year ago. Ate less and less. A few months ago ordered eel avocado roll + some other stuff. Worst eel i ever had. Disgusting. Just decided to give it another chance tonight. Wasabi is like chalk, the tuna is stale, and the rolls have become almost half the size they used to be. Goodbye atoyama.

Pretty good spot, its a no frills simple sushi restaurant that I stopped into after having some cravings. Large spot but pretty empty at 7pm. I quickly sat down and my waitress was there in no time. I ordered of course Uni, salmon, eel sushi along with a salmon avocado roll. Everything tasted very fresh and although Ive had better uni it was still very good and prices were affordable. The only problem was that I ordered sushi but was given sashimi. Oh well no big deal I still ate it. Another con was that there was some type of sand or crusty thingg in one part of my uni when i put it in my mouth so unfortunatly have to take a star away. Other than that service was fantastic food was good and fresh despite the minor setback.

This review is based solely on take-out experience. My coworker and I order from here via Seamless often enough to have formed a solid opinion about the food quality. We both get the $ 9.50 for 2 rolls deal — I usually get the spicy tuna and spicy salmon rolls. Comes with miso soup and salad with ginger dressing. It’s a good deal and the delivery is usually quick, even during the lunch rush hour(half hour to 45 mins). My only true complaint is that the ginger comes in one of those pre-packaged plastic containers-makes me feel like I picked up a crappy bento from 7⁄11. The miso eggplant was also not that great, a bit too much marination? Anyway, we will likely order from here to satisfy our sudden sushi cravings during our lazy days.

Wasn’t great, wasn’t bad. Their portions are generous for the price, but long gone are the days when I used to choke quantity over quality. I met a couple of friends in the area and we decided to grab something light before heading to a bar for some after work drinks. I, being the elite, was tasked to choose a place, and Atoyama was not only two blocks away, but it seemed like a good compromise between«salad» and«filling and greasy burger.» The first thing we noticed when we stepped inside was the heat. Stifling. The weather that day was pleasant, so I suppose they didn’t plan on using the AC, but it was really really warm inside. That’s not what you want from a place that stores and prepares raw fish. I ordered the pork katsudon box, and it was a good bang for the buck. Generous portions of katsu, rice, salad, tempura and a California roll. Standard stuff, but it was alright. Everything was cooked the way it was supposed to be cooked, and the seasonings were pretty much on point. Just standard and average food though. I probably won’t return mainly because it’s midtown; take a couple of minutes, and you will find better Japanese restaurants.

Yikes, this place is a disgrace to Japanese cuisine in New York. I came here for dinner with 3 friends around 9 pm and the hostess immediately told us we had to be out of the door at 10:00pm. Despite her rude demeanor, we decided to stay because we were all craving sushi. We sat down and ordered a bevy of rolls from the specials menu. I ordered the«Sex on the Beach» which was 8 pieces($ 14). It was spicy tuna with shrimp tempura wrapped with a rice paper instead of seaweed. It was topped with thin slices of white tuna, eel sauce, and a dot of spicy mayo. Flavor-wise, it was decent sushi. I thought it was better with a sliver of ginger and soy sauce. We also asked for spicy mayo and were charged extra for it. I really don’t understand why… charging for spicy mayo is like charging for soy sauce. Ridiculous! My friend’s order of special rolls were accompanied by lettuce which was very strange. Lettuce is a very strange texture to have in sushi and I don’t think they enjoyed it. We were also served our food at 9:45 which meant we had to scarf down our food and ask for the check in order to be out at there at 10:00, as per their request(more like a demand…). Overall, not a great experience. I wouldn’t return here.
