y’all, this is most emphatically not new york style pizza, nor does it bear any resemblance to it whatsoever. reading people referring to it as such has me pinching the area between my eyebrows, shaking my head ruefully, and sighing heavily. expect the average collegiate, stoner-staffed pizzeria that you find in every college town east of the rocky mountains. the cheese they use is very yummy, and their sauce isn’t bad at all, but this crust is heavy and textureless. their ovens are not cooking hot enough, and they’re using too much water in their dough. the price, however, is fair, which is more than we can expect of most eateries in our magical city, and banks street bar is rad!

Best NY style pizza in NOLA — key being Lazaro’s has the sauce-cheese-crust ratio down. They deliver to my house — apparently being on DeSaix is «off the grid». Guys who work there are friendly, down to earth folks.

Lazaro’s is great now! We have had it twice in the past month, and all the complaints I had about them previously have been addressed. Our standard order is a sausage, spinach and mushroom pizza. It’s still greasy, but just the right amount of grease, and the crust is crisp. I find it to be flavorful and delicious. I also think it’s worth noting that the service has gotten way better. Tonight, for instance, we were told our pizza would take 40 minutes to be ready. However, they called us back after about 25 minutes to tell us the pizza had just come out of the oven. I appreciated being able to pick it up while it was still piping hot and delicious.

I absolutely love their pizza. I took a star off because I’ve often called on days and hours they say they’re open and they definitely weren’t. The phone would just ring and ring. If I could, I’d order from them weekly, they just never seem to keep regular hours.

I think they have some of the best pie in the city.

I ordered take out one afternoon and had the cheese fries which were pretty good. Their website says curly but they are waffle fries now, yum! I ordered a 5 vegetable $ 18 pizza and even though it was huge and probably worth the money I didn’t think it’s as good as the other pizza places in town. However, the other pizza places don’t have huge New York pizzas and they aren’t open late like Lazaro’s. I would definitely try Lazaro’s again and order different toppings. Take out is probably best since the inside could use some work. I have a feeling I’ll love this place if I order it late night…

Ultra-large, super-greasy slices of pizza to tantalize your taste buds, drunk or sober. However, I would only recommend for pickup, not sitting in.

What an interesting place. I’ve had their pizza many times before, because it’s the absolute favorite of one of my previous roommates. I swear when they opened, we had pizza from them 4 – 5 times a week. That’s probably still the case at my old house. So the other day, after Bayou Boogaloo, I ended up here because(to my extreme disappointment), Crescent Mac & Cheese Co. was closed. I walked ALLTHEWAY from the Bayou to get mac and cheese from Crescent Pie, but nooo. They were closed. Oh well, gave me a good reason to explore the neighborhood. Lazaro’s is definitely not what I would’ve expected on the inside. I get the impression that this is more of a takeout place, being attached to Banks St. Bar, but I could be wrong. On the inside, they’ve got about six or seven GIANT booths. Like, booths you could fit 6 – 8 or even more people in. Some of them are oddly placed, so it looks like it’d be really awkward to get into the booth, but once you’re there it’d be comfy. It’s actually kind of nice on the inside, with the giant booths and all. You go order from a half door/window thing, and the pizzas are enormous, as well. If you’re out with a group in Mid-City and looking for some good pizza or just straight up drunk food, I’d say Lazaro’s is an excellent choice. I’m looking forward to going back!

I was at a crawfish boil when I saw a menu for this place– it advertised the best pizza in New Orleans. I have to say that I was quite impressed. I have a sick obsession with pizza and its hard to find a good pie down south. The slices were big– a large pie is definitely a full 18 inches and the slices are actually thin like a real New York style pizza. There was a great sauce: cheese ratio and the taste was great. We ordered at the window and it took about 35 minutes until it was ready, but there was a bar next store so you can have a drink while you wait if you need to. The guy who helped us was super-friendly and even gave me the $ 2 discount that you can get off of a large pie if it is your first time there. DEFINITELYRECOMMEND!

Lazaro’s Pizza is simply the best pizza in town. The ingredients are fresh, the dough is thin and perfect, the sauce is not overdone(like one reviewer also stated and which unfortunately, a LOT of other pizza places do), the pizzas are HUGE and selection of toppings is great. My girlfriend and I have turned numerous friends on to this place, who now find excuses to come to our place just so they can order. Poker night got a lot more popular. However, I have admit(and I hate to) that the service is wobbly and interior of the place looks like someone converted a garage to a pizza place. Not dirty, but just well, not inviting. But seriously, I can forgive everything, because their pizza is that good. In fact, writing this review is making me hungry for their pizza.

The best pizza you can get in New Orleans, New York Style. I stumbled on this place while at Banks St Bar located right next door. Fell in love with their pizza. The crust is nice and thin, very cripsy. Sauce is not over done and just the right amount of cheese and toppings. They are open late and nothing beats a pizza joint like this one.

I love this place. I crave this place. I drive the long miles and wait for long times for this place. The pizza is totally different from anything else in town. Don’t go for the ambiance, go for the food. It’s in a weird spot, but it’s worth it.

Absolutely best New York pizza west of New York City and I’ve eaten pizza all over this country. I used to be a Venezia and Mark Twain guy for years and years and now after trying it for the first time, I am totally convinced that Lazaro’s is absolutely the very best in New Orleans, hands down! No one comes close!

I don’t know if Lazaro’s is the«best pizza joint in New Orleans,» as the previous reviewer stated, but they do make one fine N.Y. style pie. That is, the bottom is thin and crispy(but not too much), and the outer crust is just crispy enough to be soft inside. They don’t over-load the toppings, which is a mistake some make and leads to uncooked dough in the middle and awkward handling. No, see all the ingredients have to be in proportion to each other, spread over the 18″+(big!) surface area of the pizza. And Lazaro’s does a great job of doing that. I’ve been twice and both times got the«pick 5» option since my gal is vegetarian. You can’t really go wrong on the toppings, they all taste fresh and delicious, but if I may recommend: sun dried tomatoes, feta, garlic(surpisingly adds a lot of flavor!), basil, artichokes, and roasted red peppers. I may sneak in and buy myself a meat lovers or try a pizza with the hot sausage one day. Anyways, the pizza is delish, but I can’t go off and give a place five stars just for having a good pizza. What Lazaro’s lacks is environment. Not that the inside of the restaurant is bad or anything, it just feels incomplete. Needs a little finishing, let’s say. There’s local artwork and stuff, a TV too, but I don’t know, something needs work in there. It looks like they put it all together in a very short period of time. Perhaps that’s the look they’re going for, «under construction» or something, but I just don’t find myself wanting to eat in there. I know, or rather, I’ve heard that you can order Lazaro’s from inside Banks St. Bar, but I’m not exactly sure how that works because the window to Lazaro’s is like right behind the stage and Banks St. always has someone playing. Maybe you have to go through the bartender. Either way, I wouldn’t like to eat at Banks St. Bar neither because one, the bands are loud and sometimes annoying, and two, it’s smoky as hell in there. Of course, none of this changes the fact that Lazaro’s makes a stellar pizza, which for me, is just a block away from my own dinner table where I can enjoy it at home.

The best pizza joint in New Orleans is a little out of the way(unless you frequent Banks Street Bar, which is next door and serves Lazaro’s pizza through the window). We moved in nearby not long after they opened and happened to order a pizza on our first night at our new place, since we weren’t unpacked yet. We met the owner and he told us how everything is super fresh and made in house.(You can see all of the dough balls in the fridge when you go to the counter to order.) We couldn’t believe our tastebuds when we got home and tried a slice. Since then, we’ve introduced numerous friends to Lazaro’s pizza, and now they all look for an excuse to come to our house and order one. Multiple friends agree… it’s the best pizza in the city. These babies are giant and soooooo good.(I recommend getting one with spinach, feta and garlic. Yum.) I hope more people find out about Lazaro’s, because we love our local pizza place so much! They do delivery, but I’m not sure what their delivery range is.(We just walk over to order.) Even if you’re out of delivery range, this pizza is worth the drive, I promise.

Rockin’ New York style pizza. Last time I check they deliver until the wee hours of the morn’ though as other people have noted it’s usually a 50 minute wait. While it is true that the delivery boys do appear stoned at times(as previous reviewers mentioned) that’s kinda what I dig about the place. One time my friend and I ordered a pizza after going out but passed out(with the door open!!!) before the pizza was delivered. Anyway… I woke up to two totally baked delivery boys on the porch shouting«HELLOOOOO??? PIZZA…» I payed them and share a couples slice with them. In short, good people good pizza.
