I made reservations for a party of 12– for 7:30PM, First the back room was not set up properly, an additional table was cornered and they tried to fit in other people. It was extremely awkward. Ordering was another problem — They ran out of chicken wings after one order… The over priced drinks were not good. The waiters(3) of them for the entire place was not trained properly, Dinner came in in two’s had guest who ate walked out to smoke, while others waited for their food. It was not the experience I was assured I would have. A complete utter disappointment. Overpriced, Service was very dissapointing.

Here comes another review from my lunch special expedition on Christopher Street. This place is located right next to PATH’s Christopher Street station entrance/exit. I must have walked past this place way too many time to even think of trying this place out. Well, one day, me and my two other friends wanted to have sushi for lunch, and this place came up on Unilocal. We always proceed with precaution with a fusion restaurant. Turned out this place was great. Lunch special was well priced considering the amount of salad, soup and entrée you get for $ 10-$ 13. They also offer happy hour with beer on tap for $ 4! Tangerine Chicken was crispy and tasty. Pepper Steak and Mango Chicken were good as well. Sushi and Sashimi lunch special were amazing, especially the Sashimi. I was quite impressed with the plating and garnishing. Fish was never fishy and perfectly sliced. Spicy Sichuan Wontons are a must try. Servers were attentive. Too bad Southamptom beer was no longer available. ;(Anyway, I can’t wait to come back again.

I’ve never been here — only the upper east side restaurant. Mistakenly wrote a review for this restaurant and Unilocal won’t let me delete it. If its like its sister restaurant its a good value play — good food, low prices

Wish I could give them minus stars. This has been my go to sushi spot for takeaway and am finally done with the terrible customer service — it’s time to move on. Worst experience I’ve ever had customer service wise. I ordered lunch today and ordered mixed vegetable roll, what I got was a deep fried vegetable spring roll. I called to ask could they send me a sushi roll instead and the woman on the phone laughed at me and told me it was my mistake and to order again and pay for it if I wanted something different… I told her it was a mistake and needed to be rectified and she just told me it wasn’t her mistake and I would have to reorder. At the end of the exchange I told her this was the worst customer service I had ever experienced, she honestly could not have cared less. I will never be giving them my business again!

Came here for lunch. Ambiance is great, with deceptively plenty of light despite what the photos might depict. We sat at a table next to the large windows at the front. Service was prompt and helpful. We ordered rolls and sashimi. Both came relatively quickly. The sashimi — the lunch special — was a generous helping of radishes, rice, and fish. The tuna and salmon were especially exceptional, with just the right consistency and flavor you’d expect. The cut of the sashimi — while very pretty — was a little weird, and definitely came off a little funny when you’re eating it. Nevertheless, for a nice lunch sushi, I’d definitely come back.

I celebrated my birthday at Amber West, and it was impeccably great. One thing that bothered was that it was very busy that day and there was a line to the bathroom. Otherwise, The manager and the crew there, are all very attentive. They prepared the back of the restaurant and it was ready for the party. There is a huge statue of the Buddah, which I loved. Sushi here is delish. Im Chelsea Roll fun, it’s shrimp tempura with avo. Also sushi entrée for 2 is an entrée that comes with best selection, absolutely filling. That is for the next time. For appetizers, I love Crunchy! It’s crispy wasabi crackers with tuna. Yum! For an Entrée besides sushi rolls my all time favorites r pork buns, it’s just like a hamburger but better; and the Coconut Green Curry, I’m not fun of coconut but this sause is overwhelmingly great. I ordered it a few times here. Behind the bar was Anar. The manager Eddie! And the server was Aura! Thanks for making the dinner birthday special. I’d give 6 stars. The price was very reasonable.

Besides the sushi not being fresh, when I tried to use the prepaid Unilocal voucher it didn’t work for lunch. This is not mentioned on the terms of the voucher agreement. I spoke to a server, who told me the manager wasn’t in. After I kept complaining, the server went to get the manager who suddenly existed. Manager came out, and told me that they won’t honor the voucher because the terms were listed on the website. I pulled up the website and showed the manager. She came back with who I presume was the owner, or more senior manager, and eventually they agreed to honor the voucher. I don’t like feeling scammed, and that was the experience that I went through between the Unilocal voucher and Amber west. Bottom line, customer service was shit and the sushi wasn’t fresh, so go find any number of cheaper and better sushi places in NY.

Came here to get my sushi fix, and I need one all the time! We found this cute Sushi and Thai place in West Village. The ambient was great, it had a warm lighting and very clean. The Staff was very friendly and suggested some great beer I had not tried before. They brought everything out in a timely manner. HAPPYHOUR– had Drink specials that went on till 7pm(Wines, sangria for $ 7 and Beer for $ 4) my kinda place! I enjoy my sushi with BEER I have to say they have some pretty good deals SUSHICOMBOWITH3ROLLSFOR $ 18 The jalapeño Yellowtail roll was so tasty and SPICY just like I want it.(They where pickled jalapeños) I have never had it this way but really enjoyed it. Pretty good sushi for a nice price. I can here for lunch and had the shrimp tempura roll, crispy spicy tuna roll and Philadelphia roll with a seaweed salad and a Sapporo. Not the best sushi around, but very competitive prices and a nice atmosphere. I’d definitely come here again.(And they played a lot of Muse so that was a plus…)

Service was friendly but the food was hit or miss. My friend enjoyed her salmon sushi and her drunken spaghetti and my pumpkin tempura was good(took a while to make but was good), though my Pad Thai noodles were horrible, they totally lacked flavor. Also, I asked for no egg but I think they still put egg in it. The server kindly let me sample the«basil» sauce I was curious about and it was HORRIBLE. It was a thick brown gravy that tasted like generic«brown sauce» at take-out Chinese restaurants and it tasted nothing like basil. I doubt there is even basil in it, very misleading and I am so glad I didn’t get it.

Gorgeous place. This was my first time in there. A few friends recomended it. I must say I fell in love. The waitress was so nice. They were perfectly organized. I’ve been in a few sushi places, Amber has been the best one. Is not a big location but it’s cofortable enough. The food was ready so fast. I was shocked. The taste: DELICIOUS. I’M definitely coming back soon.

Extremely hungry and still early for our dinner reservations we walked in for a drink. The place didnt really feel like a sushi place(not in a bad way). The house wine was quite good. My friends loved the lychee martini. Veg sushi could have been much better if the sea weed didnt separate out. The bartender suggested getting the dragon roll. It had a good amoubt of crispies. Again I wished the roll was well packed n didnt have the sea weed separating out.

Dine in for weekday lunch Sashimi lunch special($ 12.99) It was totally my mistake to come here. I was near by and just wanted sashimi, I thought any place would do, but it was not. The quality and taste of the fish and everything else were far from Japan. First, rice — it was flaky Chinese rice! C’mon! Really? It was insult to Japanese cuisine. I love the texture and special sent coming out from Chinese rice with Chinese foods but never with Japanese foods for me. I remember when I visited Hamburg, Germany in early 90’s. Because of lack of Japanese food items at the time, Japanese restaurants needed to be creative. They use very similar to Chinese rice but cooked not flaky. I am sure they offer this kind of rice as a side only but not acceptable for me. Fish — unknown fish and typical fish(salmon and tuna) were definitely pre-sliced for sushi making or trying to make less fish to look bigger and cutting an angle, and left with a sharp edge to the both ends rather than a traditional rectangular shape cut. I favor sashimi when I want to get the full flavor of the fish. When I walked in, I thought I was in a dive bar with few older men sitting at the bar. My server was attentive but the space was dark, black leather chairs and less light. I couldn’t see what I was eating. Sit by the window if you are having lunch. What looks better were dishes from the kitchen. They were Thai-Chinese fusion kind and that was what most were having for lunch here.

We ordered delivery from Amber a few nights ago and it was barely edible. I literally could not swallow the crispy duck steam buns(they were fatty/plastically), and the chicken teriyaki was so dry I could not manage more than a few bites. The miso soup tasted like a bottle of soy sauce fell into it. Would not recommend, and actually suggest that you completely avoid this spot.

Amber is a fusion Japanese sushi bar and restaurant in the West Village, a bit closer to the west side highway. It has a very enticing ambiance. There are several high dining tables for two by the façade and I thought that was romantic. It is highly recommended for a date night. There’s a full bar that serves original cocktails as apéritif. We started our dinner with a bottle of dry sake recommended by our waiter. We ordered steamed buns with braised pork belly and crispy fried chicken(the fried chicken was not on the menu). Both appetizers are delicious but I must say that the braised pork bun is outstanding. I chose the spicy roll combo that includes crunchy spicy salmon, spicy tuna, spicy yellowtail chives roll and Teriyaki Salmon entrée with mixed vegetable bedding to share. Both dishes were good and probably a notch better than competitors. Amber is a comme il faut Japanese restaurant with great customer service and modest prices to match. I will definitely come back!

Amber’s close proximity to the Christopher Street Path train led me to order some takeout for dinner recently. Two people split two special rolls and one classic roll: Shrimp Tempura roll($ 7.00) — really good, I’ll definitely order this again. Soho Special roll($ 17YIKEES!: Spicy lobster tempura, lettuce, avocado, cucumber, in soy paper) — I enjoyed this roll and thought it was tasty, and it was a large size roll. That said, the flavors came off as ‘clean and refreshing’, I did not get a lobster taste per say, and even though I enjoyed it, I’m not sure it’s worth ordering again at $ 17. Red Hot Dragon Special roll($ 15: Spicy crunchy tuna on an avocado roll) — This roll was good. Two small salads also came with the rolls which I really liked even though I thought the carrot ginger dressing was a tad sweet for my taste. I will definitely order from here again, but I do wish the Special Roll prices were a little bit more reasonable. *Dine-in check-in offer for a free desert*

Decent option for sushi in the area. I ordered the three lunch roll special for $ 13. The eel avocado roll was my favorite, and the salmon avocado roll was also pretty good. I’d skip the jalapeño salmon roll, the hard raw peppers just don’t mesh well. The shumai were larger than I’m used to but weren’t as good as I’ve had them at other places. But the star of the show were the spicy sechuan wontons. Really tender and delicious pork wontons in a mildly spicy sauce, I’ve been thinking about them ever since I had them :) ETA: I’ve had more of the sushi and it’s decent but not all that great. You can’t really taste the salmon in the spicy salmon roll, and the shiitake cucumber roll could use a little something else in it. But their hot food is turning out to be really good! I ordered the Singapore chili shrimp lunch special. For $ 10 you get miso soup, a salad, 2 shrimp shumai, and a generous portion of shrimp in a somewhat sweet chili sauce with big chunks of fresh red onions and red and green bell peppers with white rice. There were 6 shrimp! This is an AWESOME option for an affordable lunch in the area. And really tasty. Good on your Amber!

When I first walked by, I almost didn’t walk in just because it seemed so crowded — but then I noticed the«happy hour» sign outside … so, of course. The bar area was definitely full but we managed to get a quieter table in the back — which was actually much less crowded despite the small space. The sushi itself was very fresh — I really liked the Salmon Martini(yes, my two favorite words) appetizer. The«Tuna Lovers» app I thought was good, but a bit too much rice and hard to share. Lots of interesting rolls to try — my one area of improvement though would be the drink service … the bar seemed a bit overwhelmed with Happy Hour even an hour AFTER Happy time. Other than the drink service though the food service was pretty swift. I also noticed a TON of «foot traffic» — meaning delivery guys in and out of the restaurant … yes, a bit hard to dodge, but point being that their delivery must be pretty good if that many large orders are going out every night … will try that next time.

So growing up in south Brooklyn mostly means Japanese food made by Asians– simple, nothing special. When I first saw Amber on Unilocal,it made me wonder why it was called Amber, as most Japanese restaurants were given distinctly Japanese names. Strange, but I decided to try. When I first walked in, I noticed a small bar– nothing like the Japanese restaurants I had been to with all alcohol usually behind the cashier. It was happy hour around five, so I was immediately seated and served. I did have the Kani salad– which was placed on a beautiful plate. Not to mention all their ceramics and glasses are absolutely beautiful! Very elegant feel. The tables are small though but how much room do you actually need? I also had the California roll. Not as great as they could make it– it smelled overly fishy, but I really didn’t have a problem because I did use my Unilocal deal(which is not combinable with your edamame check in offer). Also the staff was super friendly. I dropped my chopsticks like twice and they replaced it immediately without the slightest bit of annoyance. Even opened it and took it apart for me! The bathroom was tiny but also super super clean. The only thing I didn’t like was that the bar was very close to tables as with most places they usually keep a few feet away. This bar was close to the point where there were toddlers playing with the bar chairs– which really shouldn’t be allowed. Anyhow– this place seems great for drinks– happy hour specials(beer, sake, and wine) seem wonderful. I would definitely come here again.
