18th St Bamboo Garden

Two words… Order. In. I’ve never been to the actual establishment, but this has been my go-​to Chinese order at night when you’re lazy meal. They’re consistent (for the most part — some mixed up orders a couple times), and they’re not too heavy on the oils or fats.
Everything is just as you’d expect American Chinese food to taste. Compared to what you usually get in this city, this is a reliable General Tso’s chicken. Gotta love the egg roll that comes with the combo, too!

Change your damn name! You’re no longer on 18^th street and it’s the worst news! You were the only reason I had grubhub in the first place! You get a 2 for toying with my emotions.
On a side note. Foods fantastic.

I’ve ordered a few times for delivery directly from GrubHub (according to them, it’s #1 when I searched for «Chinese»). The pork dumplings are delicious, there’s about 5 wontons crammed into the wonton soup, and the other dishes are decent (but I can’t remember what I’ve tried!). The delivery is very fast and there’s a 20% off coupon when ordering through GrubHub, plus, you don’t have to talk to anyone when ordering. Definitely a reliable delivery option.

There was one other table with guests at it, so we figured it was mainly for take-​out. Unfortunately the only takeout this deserves is to the garbage. One phrase comes to mind… Mystery meat. Need I say anything more???

my lunch order was just ok. Rice was overcooked to the pont of «making balls and having them stick to a wall» overcooked. Chicken was ok but sparse. I hesitate now when i don’t see a dept. of health rating in the window and i don’t think i will be back. this place inside is dark and ¼ of the window is now covered with a huge picture menu. I used to come here years ago and it was a great lunch spot but then i saw they had been closed a few times by the health dept. (never a good sign) so when i came back to the area to work and found them open i was hoping it was a good sign. Good chinese in this area is hard to find i have found.

Best Chinese delivery place! My food almost always comes in about 30 minutes, and it’s fresh and portions are large. They have a varied menu – try the Moo Shu vegetables.

Mike F., wherever you are, thank you for your rating because I prob never would have ordered from here otherwise (so often the plight of unreviewed takeout options), and I would honestly have missed out. Do not worry, 18^th St Bamboo Garden, I too will forever sing your praises.
I wasn’t expecting 5-​star (and alright, this is Chinese takeout, don’t get ahead of yourself) but this place just won a serious repeat offender, I can promise you that.
While the food is better than average, the no-​questions-​asked accommodation of my nitpicky variation on the combo order really made my (lonely, dinner-​at-​my-​desk kind of) night. Didn’t want an egg roll – they gave me wonton soup instead. Didn’t want fried rice – they gave me brown instead. Wanted a little kick to my chicken & broc – they complied. And let me clarify, I just typed all that out half expecting to have to haggle with the delivery guy later on, but got no comments, just good comida. Thanks guys! The ingredients tasted fresh and the pieces of chicken are solid, not sketch. The (takeout everyone, remember) wonton soup was way better than I was anticipating, for real – a generous helping with five bulging wontons, and the beauty of the identifiably pork strips that fell out of them almost brought tears of joy to my screen-​worn eyes (turns out I wasn’t eating mystery meat after all – usually I just don’t look). It could be that I’m just used to Hing Won but I’m genuinely excited to try their other stuff.
So yeah, don’t cancel your pre-​show reservations, but next time you’re stuck at the office (or just don’t want to cook in Midtown) order from here! Especially while they’re still doing the free 10% off coupon on GrubHub. AWESOME!
