I went for a full body cancer screening and had some things in mind that I wanted looked at, including a black spot on a toenail that wasn’t going away. I was placed in a waiting room. He came in and I was fully clothed and in long sleeves. He asked me to lift up my top, essentially flashing him, which felt pretty odd and uncomfortable, and downright creepy. He looked quickly at my front and back, checked as far as I could roll up my sleeves and that was it. I was so discombobulated by that awkward exam that I forgot about the toenail.
Usually a full body cancer screen entails wearing a gown and having your whole body checked.
He also gave me an RX for some cream for some discoloration on my face and the office staff said she couldn’t call it in because it was over the counter. I informed her, after looking it up, that it is RX only and had to argue with her until she left for lunch and the woman who took her place checked with MD and called in my rx. They also only take cash or checks for copayment, which I didn’t have so had to go find an ATM and come back.Ugh. Needless to say, I’m not going back there and would not refer anyone there. I have another appt elsewhere to have my toenail checked and hopefully a proper body check with a female derm.

I don’t know why some people have bad reviews here. I went to 4 doctors who could not properly diagnose and fix my problem before getting to this Doctor. I never experienced an issue with waiting a long time at the office or appointment difficulties with the office staff. Everyone was nice and professional. I went to this Doctor several times over the course of a year and only had good experiences. He was able to resolve my issue when others could not. Great doctor. Great bedside manner.

A superb dermatologist who does not waste time-​he is focused, professional and gets right to business.
I treated with him several times in 2011 when he removed a cyst from my back and some dark skin tags. There was a minor bleeding complication with the cyst (I had taken aspirin the night before having forgotten his direction «no aspirin 48 hours prior to the surgery»); he did not leave me until the bleeding had stopped and he knew I would be ok.
This is probably the reason he runs late. he gives each patient the time they need.
I visited him for an annual checkup this week. His waiting room was full and, yes, he was running about 30 minutes late. I want a doctor with a full waiting room who gives each patient the time they need, don’t you?
Dr Woolrich is one of the really good, dedicated doctors out there.

Horrible experience with this doctor. After reading reviews of how patients are put in the waiting room for up to an hour to see the doctor, I went reluctantly anyway since my eczema was acting up and I needed to see someone in the area. Low and behold, I had to wait for an hour before seeing him. When I did, the doctor spent less than a minute with me. I told him the prescription I’ve been using and informed him that it had been working so he agreed to write me another one. What I didn’t realize is that he wrote me a prescription for the tiniest amount of the cream I needed (guessing he just wanted me to come back in for a refill ASAP and pay for another visit).
In addition, you are not allowed to make any payments online or over the phone so admittedly, I took a while before I finally went in to make the payment. Office was closed… so eventually the office sent me over to collections… and the bill was arbitrarily increased by $ 30. In the end, I really did not want to deal with the hassle so ended up paying the additional $ 30 that seemed to come out of nowhere. Definitely will not be going in again and will advise others to avoid this office!!!

I just wasted 4 hours of my life…
After an hour of researching well reviewed dermatologists in NYC who would take our insurance, we decided on Dr. Andrew Woolrich, MD for a full-​scan appointment.
This afternoon I took off work and rode the 3 trains for an hour and a half to get in to his office. Unfortunately the last subway wound up delayed in the tunnel. I couldn’t call the office, but ran to get there arriving 20 minutes late for my 2:20pm appointment… which they cancelled because «it was now too late in the day and the doctor has another procedure so he’ll have to reschedule for another day.»
Yes, it is my fault that I didn’t leave work another earlier to make more of a buffer, and no it is not the doctors fault that I was late. But cancelling after just 20 minutes?! In the middle of the day? I explained to the secretary that I had a 3 hour trip for the sake of the appointment, but she really didn’t seem to care. They certainly weren’t in any way apologetic.
I can’t comment on Dr. Woolrich’s actual competence or manner, because I’ve never even met the man. He didn’t even have the decency to ask his receptionist to ask me to wait so that he could come out for 2 minutes to apologize for the inconvenience or to find out if I had some sort of emergency.
He may /​may not be a wonderful doctor, but definitely a fail at customer service.
I won’t be going back. ever.

I see many not so great reviews for Dr. Woolrich. I can understand why, but he really is a smart man! He helped me out a lot. I went through 10 different doctors and he fixed me. I am willing to wait 30 – 60 minutes to see him. It is because he takes his time with his patients. The staff is great as well.

I have been a patient of Dr Woolrich for 10 years – I see him once a year for a check up. Each year he runs later and later on his appts. This past checkup, I waited over 1 hour. I was so angry when he showed up that I barely spoke to him. And he did not offer an apology for his lateness. There is no excuse for disrespecting people’s time. And the arrogance of not apologizing for that is simply unacceptable. Too many other options. A medical practice is a business and needs to be run with an acceptable level of customer service. That means being organized in scheduling your appts.

Great dermatologist. The office staff actually calls the day before to remind you of your appointment. That’s a good indication the staff has their stuff in order.
Dr. Woolrich knows his stuff, treats you effectively and has a great bedside manner. His appointments are usually running late, but its worth it to see a doctor that I trust and gives you real answers. He treated my boyfriend too. We both love Dr. Woolrich!
