66th Street Lincoln Center Station

What’s not to love about 66^th?
This is one of my major stops, I spend a lot of time at the library, plaza, and the opera so I’m constantly getting off here. It’s clean, the one comes quickly.
Tip for other music go-​ers, the quickest way to get to the plaza is the last car, three door.

This was my local station growing up and it’s still the station closest to my parent’s place as they haven’t ever moved.
Recent pluses are the new countdown till next train timers but a minus being the loss of the station agent, and booth, at the southern /​Lincoln Center side exit.
You still have the easy underground access to most of Lincoln Center buildings including the opera house, the philharmonic hall, the Koch Center, the new movie theater venue, etc. (it’s great when the weather outside isn’t the best).
With the explosion of things to see and do in the Lincoln Square neighborhood this station gets more and more use but still looks clean (other than the southern underpath which needs a good bleaching) and well-​maintained.
Check out the cool mosaics on the wall for a bit and take the next train.

I love this station! It’s clean, convenient to my house, and it has the countdown timers for trains. I don’t think I’ve ever waited more than 6 minutes, even at night.
Plus it’s under the Lincoln Center, so you can walk underground to cross the street if the weather is bad. :)

I think my major problem with this station is that it should be a bit more updated for this area of the city. I also don’t like the «can only enter/​exit in the center of the platform» thing. But, hey! It puts you right in the center of where it says it will ;-)

I love the mosaics at this station. I just threw in some photos of the new (er) mosaics in this station, which are by Nancy Spero. The work is entitled, «Artemis, Acrobats, Divas, and Dancers.» Info here:

A few trips to NYC ago, I started noticing the mosaics in the subway. Most of Chicago’s subway stations are so mind-​numbingly plain, I couldn’t help but notice (plus, having been married to one of the most talented mosaic artists in the world didn’t hurt any).
So, I did a little research and it all made sense:
The original progenitors of NY’s subway mosaics were the reknowned architects and designers, Heins & LaFarge. Their first works in 1904 were between the old City Hall station and 145^th & Broadway. You really must see them; they have been updated relatively recently.
(For easy reference, Heins & LaFarge also did the Bowling Green IRT Control House at the corner of Battery Park and the 72^nd St Station.)
But 66^th/​Lincoln Center caught my eye first. The old 66^th and Lincoln sign:

While this review is entitled and ostensibly about 66^th/​Lincoln Center, take a ride to Brooklyn on a 4 or 5, and check out, for example, the Grand Central sign and tiles on the support columns
and get off at Borough Hall.
The craftsmanship will not disappoint.
I want to go back just for the subway mosaics, and take a day or two to see them all.
