Poor service and food. The French onion soup was pretty good, the wings were horrible. This quesadillas were tasteless. The service was very slow during a slow time and the servers seemed in a hurry to get back to their conversations instead of paying attention to their customers.

After visiting the 9⁄11 memorial we wanted to sit down for a bite & some drinks, we came across this place. Nice place, pretty big located in the Mariott Hotel. We sat at the bar & order some drinks, I wanted a beer & grabbed a Stella never a bad choice. My friend enjoyed her Jack & Coke. After a few drinks we needed a lil something to munch on we tried the fries, not bad nothing special & the pizza was good. Bartender was nice & friendly, decent prices & for the most part a good atmosphere I wouldn’t mind returning another time.

The food and drink is on par with places like Chilis, but twice the price and super slow service even when the place is dead. For $ 15 I’d expect my martini to be something I wouldn’t find on the back of a bottle.

Stayed at the Marriott in the financial district this past weekend. Decided to give the hotel bar 85 West a try. The food was so so, the service was so slow we narrowly made it outta there with enough time to go out for the night. Not impressed, would not eat at again.

Because we are not big on Sports bar, but were just the hotel guest, I give only three starts. We found this place as the only option after we failed to go out to dinner before 10pm. Foods and service are ok, but just too expensive. But I’m glad they are open until midnight.

Do not go here unless you like iced down drinks, extra salty food, beef from dirty grills and paying too much even for NYC! At least they had BIG screen TVs for watching sports(the lure we fell for). Our waitress was not very nice and they seemed short staffed for a Sat. dinner hour. Again — I suggest that you don’t eat here.

Awesome atmosphere. Doesn’t really have the usual bar foods… less greasy and more adequately prepared. Fully stocked bar but the beer selection is a little lacking. Very comfortable seating areas to include couches. Didnt watch any games there but there is a projection screen to watch one game and a few smaller tvs placed in various other spots.

A fancy bar, that, at least the one time I was there, was mostly filled with young to middle-aged males in nice suits. Given its location, that makes perfect sense. First word that pops into your head when you walk in is «red». The place is very nicely decorated with red walls, a red ceiling, red lights, medium wood, and faux brick. You walk into what is basically a lounge with couches, chairs, coffee tables, and a couple pool tables. There is a very large eating area to the east with multiple tables, booths, and a dining counter. Can’t comment on the food, didn’t eat, but I’m guessing/predicting for most people it is above average. The bar is towards the north(with windows looking out to the 9⁄11 memorial entrance. The bar top is a nice copper with no rail and brass pole footrail. The stools are a nice black leather with wooden back. The bar back is fancy with trapezoidal mirrors and subdued red lighting. 10 – 12 beers on tap, planty of bottled beer, a somewhat limited hard liqour selection. Enough tvs to watch the game, but this place won’t get rowdy. A fairly subdued place, the music was never too loud(still was pop music, but I didn’t expect much different). Friendly, attractive female bartenders. Just one, short visit, but a solid place(bar, not a hotel bar) for being attached to the marriott.

My favorite place to watch sports in Manhattan. We have been coming for several football/basketball seasons now, and 85 West has been consistently good. 85 West is quite spacious, with a nice mix of different seating in front of giant TVs. There are several comfortable booths and armchairs if you are looking to sit and relax for a few hours. The crowd is a nice combination of locals and out-of-town fans, nothing overly biased or rowdy. If you are a fan of a non-local team, you definitely won’t feel out of place. EVERY game is shown, so it’s easy to catch all the action. The staff here are quite accommodating to their sports fans, and we definitely don’t feel like the leftover crowd in the middle of a hotel restaurant. I have also never felt rushed to turn a table over and miss the end of a game. There are several drink and food specials during the games, all decent deals(I think it’s currently $ 6 for a dozen wings, $ 10 for a large plate of nachos, and $ 3 drafts). In the wastelands of the Financial District, 85 West is a low-key, fantastic option for sports viewing.

Been here a few Sundays for football. A little pricey for what it is. Food servings not meant for sharing(although we usually do). The nachos have cubes of stringy beef with only enough cheese to cover the 12 chips in the middle of the plate. The bacon cheeseburger sliders were nothing special(4 in every order, bitesized with crispybuns without much breading or lettuce or bacon but unidentified yellowish mayo). The chicken quesadilla was standard(the server corrected me when i made the«l» sound) but shamelessly sprinkled with grocery store salsa and guac. Still hungry but running out of options we ordered general«tongs» chicken(yes, strange menu selection – we know who this menu is catering towards…) which was too sweet but i finally got the sticky rice i wanted for my ggaejut at village yokocho(could the cook be Korean ?) !!! The chipotle fries conjured images of grandeur but were another disappointment of cold fries drenched in orange colored salt. They were supposed to come with an aioli which tasted more like guacamole mousse. We ordered the football bong which was fun but ran through 3 of them since we watched a game and a half :/. Its kid friendly since we usually have a toddler and an infant with us, always accommodated for easily(only crazy fans we have to worry about is their father). We got a table right in front the giant screen playing my game, but were surrounded by smaller TVs that allowed us to keep up with several games. It felt like a private party because there really was only one other table watching football near us.

THEGOOD:(1) Very spacious without feeling empty; getting a table wasn’t difficult to watch NFL on a Sunday.(2) I liked the ambiance with the open-air kitchen in the middle of the restaurant, and it was otherwise a nice bar.(3) There were several massive tvs, so even the relatively less popular game I wanted to watch was being shown on a very large tv, and I was able to sit right in front of it.(4) On Sundays they have good specials(e.g. $ 6 for 10 quality wings). THEBAD:(1) The standard menu is outrageously expensive for a sports bar. $ 3.50 for a very small glass of soda with no refills; $ 4 for a coffee. $ 16 for a hamburger.(2) Bathroom requires that you have a card to access it, which isn’t itself a huge deal, but in light of how slow the service was(see below), obtaining a bathroom access card took about 10 minutes from the time I decided I wanted to go to the bathroom.(3) Because it’s a slightly more upscale place, I felt uncomfortable being raucous in my cheering until it filled up a bit more. THEUGLY:(1) Service was terrible. I waited forever for everything — fortunately, watching an NFL game, I had 3 hours to spare. My waiter never refilled my water. I had to ask another waiter, and I only got one water refill in 3 hours. My waiter then put another table’s tab($ 30) on my credit credit card. My meal was $ 15. This also isn’t the restaurant’s fault, but it annoyed me. On separate occasions, two separate groups of people asked me if they could join me at my table and then got indignant when I said no they could not join me. If they were even there to watch the football game I was watching I could understand, but they were just there to have lunch and chat. No, absolutely not. Don’t bother me. THEBOTTOMLINE: I would go back to watch a football game if I can’t find a better sports bar in the area, but I’ll keep looking around for others. I wouldn’t come here for any purpose other than to watch a game I couldn’t see on my home tv.

Service was complete crap. It took about 10 minutes to get them to take the dirty glasses from the previous customers off of our table and when I asked for a rag to wipe down the spills, it took another five minutes. Our beers came after another 10 minutes. The food was okay — not the best I’ve ever had, especially not for $ 70 for four beers and two sandwiches. I won’t go back unless its the only place open.

King of Queens. Best Cocktail Ever! My friends and I, on a cold wintery evening in NYC decided that since we were new to NYC and it was too cold to go out, that we would just go to the hotel bar and order all of the cocktail drinks on the menu. 6 people, 13 drinks, easy peezy… However, we forgot that drinks get expensive after a while and that you can’t really do 2 rounds and 1 drink. You need to do that full 3 rounds! 3 rounds later, we’re pretty much drunk and the bar bill becomes atypical of our expensive NYC outing. Let’s just say that this evening wasn’t cheap.

I love coming here for games! Especially on Sundays when they have specials. I would say most food are between $ 10 and $ 20 here. So far everything I’ve eaten(e.g. wings, hummus & pita, ceasar salad, nachos) are really good. On Sundays they have 10 wings for $ 5 specials and $ 5 beer specials. I believe the nachos are also a special. I wouldn’t recommend coming here for hard core dinner, but if you’re eating and drinking while watching a game I would say YES! Oh yea, their service can be a little slow depending on the day and how many waiters/waitresses there are.

I was feeling particularly lazy tonight and with the weather setting the record low temperature in NYC, I figured that I should just go to the restaurant at the hotel for dinner. I wasn’t expecting much since it was a sports bar, but I was very pleasantly surprised. They had a Restaurant Week special going on, so I ordered: –Seared Scallop with Split Pea Risotto –Grilled 10 oz. Skirt Steak with Shrimp Risotto and Broccolini –Apple Cobbler with Vanilla Ice Cream My server was very attentive and service was relatively fast. And the food was really good. The seared scallop dish had a horseradish sauce that had a slight kick to it. The skirt steak was cooked as requested and everything was seasoned well. The dessert was an excellent finish with warm apples contrasting with the cool ice cream. If you’re staying at the Marriott Downtown and don’t want to travel too far for dinner, I would definitely recommend this place.

Would like to give 3.5 stars, but here are my thoughts: Pros: — Nice sports bar venue with one mega screen and a few small TVs throughout the area with pretty good sightlines — Chicken sandwich with avocado was good — Wings were good — The 100ml beer tube is a steal! If you ask the waiter, he’ll tell you about the beers that are $ 20 for 100ml(regular price is $ 25). That comes down to $ 2.50 per beer which is awesome! Cons: — Calimari was bad — Service was poor. We didnt get a menu for 20 minutes. Our server gave us the cold shoulder all night after we had told him the Coors Light he gave us in the 100ml tube was skunky and flat. In the three hours we sat there, he never re-filled our water.

Stayed at the Marriott hotel its attached to and I got nothing but great service, good drinks and tasty bar food when i came here. Its not a bad spot at all to go and watch sports game and get your drink on. They have beer towers, decent cocktail menu, Guinness ONTAP, all the regular bar food fare that one would expect and the service was always spot on. They always checked up on us at the right time whenever they saw our drinks hanging low and needed refills. There’s a pool table and some darts, as well as a juke box for entertainment. There’s about 20 screens laid out all over the place and one big projector with some nice loungey seats and couch for optimal viewing. This made it perfect for NFL Sunday as they labeled which TV was going to show which game so you literally could camp out and get your place set for whenever your preferred game was on. Me and crew were here as the SF Giants played Philadelphia Phillies in the NLDS game 3 and the Giants won that game so it was a mad house. Shots on the house for everyone who was from California! *raises hand and fist pumps*

Horribly slow service at the bar by a bartender who seems to think she’s doing you a favor by helping you when she finally gets off the phone or stops chatting with coworkers. I’ve lived the area for 15 years and been a regular at the old 85 on the west street side and this new space is bigger but the service is horrendous.

We were staying right across the street at the W and came here to have lunch and watch some football. They have a bunch of TVs and big screens all around, they were even tagged with what games they would be showing on each. We grabbed a table with prime viewing of the Bears mauling the overhyped Cowboys. I also had a nice vantage point of some of the other feature games to watch my fantasy squad dominate. There were a few specials of the day. We seemed to wait a long time for a server. They must have been outnumbered at least two to one by the managers that seemed to be everywhere. Finally we had a waiter and got some much needed beers and snacks. $ 5 wings were quite a good deal. We also had the hummus and sweet potato fries. Those fries were great, you’ll want to get those. The atomic wings were more bbq than buffalo. They also were served without celery or carrots, I just assumed those always went together. Good beer selection to choose from. I liked the Brooklyn Octoberfest and when we were able to flag down our waiter, we got another round. Service was way off and it started to get to me by the end of it all. He tried taking plates where we still had food and never bothered refilling waters. I had to go to the bar to get that taken care of. An odd experience for a place with so many employees milling about.

I have been staying at the Downtown Marriott for years when it was called the Financial Center Marriott well before 9⁄11. The restaurant there was Roy’s, one of my favorite Hawaiian restaurants. Downtown was never busy on the weekend with Wall Street closing over the weekend, but now the area is picking up with tourism. Roy’s eventually closed a few years after the 9⁄11 tragedy, and the restaurant reopened recently as 85 West Sports Bar and Grill. I was worried a little about the fantastic brunch on the weekend, but soon found out that all of my favorite chefs and servers were still there under the new moniker. The brunch is still great and the evening food has a new menu with a sports theme, the place was redecorated with many large screen televisions all over the restaurant and bar area. I watched the Yankee and Red Sox game there last night and had their delicious chicken quesadilla(for the fourth time), Caesar Salad, and asked for my favorite dessert from the Roy’s era, the very rich chocolate soufflé or the Molten Chocolate cake as it appears on the room service menu. Hint: even though it may not appear on the 85 West menu, you can still get the food from the room service menu because the same people make it. It takes 14 minutes to prepare this wonderful dessert, and it is served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a large chocolate covered strawberry. Triple Yum. Reasonable prices for NYC, great food and service any time during the day. Breakfast, lunch and dinner.
