Throughout my travels I have been to many universities and the hallmark of a university is its library. This place however is a disaster. The state needs to tear this whole big smelly thing down and start over. The wifi in here is spotty at best and the study carrells are impossible. This building is a strong example of what budget cuts have done to Louisiana’s colleges and universities. Earl K. Long library is a disgrace.

When I was at UNO, I spent many hours doing research here and yeah, generally just wasting time between classes as I «worked» on the internet. I always found everything I needed here and although I remember the staff being a little«out of it» when it came to finding certain periodicals, for the most part this place got the job done. You can go on the Earl K Long Library website and use their search feature to make sure that the library has what you are looking for before you go in and waste your time searching through the stacks.

In my many years as a student the Earl K Long Library was a great resource for research materials and journals when working on projects and writing papers. These days they are(somewhat slowly) modernizing. Most of the periodicals are all digital, which means I can access them from home or in a lab in the Engineering building. The lower floor has the standard things you’d expect: computer labs, copy machine area, book stacks, study rooms, etc. The really interesting parts are upstairs, such as the Louisiana Collection. It’s a solid collegiate library. If they don’t have something they can get an inter-library loan for it if you can wait for things to come in.

This is the Library for the entire UNO campus and so it can be a bit hectic(and a bit disheveled) at times. But upgrades are happening and they do have wifi but it is limited to current students and faculty, like most universities. The main reason for the 4 stars is the Louisiana Collection which is quite good here.
