Dr. Bender is a well respected, well educated doctor in NYC. But for me, I feel his complete lack of compassion and concern for his patients trump any knowledge he may or may not possess. Dr. Bender must have skipped the courses on bedside manner and his listening skills are WELL below those of a ADHD4 year old on a sugar high. I went and saw Dr. Bender after being refered by another doctor of mine. He was all too quick to rush over reviewing my medical history, my examination, and the exhisting testing I hade sent over to him. He made minimal eye contact, mostly staring at his notebook paper. When I asked questions, his responses were short and curt. When I was explaining critical components of my medical history, he was constantly rushing me, interupting me, or cutting me off… as if he knew what I was going to say. He was all too bold to tell me that all the other doctors diagnosis were inaccurate and there was nothing wrong with me and all the bizzare string of symptoms I were experiencing were«in my head» or a result of stress. Now I am not a doctor, but it seems unlikely that the 6 other specialists I was seeing for various aspects of my condition were all saying one thing but he was saying they were all wrong. Odd. One of my major pet peeves is when a doctor becomes irritated by a patient who has taken an attempt to educate themselves on their health condition and ask questions about it. I am very diligent about reading current literature to educate myself as much as I can… I find it interesting. In my appointment with Dr. Bender, I inquired about the possibility of my condition being the result of something I had read about online and asked if a certain therapy could be beneficial. He furrowed his brows and and looked at me in irriatation, his expression saying«I went to medical school and you did not! Who are you to tell me about anything to do with science or medicine?» This arrogance irriatates me. Yes, YOU are a doctor and know more about medicine than I do. But I AM the patient, and I know more about me and the nuances of my health issue. You have lots of patients and lots of things to stay abreast on, so I would assume it would not HURT if I inquired about things that I had questions on. I suppose the patient should NOT be an active participant in the health and recovery. We should SHUTUP and do as we are told.(Sarcasm here, of course). After leaving this appointment, I was furious and on the brink of tears. I will never return to Dr. Adam Bender. I have been to so many doctors over the years and I have had great docs, good docs, okay docs, crummy docs, and bad docs. He tops my list of doctors that I would never recommend. Why is there not a ZERORANKING?!
