This is my go-to fabric store. They have a wide selection of good quality fabrics for great prices. The workers here are also always so helpful, kind, and welcoming. I would highly recommend this place.

My favorite thing about this shop is that they carry a large selection of fabrics from my favorite design house, Alexander Henry. They have all their AH bolts right up front and I often walk by, hoping to see something new in the window. The employees/owners have always been helpful and this is my favorite fabric shop to visit in the area.

The shop owner was very nice and helpful. The staff were also considerate and nice. There is a wide range of fabrics to choose from and is very inexpensive compared to the other fabric shops around it. Will go there again for more fabrics.

I had a great visit here. As a beginner, I am often intimidated and overwhelmed by the larger fabric stores in the area. This location is a manageable size, and the staff are friendly and helpful. I found there to be a good selection at a very reasonable price. Cotton flannel was around $ 3/yd and so was cotton poplin.

First time visiting this place and the prices are great. I think a father and son runs it with 1 extra person on the floor. Great customer service. Will definitely go back!

This place is great. I literally just got back from going for the first time 2 hours ago. What I loved about it: 1. The guy who helped me was great. I told him I was a beginner and that I was looking for the cheapest fabrics, so he pointed me in the right direction and showed me two sections: One where there were $ 2 pieces and the other where there were $ 5 pieces. 2. I found four different fabrics I liked and got 1 yard of each(one of them featured patch work) all for a total of $ 14. AWESOME! 3. Because I’m new at this the guy sold me the patch work piece(originally priced at $ 7) and another beautiful fabric(originally priced at $ 6) for only $ 5 each. SWEET! 4. If you’re a novice at this or just trying your hand at sewing please do yourself a favor and overlook all of the other pricey fabric stores down 39th and head straight to AK Fabrics.

Chiffon(polyester) is $ 3-$ 3.50/yard Tulle is $ 4/yard. Other fabrics are also reasonably priced. A K Fabric has a big selection of fabrics and colours, but I wouldn’t say it is ‘massive.’ The bolts are organized neatly, standing up, so it’s easy to look for patterns you might like. Their stock includes cotton, denim, silk charmeuse, wool, plaid, polyester fabrics and some lace. Service is also great here. If they see a stain on the fabric you’re about to buy, they’ll give you extra cloth from that bolt. Like most stores in the Fashion District, they also give small discounts if you’re buying the last of their stock. It’s never crowded or cramped, so getting someone to help you is easy.

Just want to confirm the good things that others have said. I was there today. I’ve uploaded a photo of two fabrics I bought, the one with the black background was $ 6 a yard, the other was $ 7 a yard.

My first 5 stars review. I adore this little jem. I’ve been coming to this store for my fabric needs since 2005. I only come about once a year and buy just enough fabrics for whatever projects I decide that my tailor will tackle. The owner still remembers me every time! The people are so nice and treat me like someone who’s buying a lot more fabric and a lot more frequently than I actually do. Another great thing is the suggestions. It’s overwhelming to walk in and see rows and walls of fabrics. I usually just say what color I want, what type of fabric I’m looking for and what’s the purpose of the fabric and they just comes up with option of premium fabrics for a reasonable price. I like how they don’t hassle you and actually gives good suggestions. It’s such a fun and pleasant experience in an otherwise not pleasant task for me.

I was sent to AK Fabrics by the ladies @ Sew Fast Sew Easy-LOVE IT! I was kindly greeted upon entering and when I gave my loopy description of what I was looking for they knew right away what I wanted and brought me straight to it. I didn’t even make it past the front of the store-I was so pleased not only with what I found that I was looking for but additional material that inspired me to come back for my fall projects. great quality fabric, wonderful patterns and everyone was very kind and helpful. a great place for beginners and veterans.

My favorite NYC fabric store. Very helpful salespeople. Amazing assortment of good quality fabrics. Lots of natural fibers. No hustle like so many other places in the area. I’ve made many sets of curtains and tablecloths from their soft, fine, unusually-printed cottons, and hope they stay in business for a long, long time!

Great selection of Japanese prints. I found a pretty black bamboo pattern in a cotton stretchy material. I washed and dried the material and it didn’t have a single wrinkle on it, so by default, its an amazing piece of fabric which I can’t stop talking about. I am not in any way a pro when it comes to sewing, but I like, took a class at an adult school a couple months ago and now I swear like I’m a real seamstress… so anyhoo, I walked in to this place and the two older guys working there are cussing about some customer who just walked out and at first I thought they were talking smack because they didn’t know I was there and then I made myself seen and they kept talking crazy… NYC, gotta love it! I paid $ 6 a yard, they accept credit cards. Its good.

I can’t believe no one has reviewed this place yet! They’re the greatest! I’m a student at FIT, and one of my professors recommended checking out A K Fabrics for leather alternatives. I found an imitation leather that I absolutely loved at a shoe factory closing, ran out, and of course it’s from Italy and I couldn’t find it anywhere else I looked. All the other places I’d checked before had simply looked at my swatch and said«Nope.» The guy at A K picked it up and started searching through this huge selection of vinyls to find the weight and color I needed. He eventually had to check where they keep their stock and walked out with this gigantic roll of imitation leather that was the exact color and weight I was looking for! I have to find out his name the next time I go. Everyone there was very helpful. I will definitely be back. They have a huge selection of all types of material. The only«negative» thing that I can say is that it is very crowded in there because of all the fabrics, but that’s no different from any other store I’ve been to on that block.
