My 9 year old was introduced to AG when she was 5. We got her a bitty baby when she was 6, and the Truly me when she was 8. The store is very nice, and the staff is extremely helpful. We tried personal shopper once, and it was great. The Hair salon is great… I wish it will take reservation also like the café and personal shopper. Yes, the price is high, but if you know it, then you won’t be shocked. My complain is about some grandmas who thought they are so good to treat their granddaughters. I have encountered numerous arrogant grandmas there. I wish these grandmas are better behaved!!!

This place is awesome! I’ve visited a few times and each time I have found he staff kind and helpful. The selection of merchandise is amazing, they have seemingly thought of just about everything including the ability to have afternoon tea with my daughter.

I took my daughter here to celebrate her birthday and we all had such a wonderful time. We enjoyed seeing the doll displays and the clothes. Wen we go back we have to try the café upstairs. There are three levels of different kinds of dolls. I felt like a kid again. One of my favorite things was the mini doll display. The staff was friendly and made suggestions.

My first time at American Girl Doll Store and highly disappointed. We couldn’t find her size(7) in anything! A lot of the girls outfits were not exact matches of the dolls(example the dolls outfit came with tutu but the girls outfit the tutu was not even offered). At these prices I expect it to be perfect matches and all sizes available. I will not be back as I will purchase the less expensive versions from toys r us.

Four stories of American girl? Maybe three? Lots of stories where you can purchase overpriced dolls and every accessory known to man to go with them. My two daughters love this place and once you make the mistake of letting them look at the catalog it’s all downhill! So over $ 300 later we are out the door with two dolls and no accessories because who can afford accessories after you buy the dolls? But apparently A lot of people can because the store was packed, you have to have a reservation to eat at the café say you can’t just walk in. But it’s very cute and well done and an experience to say the least!

It’s classy and a super popular stop on 5th Avenue amongst young girls, who have an immense love for the American Girl Doll. I am not sure about your little girl, but my girl was in awe of this store. I have never been to an American Girl store until we visited this one in NYC. Yes, it was an experience! Each floor presented something different and very engaging for each child that came to visit. As a visiting adult, I was still highly impressed of the displays. It was so stinkin’ cute and my kid loved every bit of it. We visited NYC during the week of NYE and every tourist spot was packed with people, but I did not let this ruin our experience with the limited things we were able to to do. My daughter has been an American Girl owner for a year now and enjoys the doll, books and movies. I think she is secretly plotting to one day become an American Girl model. I loved the floor that showed the dolls dressed in particular decade fashion(ie: ‘40s’, ‘60s, ‘70s, etc.). There was even a salon for the dolls to get all dolled up and a café to enjoy tea, lunch and/or dinner with their doll(reservations required). Of course this is a highly commercialized stop in NYC, but if you kiddo is a fan, you have to plan a visit. Trust me, this could be an entire day’s visit, if you decide to do all the activities they offer with your child and their doll. Super cute and the best part is seeing the look on your child’s face as they stare in awe and amazement.

It’s the Holiday Season. They’re only human I know. As a parent, if you e battled the crowds to give your child an experience(an expensive experience I might add) then I don’t think it’s unreasonable for them to deliver. Made an appointment for the doll salon. Arrived on time. 45 minutes to closing. The first clerk was nice but brusque(you can’t have that hairstyle, that takes 30 minutes and you only booked 15 minutes). Then she plopped the Doll onto a salon chair and kept overshooting her hairline and scraping Jess’ face. My daughter winced every time. She brushed the doll’s hair with such ferocity that afterwards we noticed her head was loose with stuffing peeking out from the neck. My daughter was upset because she takes care of her Jess. The actual hairdresser, Maria, was very kind and chatty. Explaining what she was doing and complimenting my child on the care she took of her doll. Maria was outstanding. Overall, the experience was ok but I’m fuming that the first person damaged my daughter’s beloved Jess. I bought her a new dress that covers the neck to distract my daughter from the damage but we both know that even though Jess’ hair looks great, she was better off before we sat her in that chair.

If you needed to imagine what hell is like… go to this place around New Years with thousands of moms, dads and little girls so packed into the store arguing over which $ 120 doll they want to buy. Shivers.

When my daughter told me she wanted an American Girl doll for the holidays, I cringed. I knew this would be a very painful and expensive experience. We decided to make a morning of our adventure at American Girl(please see review of the café). We bough the dolls in advance(thank you 15% off for online purchase) and we went to the store for clothing and accessories. Lunatic asylum would be a pretty accurate description. The store is laid out fairly well. Clothing and accessories are well organized with dolls sprinkled through out the store. Where this store loses points with me is customer service. Some of the staff is wonderful, friendly and accommodating. Others, well the job is clearly getting in the way of their social life. Paint you a picture — A week before Christmas, tons of adults and kids waiting on line(register, coat check, guest services), people with heavy coats in a very warm store, cranky and frustrated only to get close enough to the staff to hear them discussing their Saturday night plans and moving extremely slowly or not moving at all. UNACCEPTABLE! This store also attracts a large amount of tourists — who clearly have never seen an escalator before. They get to the escalator, and then stop. Just stand their staring at it. Then the crowd builds behind them… It would be smart to have staff by the escalators directing traffic and keeping it moving. If I never went back to this store, I would be thrilled. Somehow, I don’t think I will be so lucky…

I’m not the one who should be reviewing this. But, since I’m the one with the Unilocal account, it’s up to me. Usually when I go into an American Girl doll store, they hand me the big bag for you to fill. In turn, I typically take out my wallet and hand it to the person handing me the bag. I feel like it’s a pretty fair exchange when you walk into that place. One time, I believe I literally felt the pocket area of where my wallet was located actually heat up while I entered the store. True story. I’ve been to a few locations and this one was a little different. This one was much bigger. If I remember correctly, because it was all a pink blur, there were four levels. It had the café, it had the beauty parlor, and it had all the other things you can expect from an American Girl doll store. This truly is a little girl’s dream. Unfortunately, I have two little girls so it doubles what is a dads worst nightmare. I’ve been thinking of opening a chain of bars called, American Dad store. I’m going to situate the location directly next to any American Girl doll store. There’s no reason for a dad to be in the American Girl doll store. Hand over your credit card and walk over to American Dad store. Get yourself a comfortable chair and plan to be there for about an hour to two hours. I honestly believe I would make almost a third of what the American Girl doll store pulls in. In fact, the American Girl doll store would make themselves an even bigger fortune if they opened a bar for the dads right next door to each location and offered free drinks for the dads. You think they’ll lose any money? Think about it, if the dad is in the bar having drinks, he’s not in the store trying to get mom and the kids out. Makes sense to me. That’s just good business. Would I go back? I sure as hell hope not but, in cases like these, it’s not up to me. Not one bit. The wife and kids loved it. Can’t complain about that.

First time here and my mind was blown. We sure have come a long way from cabbage patch kids. There is everything imaginable here. Its as if they had kids brainstorm the endless possibilities that make this place magical. Each floor surprises you with something different. Babies, identical and fraternal asian babies, native american girls, disabled dolls, endless varieties of clothes and accessories you can imagine. Even the bathrooms are thoughtful with handles to hold your doll in each bathroom stall and near the hand dryers. Bananas. Just when you are thinking you have seen everything, the 3rd floor blows your mind with the hair salon. I mean, a real hair salon where people place your doll in a salon chair, place a drape over your doll and comb and fix their hair right in front of you. There is even a hospital admissions area where you can take your doll to get fixed. When your barbie’s arm broke off, that was it. Here, at least you know your hard earned money isn’t totally going to waste as these dolls can be repaired. I’m sure for a pretty penny, but that’s just amazing that there is the option and in such a cool way. I don’t have a kid, but I have to say this place scares me. Its too freakin’ crazy how they have thought of everything. If I were a kid, I would want this whole store. Parents have got to go broke over this phenomena. It is serious. You are warned.

The restaurant was overpriced and the food was terrible. We got cinnamon rolls without icing. the next course consisted of hard pretzel sticks that you couldn’t even bite. The pigs in a biscuit had two dime size slivers of hot dogs inside of them. And then there were some raw carrots and broccoli. Then my girls got the chicken tenders and fries. There were two small pieces of chicken and They were just average. I got the Asian chicken salad that had very few chicken cubes in mostly lettuce. Then came the cupcake and chocolate mousse. The mousse looked like it had been sitting in the cup since the morning. This meal cost me $ 125 for four of us and was definitely not worth that kind of money for this quality of food. The bathroom smelled of old urine and our shoes stuck to the floor in the dining room. Very unsatisfied!!! The next time I will NOT be eating there.

A very cool experience for girls who love American girls. My 9 year old was thrilled to actually touch and inspect clothes, accessories and sets. There are many things that are over priced and honestly aren’t worth it. Still, every little girl should have this experience once. The hair salon is a great spot for dolls that have used and abused hair. They will restore the locks and style it to your child’s liking.

Such a great experience at American Girl store this weekend! My husband(!), sister-in-law and I took our two 10 year old nieces(for their birthdays) and our 2 year old to the 4:00 tea(I had made reservations a while ago). The space itself was adorable(think black and white stripped walls, pink everything else) and I thought it was adorable that the lent my 2 year old a doll(with her own high chair) since she didn’t have one of her own. The server(Rey) was so great, energetic and enthusiastic. The food itself was fine(little sandwiches, fruit, mini hotdogs) but what I LOVED was the fact they served adult beverages(at an additional cost of course!) My ordered champagne(well-priced at $ 9) and the hubs got a beer. There was a separate dessert at the end(little chocolate mousses served in flower pots!) that was delish. They even sang happy birthday to the girls. My expectations were totally exceeded. Were it not for the $ 200 bill(!), we would be making plans to come back soon! In all, a really fun, special treat that was just as much fun for the kiddos as it was for the adults!

I’ll admit I was skeptical about my niece’s 6th birthday party at the American Girl New York store, but this was a truly magical day! We started with a lovely lunch in the Daisy Room, served by incredibly professional staff. The first two courses are shared table appetizers. I loved the cinnamon buns… warm, gooey and delicious. And the veggie/pretzel plate that followed was also quite nice. For my entrée, I opted for the chicken tenders and switched out the mac & cheese for French fries. And dessert was birthday cake with ice cream. Following the meal, we were assigned a personal shopper who brought us to a comfortable room on the second floor where different options were presented based on what my niece was looking to add to her collection. Since the store is so overwhelming, this really helped narrow down the choices. To end the day, we visited the hair salon and Isabelle, the doll, received a new braid and tiara to join in the birthday celebrations. All in all, everyone at the store/restaurant was very friendly and professional, and my niece had a wonderful day!

Vanessa. Or at least, I think that’s her name. She’s in the hair salon. She is truly one of a kind. If your daughter /niece /little sister whomever wants to get her girl’s hair done right, go to Vanessa. There’s a lot to keeping these dolls’ hair nice and pretty, and boy does she know what she’s doing. My little cousin had her doll for a whole one week before the hair got incredibly tangled, and Vanessa managed to find time to squeeze us in to her busy schedule. She was kind, generous, and sweet to my little cousin — exactly what she needed.

I friggin love this store! Ok yes coming from a person that played with Barbie for an undisclosed embarrassing age, I am slightly biased. If you plan to patronize the doll hair salon, I strongly suggest going there are soon as you walk in the door to make an appointment, as the wait time can be long during peak days. AG has everything to give a doll«the good life» but of course at a price. The hospital takes care of her bumps and bruises. The salon pampers her with cucumbers on her eyes, and reasonably priced hair styles. The restrooms provide holders so she can patiently wait while you tinkle. Oh let’s not forget about the photo studio. Every girl loves the paparazzi. This is loads of fun for little girls and adults that enjoy reliving their childhood *guilty*. If you can afford it, go ahead and splurge you only live once.

The store is impeccably clean, well-stocked, with very helpful and accommodating staff. Price point is the bugger here. The accessories and clothing, IMO, are better quality than the dolls themselves. The quality of the hair, at that price, just seems like a great way to make sure you come back in to pay for their styling services. I mean, the first thing the woman said when we made an appointment for my niece to get her doll made was, «You know it’s best to keep her hair braided if you’re not going to keep her on display.» These are supposed to be dolls for children who will want to play with them! *shufflin’ down from that soap box before I get started* For what it is, if you’re looking for an experience for your child, and are willing to shell out the cash? Your child is likely to be very pleased with what you gift them. I, however, can only give them kudos for the lovely service and presentation you offer, and for having a wheelchair accessory option, to help out handicapable lovies feel included. However, I just can’t back the product or brand.

«So daddy why are all the American Girl(AG) dolls made in China»? Asked my 6 ¾(as she regularly corrects me when I say that she is 6.5 years old) year old going on 30. «So that the dolls only cost a small fortune instead of a large fortune» I replied. And thus our half day at the lavish temple of overpriced toys began… Endless floors of wall to wall dolls and accessories. You name it they have it. Clothes for the dolls cost as much as much as clothes for those buying the dolls. There’s even a café so that you can spend any remaining money at AG instead of trying to find $ 2 street meat because that’s all the dough that’s left. But wait there’s more. Just when you thought that matching doll and kid clothes were ridiculous enough, there’s even a hair salon for you guessed it: the dolls. Both kid and doll can have heir hair done simultaneously. I dared not ask what the«experience» cost. So why the five stars you may be asking yourself right about now? If your kid doesn’t have a highly accessorized AG doll and wants one, reallocate the monthly mortgage and soak-in the loving look on their cherubim faces when you give them what they desire.
