Been going to Angelica for decades now. Recommended by my bro who once lived in the area, East Village. It was the best herb place. First used the herbs to quit smoking – detox tea. Stuff tasted awful but it did the job! Was done for 5 years but I did go back to smoking and I went back to Angelica’s and got the detox again. it’s been 15 years, I’m off smoking forever! Was sad when she went to Brooklyn, it was so out of the way, though I did go out to her once again for a body cleanse/detox and that was wonderful. I dropped weight, my G.I. tract was in good shape, and I was clean eating for several years. People who think she’s rude are wrong. She is busy, no nonsense and has a strong accent, besides a wealth of herbal knowledge you can’t find in this city. I will always be thankful for directions & herbs she gave me on cleansing my system and taking better care.

It makes me very sad this place is closed. I had a digestive problem so bad I had to see a radiologist, and nothing they did helped. She mixed me a tea, but it had to be boiled every day and even though my roommate recommended her, it made the house smell SOOO bad, and I HATE hibiscus, and I’m very impatient. So she gave me something that would work faster and it cured my problem. I like freaky witch women. People said the teas worked best because she mixed them herself. She was very nice to me and told me she wanted to see how I was doing later in life. I was twenty two. Seven years later, I’m doing very, very well.

Just spoke to Chantal. She said there’s no longer at a shop in Brooklyn or otherwise. She’s is willing to meet or consult over the phone.

Just wondering about the latest review posted. If I’m thinking of the same place, it is no longer open, at least at the corner of 9th Street and First Avenue. Perhaps she relocated?

Rudeness is non-gender specific. It is a shame she loses a lot of potential customers because she treats people that way. I am just a potential customer who was turned off by a seemingly arrogant business person who seems not to know basic customer service. More power to people who patronize a business which I think is sub-par when it comes to basic, customer service.

The owner is a crazy French freak of a women — but she is, extremely knowledgable as an herbologist. She also carries a vast selection of herbs and essential oils — plus fabulous books(many are old). Bring cash — she doesn’t like credit cards. Oh — and don’t take any notes or pictures. She’ll freak out even worse than usual.

I have to give this place 2 stars because they do have every herb under the sun, and their owner is definitely knowledgeable, and that’s a hard combo to find in an actual physical store(not online) in Manhattan. That said, the owner, who is the only one I’ve ever encountered there, is bizarrely awful. She comes across as cold, mean, condescending, and it is definitely not fun to go there at all. And I’ve heard the same from everyone I’ve ever known who has gone there, over about 15 years now. It’s really strange that a place supposedly dedicated to health and healing would have such a toxic atmosphere.

I posted this review awhile ago and find it interesting that it is no longer there. I had a horrible experience at this herb shop, the owners and/or staff were defensive and rude, refusing to weigh out and separate the herbs I just purchased claiming they were so incredibly busy they didn’t have time even though the entire place was empty. Flower Power is just down the street with fresher herbs and much better customer service and I will never go to Angelica again to purchase herbs for my patients.

Outstanding place for anything herbal. Like tea? Angelica’s has a wide selection. Dried herbs, fresh ones for all kinds of uses; they also have some incenses that are not too bad. Highly recommend it!
