Maybe is goes without saying– but don’t get a salad here. I’ve had sandwiches here a few times & they’re delicious– but today I was just feelin a salad so I got the Ceasar. Basically a huge bowl of shredded iceberg, mostly the white corner pieces that no one actually likes & a good portion of that was brown. :/

A personal struggle of mine is comprehending the fact that people often refer to melts as grilled cheeses. A grilled cheese is simply that, grilled cheese. Goo-ey melted cheese on bread. The only way to create different varieties of these holy grail sandwiches are to use other bread and cheese options. Simply as that. A melt, on the other hand, is a sandwich that features melted cheese with the other ingredient(s) being the main character. Got it? Good! As far as what’s listed on their menu as The Classic I can honestly say«Second is the best!» That’s not to say«first was the worst» I just wasn’t prepared for the huge helping of cheese I had. If it were back in my hay day when I used to make these with slices of plastic, I mean Kraft singles, I would think it would take quite a few slices to replicate theirs. The sand which in itself was equally as large so I would suggest only consuming half in a sitting. The outside was toasted perfectly! The real star of the show is their tomato soup! It too had cheese on it but the flavor of the tomato and basil were spot on. It’s definitely in my top 5. I can’t wait to get back to this place on a cold, winter day and enjoy my grilled cheese with light cheese along side my tomato soup!

Stop here to stalk my little cousin on her new job and actually tried some of their cuisine and to my surprise it was AMAZING. I tired the Mac & cheesy which is macaroni and cheese cooked with 4 different cheeses and bacon served on Texas toast my side was sweet potatoe fries(my fav). I definitely will be back to try other mouth watering menu items sooner than later

We ventured in on two separate occasions. Because I want to try all of the sandwiches, we’ve had four so far. The Mac n cheese sandwich is still my favorite… It’s so tasty! Second comes the pesto chicken. The big cheezy has three pieces of bread and a ton of cheese. All are tasty but be prepared to feel incredibly full after that much cheese. Tomato soup is tasty but pricey for the portion. Fries are cooked well. Good lunch spot. We would return. Casual dining. Not a lot of parking options in a cramped lot. Only place I have seen that has heinz jalepeno ketchup! What? Yes I eat it every time. Check their hours before you come.

They make a damn good sandwich. I’d recommend pairing any of their sandwiches with their tomato soup for a classic combo. Just watch where you park because if you park in the lot next door to it, you WILL get towed!

National grilled cheese day and my birthday. I found a new spot for lunch. The Big Cheezy on South Broad. The young girl at the register was great ! Did it all, an asset to the company. Wish other places sent there employees there to learn something. The menu simple, grilled cheese. BUT so many things they do to a cheese sandwich. GOURMET grilled cheese ! The atmosphere is casual and cozy. FOOD: got the flying Dutchman, Italian salad and there gumbo soup. sandwich ** gouda on toasted white bread, smoked turkey, apple wood bacon & honey mustard
salad ** romaine & iceberg with parmesan, green & kalamate olives, cheezy croutons, onions, tomato & Italian dressing and a good size. Could be a meal by itself for some. gumbo ** there version of chicken & two sausage What can I say, Best I ever had, Great comfort food, Impressed, Delicious, Highly recommend ! Off street parking yes but it’s south Broad. Requires care, it’s tricky ! Maybe the city can work with them on that ? Thanks’ for a good birthday.

The Big Cheezy is amazing! They have every combination of bread, cheese, and bacon under the sun as well as delicious soup. I’m a huge fan of the«dipper» sized soup portions which is perfect for someone who wants to savor but not bloat themselves. Their prices are a little higher but I think it’s justified since you are getting more than just a plain grilled cheese. The Big Cheezy is a permanent spot on my to re-visit list … but probably not more than once in a blue moon — the food is just so darn rich! If they could somehow fix the parking situation, sticky floor, and somewhat grimy tables, this would be a 5 star place.

Shrimp, Gouda Cheese, Carmalized Onions, Ramoulade– sour dough bread! Delicious**. The Cheese Gods have blessed me. The bread was crispy and buttery on the outside, and moist on the inside. what a perfect balance of flavors. I added the chicken and sausage gumbo as a dipper, good choice to wet down the bread. The gumbo was a bit watery, but the flavor profile was nice. I also tasted the Mac n Cheezy. Umm umm good. Cheezy goodness filled with bacon bits Cheddar cheese on sour dough bread. Beer on tap was COLD! Boom* this place is Gooooood!

Found a favorite new spot. This place is friendly, cozy, clean, and most importantly the food is great. Had the Flying Dutchman and side of bacon Mac and cheese. Very rich and filling. Extremely tasty. I have nothing bad to say about this place. Love love love it. Will be back for more!

I was most recently in here on a cold, hungover Sunday for dinner. The original combo(tomato soup plus the classic grilled cheese) hit the spot. I hate that they stopped serving the Spring Salad because that was my favorite thing on the menu paired with the Crazy Old Goat sandwich. Their pepper jelly is great! I have not yet been impressed by the other salads on the menu so I will probably just stick to what they do best — the grilled cheese sandwich. My one suggestion is that they offer a half sandwich, half salad combo where you could pick and choose your combination. The cheesy sandwiches are super filling, but they do make food leftovers for lunch the next day! And I wish they’d figure out a new parking lot configuration because getting out of their lot onto Broad St. can be tricky!

I love this place. So simple and so good. Theyre flavors ate put together so well. I like this venue better than the one on Williams. Ive tried many different choices and liked everything so far. The big cheezey… i think thats what its called… The one with the mac n cheese in it… That is really really rich. I could only eat a bite off of that one. The fries and gumbo are good. Prices are fair. You can have a sandwhich a side and a drink for under $ 10. Friendly people. There was a groupon that had us going nonstop. We will be back.

One dreary day in the Big Easy, I finally got over to The Big Cheezy. I wasn’t Big on grilled cheese sandwiches growing up since I wasn’t Big into the cheese that came wrapped in plastic but still looks like plastic between two pieces of bread. How this cheese was the only option in my youth still puzzles me… Alas, I’ve grown to love me some grilled cheese since, and have only heard great things about this spot. Like everyone has mentioned, don’t get your undies in a twist if you get towed parking on the wrong side. There are signs everywhere. We were able to find a spot on the left side of the building even with it being a little busy that day. The inside is the bottom level of what looks like a house, with big pictures of delicious sandwiches on the walls along with a very well done chalk food menu reminiscent of Dat Dog’s menu. The employee at the register was on point. I think anyone going into the service industry should learn from an employee like her. She greeted every customer asking them if they’ve ever been here, and if not they may want to look over the menu at a table thus avoiding any look up look down look up look down bottlenecking at the register. She cleaned tables between guests at the counter, and made sure everything was running smoothly for the entire restaurant. Though it isn’t the biggest joint, I’ve seen multiple servers struggle or let trash build up with the same amount of tables at other businesses in town. Well done, missy. Onto the food… I’d heard delicious tidbits about the Flying Dutchman, but the Crawgator* is what caught my eye, or stomach more so. We ordered our sandwiches as well as a side of bacon mac n’ cheez. I feel like a grilled cheese sandwich is a pretty simple dish, and they do well with it. Bread was toasted, ingredients were distributed through-out and cheese gooie-ness was on point. It’s an unassuming sandwich(as if sandwiches could assume) but does pack a lot of flavor in between the slices. That mac n’ cheez was good, kicked up a notch with hot sauce. In future cases, I think I’m absolutely going to have to go with the tomato basil soup on the side for a better dipping partnah’. If you’re looking for a casual, quick lunch or missing your brown paper bag with mom’s grilled cheese sandwich game on «Crowned Class B Dungeon Master» elite expertise, head on over to the Big Cheezy. *Crawgator: Cheddar and Pepper jack on sourdough bread with alligator and crawfish sausage, caramelized onions, and grilled green peppers.

Who doesn’t like grilled cheese sandwiches? I know I do. This place has them all. There are a variety of cheese sandwiches to choose from. I went with the basic big one. You can’t go wrong with cheese and bread and a sweet tea. Tip: Parking could be tricky. Park to the left of the building. I sat outside, which I love to do, but there is not much to look at in this area.

Place would have been so legit if not for the rude host/cashier. I ordered the Flying Dutchman, the Mac n cheezy, waffle fries, and an 8 oz tomato basil soup. Everything was delicious except my brother and I noticed that our Flying Dutchman was lacking enough cheese. Considering this is a grilled cheese place, I would assume that my sandwich would be oozing cheese. It wasn’t. I go to the register and ask if they would add more cheese. The cashier got defensive so quickly. «Well, that’s how we normally make it. We add a slice to each side.» I don’t care how you normally make it, I just asked for more cheese because I felt it wasn’t enough. That’s all. She proceeds to try to guilt trip me by telling me that they would have to make me an entirely new sandwich. I tell her it’s fine, don’t worry about it. Because it was fine. I just didn’t like the attitude. If I hadn’t already tipped, she would have gotten next to nothing. TLDR; Place is good. Try the food. Avoid rude host.

I think I came in with expectations that were too high. I came for a Sunday night dinner with my fiancé. He ordered the Flying Dutchman with a side of Mac and cheese. I ordered the crazy old goat with a side of Tomato soup. We shared the sandwiches and ate our own sides. The ingredients of the Dutchman were good, but they didn’t come together so great. The bread, white bread, got very smushy and greasy in the cooking process. I think it would be much better on multigrain bread! The crazy old goat had a bit too much pepper jelly, but the bread was perfect. The Mac and the soup were great. And the service was quick and friendly. I would def come back and try again, maybe this time creating my own sandwich.

AHHHH! Cheese. I love cheese. The big cheezy offers much more than just a grilled cheese sandwich. All of their sandwiches have a buttery, crispy, perfectly toasted bread, with delicious and warm inside. I tried the craw gator — yum. My roommate had the BLT cheese one I forget the exact name. She loved hers. Fries don’t come with the sandwich but two people can share one order. I got the tomato basil dipper and that was yummy too. This is where you go for your cheat meal, because it’s definitely artery clogging deliciousness. From the front of the building, park on the left side, not the right side. Their parking is minimal.

Allow me to add to the pile of praise for this lovely establishment. As soon as I heard that a fancy grilled cheese restaurant was opening in New Orleans, I was immediately on board. As soon as I got as taste of the deliciousness that is The Big Cheezy, I knew that this would have to be my 1100th review. It took me forever to get here and when I finally did it was on a Thursday at about 7. I was thrilled that there was no one else here, so we were able to order quickly with zero wait. I had looked over the menu before I came, so I knew exactly what I wanted. The Flying Dutchman was in my future. With ingredients like gouda, turkey and bacon, it seemed like a no brainer. My dining companion wasn’t so sure, but after a few minutes he decided to get the Crazy Old Goat, which was packed with goat cheese, monterey jack, bacon, grilled peppers and red pepper jelly. That sounded pretty amazing as well. We also got some waffle fries to munch on the side. Because we are smart, we decided that we would split our sandwiches so we both got to taste both. We sat down and we didn’t have to wait long at all because there was literally no one else in the place. As soon as the sandwiches came out I was SO excited. Gooey cheese was oozing our of the sides of both of these sandwiches. I could tell that the bread had been buttered(the only way to do it) and the sandwiches looked simple but delicious. First I bit into my Flying Dutchman. There was so much cheese on this thing and it was melted perfectly. The cheese mixed with the turkey and the bacon to create and amazing and delectable experience. After I finished my half, I couldn’t wait to switch. The Crazy Old Goat was so different! I loved how the cheese and the bacon made for a savory experience, the peppers added a little kick and the red pepper jelly added a bit of spicy sweetness. There was a lot happening on this thing and I loved every bit of it. Both sandwiches that I tried were incredible and I can’t wait to go back and try some more of The Big Cheezy menu. I would definitely suggest going later in the day, if you are like me and have no time for a line.

If you like grilled cheese — and aren’t worried about a strange parking lot — you NEEDTOEATHERE! I came here with my co-worker and we perused the menu before coming here and decided that we wanted to split the Mac n’ Cheezy and the Crazy Old Goat. Since our eyes were WAY bigger than our stomach we opted to get The Last Strawberry — a Big Cheezy Beignet! First — my choice Mac n’ Cheezy — was delicious. You could tell that the Mac n’ Cheese was made with care. It tasted like something my mom would have made. This sandwich is extremely rich, and I’m not sure if anyone could eat a whole one by his or herself. There also appeared to have extra cheese and bacon on this delicious grilled cheese. Next — Crazy Old Goat — was the perfect compliment to the Mac n’ Cheezy. The Crazy Old Goat had goat cheese, and Monterey Jack on a multigran bread(healthy?) with MOREBACON, grilled peppers and red pepper jelly. The sweet taste of the red pepper Jelly and Goat Cheese made this lunch taste like a dessert! My coworker also ordered a dipper size of tomato basil and she said that the soup was creamy and looked like she enjoyed dipping both sandwiches in it! Finally we opted for The Last Strawberry to top off this lunch. After our sandwiches were completed, the staff members brought out our Beignets — something I didn’t really expect. The dish had strawberries, nutella, marscapone all on top of a beignet with chocolate syrup. I plan on coming again and I’m hoping to try the Cheezy BET, Pig in a blanket, and Breezy next! Hopefully I will bring the fam here next!

I came in close to 1pm, and made it to the beginning of the line, and man, was there a line. You order and pay at the counter, and seat yourself. The staff is friendly. The restaurant is neat and clean. I had the crawgater. The crawgater. Cheddar, pepperjack on sourdough with alligator and crawfish sausage, carmalized onions and grilled green peppers. Oh. My. Goodness. It was freaking delicious! I do plan on coming back and trying other variations, and fries, as just the sandwich might not be enough, and any way, it will be nice to have leftovers to take home. Great place!

If you would have told me years ago that as an adult I would be eating grilled cheese, I would not have believed you. If you would have told me that not only would I be eating grilled cheese, but that I’d be eating them in a grilled cheese restaurant, I would’ve fallen on the floor laughing like a hyena. Well ladies and gentlemen, I’m here to tell you that my old self was a dumb ass. Location — I was not too keen on the location before visiting. They do have a lot on the left side of the building which makes the location much more desirable. Street parking can be a pain, but if you come early enough, my on can get a spot in the lot. Atmosphere and Service — I love the atmosphere. The walls are colorful and adorned with super high resolution photos of their sandwiches. If your mouth isn’t watering while you’re waiting for your food there is something wrong with you. This is an order at the counter type of place. I don’t particularly love that method, but it works here. All of the staff were friendly and personable. Food — if you are wondering how good a gourmet grilled cheese could be, listen closely: These sandwiches are incredibly good. I’ve tried three different kinds and my favorite has been the carwgator with the Flying Dutchmen a close second. Their fries are of the waffle variety and are as good as the sandwiches. In summary, if you haven’t been to The Big Cheezy, get there as soon as possible. You can thank me later.
