Alice In Wonderland Sculpture

Constantly part of CP press, this statue is a nice work of craftsmanship that folks use for photo ops and a place to rest.

‘Alice asked the Cheshire Cat, who was sitting in a tree, «What road do I take?»
The cat asked, «Where do you want to go?»
«I don’t know,» Alice answered.
«Then,» said the Cat, «it really doesn’t matter, does it?‘
Where is the Wonderland, you wonder?
Right here, my friend. New York IS the Wonderland behind the Looking Glass, there roads & secret paths of Central Park will take you to the place to remember Lewis Carroll’s magic.
There tall mushroom grows high, and time stands still, there Alice finally caught up with White Rabbit and there Mad Hatter still drinking his tea. Time is frozen in bronze, and they all stuck in a loop, forever and ever.
Round and around statue you go, looking at all details and secrets, till you get dizzy from spinning and need to sit down on mushroom next to Alice.
«Hey», you say.
She looks at you, and at people walking by, at crazy New York life spinning around…
«But I don’t want to (be) among mad people,» Alice remarked.
«Oh, you can’t help that,» said the Cheshire Cat: «we’re all mad here. I’m mad. You’re mad.»
«How do you know I’m mad?» said Alice.
«You must be,» said the Cheshire Cat, «or you wouldn’t have come here.»

It’s adorable and you will find a lot kids playing there.
Go at morning and will not be kids, and you will be able to take nice pictures :-)

Great place for a photo opp if you’re into Lewis Carroll and/​or Alice. Was able to find the statue through Google maps but upon arrival I realized I wouldn’t be able to get the photo I wanted because it’s mostly a place for children to climb & play on. I was still able to get a pretty great photo but only with the white Rabbit. Nice kind of playground for little ones though.

On my windy drizzly day walking up to Museum Mile I decided to detour on 72^nd St east to find this sculpture. There is a beautiful pond before it and then when I saw it-​no one was there! Course who would go see it in that weather! It made a great photo shoot. The statue which is designed for children and children at heart consists of Alice, the Mad Hatter, the white rabbit and some other characters from the children’s novel.
I noticed around the base of the statue there were stone blocks with different tales of familiar characters of Alice in Wonderland or Through the Looking Glass.
It is an adorable statue and if you want to avoid children from climbing on it (there are no signs saying that you can’t) then go in rain Chances are you will find very few people there anyway. Once you see it there is a path that leads northeast that will put you back on Fifth Ave in order to avoid getting lost in Central Park.
Alice in Wonderland is one of Central Park’s many hidden treasures for young and old alike. I was glad I was finally able to locate it and see it.

The statue itself is adorable, TOURISTS BE WARNED this is for children, it is for children to play on. It is rude to show up and demand children stop playing on it so you can get your prized picture. Please, in the age of selfies it’s not like you need another photo of yourself anyways. Fantastic statue.

Very iconic statue.
At any given time, there will be plenty of tourists or kids running all over the sculpture. It does get a little annoying when the parent is trying to get the picture juuuuuuuuuust right, and takes at least 20 minutes.
But, if you’re able to be alone with the sculpture, it’s kind of nice to envision the story of Alice in Wonderland as the sun sets.
Then the kids and tourists will come and ruin your peace and quiet.
Good point of interest.

Can’t say I’m not tempted to climb, good thing I’m preempted by slews of tiny crews «hogging the court». There’s also another Hans Christian Andersen statue diagonal-​orthogonal, albeit not nearly as climbable. Other than these sculptures’ penchant for lil climblings and lil booklings are quotings surrounding them.

Einfach nur cool! Keine Ahnung warum es diese Skulptur dort gibt oder auch das Alice im Wunderland Mosaik an der 52^nd Street aber wir fanden beides klasse.
Auf der Skulptur herrscht reges Treiben, viele Kinder klettern darauf herum und Touristen wollen sich darauf fotografieren lassen. Das kann schonmal ein paar Minütchen dauern bis man an der Reihe ist.

Been jogging in Central Park lately and many times I have passed by this bronze statue of Alice and her friends from Wonderland — The Mad Hatter, White Rabbit, and Cheshire Cat.
Even with the mini-​boat pond frozen over, and icy snow still all around, there are parents taking pictures of their kids in front and climbing on the statue. It is a picturesque photo op spot for sure. You can also find many tourists here on warm summer day checking it out.
It’s just ok, but nothing to rave over. Unless you are an annoying tourist, or helicopter parent that feels the need to take 15,236 pictures of your kids in different poses by the statue to place on facebook and annoy all your friends with them.

My 6 and 8 year old kids love it.
If you have kids, you know what they do with sculptures like this — they climb on it, under it, around it, etc. This sculpture is very good for that.
If you have kids, you also know what *you* do with sculptures like this — watch and make sure the kids don’t kill themselves. This sculpture doesn’t give them a lot of opportunity to do that, whether by design or by chance.
My kids know the story of «Alice in Wonderland» and the main characters, so that adds to the value-​add for them. Definitely stop by if you are in/​around Central Park.

I sought this sculpture out during my first trip to NYC a few years ago because it was featured in Eric Schaeffer’s movie «If Lucy Fell» starring Sarah Jessica Parker. It was lovely seeing it in person. A must-​see when visiting Central Park!

Amazing and what a view Alice has of the sailboats in the lake. This is a hidden gem in NYC for locals to ponder and transport into the realms of Wonderland. Don’t be fooled though, there are nearly lines of tourists here to see Alice and her friends so getting to far down the rabbit hole without distraction isn’t so easy in the heat of the day. Also, if it’s in question, this is an incredible work of sculpture art and the contribution of putting it into the park has likely produced daunting rewards for those who can enjoy it in public.

My/​our tour guide really wanted for us to see this huge sculpture and we did. We actually took a group photo.
While i climbed right behind Alice, a mushroom behind her and madhatter, I actually slipped and hit my chest HARD and i scratched my favourite sunglasses. So that means it’s slippery also go on a warm to cool climate because it gets really hot on a hot day and if you don’t like that cold it gets cold but me I love the cold so it’s better for me. i despise the sun just saying.

It’s a gigantic statue of Alice with her pals the Mad Hatter, the White Rabbit, and the Cheshire Cat in Central Park… Need I say more?
P. S.: In the summer sun, the statue becomes too hot to climb onto. Learn from my mistake!

I remember back to 8^th grade photography class when we used to head to Central Park (the school was only 4 blocks away) and use the landscapes and scenery as potential photo material.
One of the more fun things we used to take pictures of was our classmates sitting/​standing/​laying on this statue, one of many contained within the park but my favorite.
Made of bronze and dating back 50 years, the statue includes such characters as The Mad Hatter, The March Hare, The Cheshire Cat, The White Rabbit, Alice’s Cat Dinah, the bashful Dormouse and, of course, Alice herself.
Come hang out on the statue yourself but be forewarned, choose a warm day else the metal itself be VERY cold.
