Visited during Superbowl 50. Friendly straff and good atmosphere! Stayed in the bar all time but there were alot of space and good views of telly to watch the game. Had a couple of cocktails that were okey. Overall good place, would recommend if you’d like to match some game and so on, but it is quite high volume, at least today so if you like to chat in a big group that could be a challange :)

First time I came here was a good time. I Came here to meet with two of my guys friends because we all love whiskey and some sliders and everything was to the T. Although their prices are a bit pricey, it was worth it in the end. If come here to meet with someone to talk about businesss. Don’t do it here because it’s a bit loud, but I managed. It says they have WiFi, but the area that I was in didn’t have great reception to their WiFi even with the password the server gave to me. So just careful if you plan on needing WiFi. Other than that everything was good as far as service. I didn’t really eat dinner here since I stayed for about an hour.

Very friendly staff and always a great time! Excellent food! Pulled Chicken sliders and the tots are so yummy! Great place to watch sports. You can always see a tv no matter where you are sitting.

I feel like this place is more of a 3.5 than a 3, but seeing as I’m in the area all the time and American Whiskey never crosses my mind to revisit, there’s definitely nothing special going on here to bump it up a notch. The first time I came here, it was definitely a new place, and you could tell. Very clean, but also kind of looked like the whole interior had come out of a how-to-be-a-hipster magazine article. I was actually kind of charmed by it, because it was a comfortable and clean bar in an area that doesn’t have a lot of those. But, the beer selection was pretty uninspired(they have some of the big-name crafts… think Magic Hat and Ithaca), but nothing that I’d never tried before. That probably shouldn’t be too surprising to me… they call themselves American Whiskey, so they probably cater more to the whiskey crowd. I did see what looked like an excellent whiskey selection behind the bar, but as a non-whiskey drinker(I like my liquors clear, please), I can’t really judge it. Prices are definitely pretty steep, but again, pretty consistent with the neighborhood. Every time I’ve visited, it’s easy to find a seat, but I can imagine it getting decently crowded after an event at MSG or when there’s a game on TV. I’d certainly give this place a few more shots if I ever remember, but the fact that it never seems to stick in my mind puts it solidly at an average, 3-star territory for me.

re tater tots MAKESURE you tell them to put the hot gravy on top of the cheese curds on a separate bowl dip your tots into the gravy the happy smothering weakens the crunchiness — so dipping is better

Stopped in for a «warm me up» on a cold New York night. I tried s specialty drink, then asked for the bartender to surprise me with a nice scotch. Knowing nothing about me, he poured my favorite :)

Stopped into this place on a whim, and I am so glad I did. This place has a great selection of bourbon and some terrific cocktails. I did not order food, but the menu had some interesting options. If you’re a sports fan, this place has TONS of TVs to watch any game you want. I will definitely come back again, but I will probably wait until after football season.

Wanted to just relax at the bar before heading to a concert at MSG. Unfortunately(good for them!) this place was slammed by 5pm and we had to stand at the end of the bar while we hung out. We ordered a flight of whiskey, wine, and 2 appetizers. Everything was delicious. The food was amazing! We were literally moaning with every bite. We got the Lamb Lollipops and the Tator Tot Poutine. Soooo good!!! I definitely plan on coming back before the next event I go to at MSG!

Finding solid bars by Penn Station is always a challenge. When I met my friend at American Whiskey I was pleasantly shocked to see how great American Whiskey was! Obviously this bar caters more to whiskey fans, but the waitress and I got along great and she kept my vodka soda’s rolling all night. This will definitely be one of my go-to spots the next time I need a spot by Penn Station.

I came here before a show at MSG with a friend. Made reservations just in case because we needed to be there relatively on time. When I arrived at 6 on a Saturday night the place wasn’t crowded at all. Not too surprising because it was early, but also a little bit because I figured this would be a place that a lot of people would go before a show. It’s really close to MSG and there were no tourists in sight. The place is a little generic looking, but not in an unpleasant sort of way, there just isn’t a lot of personality. They have a decent beer list(theres something for everyone) and as the name suggests there is an extensive whiskey list. The food options are meat heavy, so this is not a great place to bring a vegetarian friend. I made the mistake of not looking at the menu before choosing the place and I my friend who is a vegetarian had very limited options(As in there were like 3 options, 2 of which were sides). We weren’t super hungry so we both got a beer and an order of fries and I got the beef brisket slider. The amount of fries they give you is huge, we could have gotten one order and been more than satisfied. I ended up giving half my order to a homeless guy because I didn’t feel right throwing away that much food. The beef brisket slider was delicious and I wish I’d gotten 2, or the regular size burger just because it was so good. Juicy, cooked perfectly, with simple toppings, the meat was the star and it was so so good. I might be back to catch a Cavs game or something like that but I’m not entirely sure. I don’t find myself near MSG very often and would likely not go out of my way to go there.

Said they had no ice… said the register was cashed out… it was 30 minutes before closing… For the record what I wanted required no ice and I wanted to use a card. The selection is very sound and the prices are fair and the food is tasty. Might want to go on a slow night.

*This is a bar-based post only. As good as the menu looked, it was too early to eat and we had more stops to make.* I appreciate a good bartender. Mostly because I think of myself as a pretty good bartender, but that’s neither here nor there. I didn’t write the names down(I think one was a Jason or James?), but the two guys behind the bar on our visit were great. They knew how to work around each other, paid attention to conversations when not engaged and we’re still able to jump in, and both guys knew what they were talking about when it came to cocktails. Pricing is fair for NYC, and I’m pretty sure there was a happy hour effect somewhere. The alcohol selection is very well ranged, and they didn’t try and turn every cocktail into a mixologist’s wet dream. Given the proximity to the Garden, I’m not sure if I’d want to come in after the start of a game night, but I’d imagine you could get a good seat at the bar a half hour or more ahead of the puck drop.

Stopped by American Whiskey for an after work drink. The bar was only semi crowded and the bartender was on the slow side when it came to bringing menus and drinks. I didn’t try the food, but the options looked amazing. I’m definitely ordering the tater tots next time I find myself at American Whiskey.

Pretty nice bar with plenty of televisions to catch your sports, Our waitress Kate was absolutely amazing(minus the fact that she’s from South Jersey) and attentive. She knew our drinks and kept them coming. Met the owner of the bar, Robbie and he was a gracious host. He sat down and chatted with us. He even threw in some drinks on the house!

Aside from being a Unilocal Elite NYC Member, I also am a real person and work at a financial services firm. Part of my job there is to organize a happy hour every month as I am the #socialchair of our analyst program. It can be really difficult to find a bar with the following key attributes for a successful post-work happy hour: 1. Happy hour specials 2. Reasonable proximity to office and transportation and 3. a good crowd that avoid the tourists/bridge & tunnel folk that tend to flock towards many midtown bars. After a recent happy hour at this establishment, I think it’s safe to say that this place has achieved all three of those requirements. I have actually been here before, and wasn’t 100% thrilled with the attitude of our bartender and food, but I decided to give this place another shot before writing a review and am glad I did as I probably would have given this place a 3 star rating based on the other experience. We were early enough that we secured a spot at the upstairs balcony bar so our entire party had our own bar and bartender for the entire night. They have great happy hour specials including $ 4 bud, $ 5 shock top, $ 6 house wine and $ 8 cocktails all the way until 8:00PM. This place is a bit off the midtown-beaten-path and I think is a bit under the radar as well, so you avoid the rogue crowd that all other midtown bars are plagued with. Overall, definitely recommend this place for a company get together and post-work drinks. It was also a lot of fun to watch the women’s world cup match here a few weeks back.

Went there for a vendor event yesterday hosted by my SO’s acquaintances after work. We arrived at around 6 and was taken upstairs where the private event was being held. The bartenders aren’t that friendly but the waitresses seemed attentive enough in trying to bring around drinks for those who were sitting at tables. The food sucked — I mean. I’m sure the event was fairly paid for, but the«snacking area» was more or less lunchables. LUNCHABLES. They’re fun to eat when you’re the one taking it out of the package and eating it on a school bus or at Central Park but. seriously? Disappointed. The drinks were made okay — mixology we requested was a bare minimum, so I’m not sure about their expertise but given their name, they damn better be good at making some tasty old fashioneds and moscow mules. The venue itself was way too dark — I like dark. but I’d like to be able to peer into my bag and not look into a gaping black hole that seems to be part of a bigger black hole. The place was PACKED by 7pm — hump-day’s everyone’s favorite day for a good whiskey, but this wouldn’t be my first, second, or even third choice, even if I were in the neighborhood. The place looks better from the outside than in. There’s tables towards the back for food — can’t comment as to menu food but again, lunchables was a shocker.

Stumbled in here for a later dinner after meeting up with some friends. I really liked this Unilocal-assisted find! Since it was later in the evening, it was nice and dim with some fun tunes bumping. We were promptly seated at a table and given menus to look over. I was excited for some small bites and ordered a sweetbread slider and the tater tot poutine. I really loved the tater tot poutine and the curds were plentiful on it. It was quite a huge serving and I shared it with my group. The sweetbread slider was delicious as it was nice and crispy with delicious vinegar slaw. Service was decent, and we always had our water glasses refilled. I enjoyed the ambiance and I also really dug that the prices were not too outrageous

Stopped by last night to kick it with DeShaun, Lama and Sabrina. It was pretty packed. Seemingly popular spot for post work crowd. Tons of suits in huge groups. The whole place cleared out less than 2 hrs later. Totally loved the ambiance. Very relaxed and open. Bar has an absolutely massive tv that I’m sure attracts tons for game days. We ended up getting seated towards the back where it was a little more quiet. Awesome. Service was pretty horrid. We had to flag the waitress multiple times or ask a different one to get her. Meh. I ordered a ‘nice pants’(encanto pisco, amaro montenegro, mango, lime, cane syrup, angostura and peychauds bitters). This was nice and fruity but very syrupy. We ordered the poutine tots to start which ended up being served lukewarm with the cheese curds on top still cold. We sent it back and received the second round with hot tots but curds just warm. Tots were crispy and good. There wasn’t enough gravy though. I ordered two sliders — moroccan lamb and po boy. The lamb was pretty good. Seasoned nicely, very juicy and tender between a soft, fluffy bun. The po boy wasn’t as memorable. Bland. The bun was also tough and chewy. Wish I had ordered the brisket slider instead — Sabrina said it was quite good. A bunch of hit and misses. Not memorable enough for a return trip though.

American Whiskey is a fairly new bar/restaurant that’s located near Penn Station. I came here because I saw they had poutine, which is hard to find in New York, and decent reviews. Their poutine piqued my interest because the it’s made with tater tots instead of the traditional french fries, and I’m always down for anything with tater tots. The poutine was a disappointment, to say the least. The cheese curds were firm and not melted at all, and there wasn’t enough gravy. As a result, I mostly just tasted the oiliness of the tater tots. Also, while I was waiting for my food, the server handed me a glass of water which still had traces of Long Island iced tea, presumably from the night before. Not the best first impression.

My girls and I had a great time here on a Friday Happy Hour. Still looking pretty new, the décor reminds me of a backyard fancied by lite-up by candles on a relaxing summer night. My girls each got a glass of wine with various appetizers and from there, we got lost in our stories and laughter. We were deeply impressed with our wine. They have a wide variety of reds, whites, and roses. Our party of five shared French Fries, Smoked Wings, Tator Tots, Mini Po’ Boy Sliders, Chicken Skewers, and Beef Brisket Sliders. The portions of the fries and tator tors came in huge and deep paper take-out containers. It was a large portion more than enough to go around. French fries are the regular nice and crispy crinkled fries. Tator tots were topped with a bit of cheese and greens to help with its appeal. Smoked wings were just okay but my friend said it best to sum it up, ‘is this wing trying to be smoky or spicy?’. Texture was tender on the inside though. We thought the Po’ Boy is going to just come in a lonely piece of oyster but to our surprised, it was in between buttery sweet buns. Beef Brisket Burger patty was thick and juicy. The added American Cheese was the perfect finishing touch. This spacious space and beautiful indoor décor added to the relaxing atmosphere. After my first glass of appetizer wine, I like my cocktail to accompany my dinner and this space helps with that! There are a huge section of wines, beers, cocktails, and hard liquor shots for everyone to choose from. Perfect place for Happy Hour, girls hang out, or on a date!
