This place is great, but I am somewhat torn to determine if this is a restaurant with a bar or a bar with food. It looks like a casual eatery, with a bar in the center of the restaurant, and is small(maybe 100 people can fit in here?). Our group of 9 was welcome in the back of the restaurant, as they had a long table to accommodate us all. The staff was friendly and helpful. I know that red beans and rice is popular in New Orleans, but not as a dish! I had the Red Beans and Rice with 2 pieces of Fried Chicken… not the other way around. The fried chicken skin was crispy and tasty, yet not greasy. I thought this was a smart idea, because the meats were interchangeable(sausage was either an alternative or an add-on) Good dish! Though the flavor of the dish was good and hearty, I thought I’d try some Crystal Hot Sauce on it — nope! That spice was too much for me, I should have kept my dish as-is. It was a simple entrée, but filling and enough for me — I pretty much finished everything on my plate, in addition to the sample platter I helped munch on with my colleagues. I also managed to snag a bite of the sausage on his red beans and rice place(he got the fried chicken and sausage) — juicy, meaty, and easy to bite into(not a hard/thick casing). Other items tried: * The Bayou Appetizer was a crowd-pleaser — we munched on this through dinner. It comes with fried crawfish, oysters, shrimp and crab claws. Comes with two dipping sauces: cocktail and horseradish dipping. Both were good with everything on that plate. * Crabmeat-stuffed jalapeño peppers: deep-fried peppers about 2.5″, filled with crabmeat. The horseradish dipping sauce is great to dunk them in, but once you bite into them, brace yourself for some spice! The burning doesn’t last, however. * Duck Quesadilla — it was surprisingly not salty, as I predicted the duck to be. The meat melts in your mouth, but this is topped with lots of sour cream! Other notes: * Food here is served fast, even for a group * Pricing is great — everything is under $ 20 * Dessert they don’t have any — when we asked for it, they suggested beer and whiskey * They serve rabbit here, in case you have a hankering to try it

While many will defame coops as a rude dive bar, I found a true local majesty to this unassuming pub. The folks working here make there living providing some of the most excellent food and drinks of New Orleans to visitors and locals alike. The owners and full of attitude and love, much like all our families. If you come here with love and humility, you will experience New Orleans in a pure form.

Unless you come at/before opening or a non-peak hour time, then expect there to be a line that’ll take you maybe 30 – 45 minutes to get through. I came during opening(11AM) so was seated right away. Is it worth waiting in line for Coop’s? Circumstantially – read below. I got myself these items: 1) Coop’s Taste Plate — A cup of seafood gumbo, shrimp creole, one piece of cajun fried chicken, red beans & rice with sausage, and rabbit & sausage jambalaya 2) Sazerac Both of these items made for a great lunch. From the taste plate, my favorites were the fried chicken and the red beans & rice. The chicken was juicy and taste. The red beans tasted smoky and delicious. If it’s your first time here I’d recommend this dish so you can sample the goodness they have to offer. Otherwise, I don’t think you’ll go wrong just getting their fried chicken or jambalaya plate(what they’re known for). I didn’t like how they opened about 15 minutes later than the posted time – it’s called false advertisement. I have to knock off a star for that. I don’t think that this place is a must-go-to restaurant but will be worth your time if you can get a seat without having to wait so long.

I see why this place, is raved, and reviewed as much as it is! It definitely lives up to the hype!.. I started my meal with a small house Salad with the Green Goddess dressing. I loved all the mixed greens, and the dressing packed a lot of flavor in that small ramekin, lol. Personally I just wasn’t a fan of the cup of Red Beans & Rice. I’m known as a picky eater, and it just had a little too much going on for me. Next for my main meal, I had the Panned Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo, let me start by saying it was AMAZING!!! The chicken breast was huge and breaded perfectly, it was so crispy, and didn’t break away from the chicken as I cut it, which speaks alot for how perfect it was prepared. Next the Alfredo sauce had a nice new touch, I hadn’t experienced before, it was very garlicky, but not in a bad way! It was just perfect the pasta complimented the chicken so well! This dish is a must try, if your not really into all the creole, and Cajun flavorings. This is a simplistic, flavorful, dish! Thanks, Coop’s Place!

Who knew that the grungiest looking restaurant was also the one that housed the best damn fried chicken I’ve ever had. Forreal though, if you happen to take a peak in, you’d think this place was for bikers only. Don’t let that or the line outside intimidate you though. Just go grab a hurricane somewhere, and wait: The food at Coop’s is SO worth it. I’d say this was probably the best meal I had in NOLA. Maybe not the best service but definitely the best food. If you happen to order anything besides the jumbalaya and the coleslaw as a side to your fried chicken, the waitress will probably give you her judgey face and say, «you don’t want to do that.» Just do what she says. I did but mostly in fear. Although I am now happy to say that that was probably the best decision for me.

Came here because I really wanted to eat crab claws. We got the marinated crab claws which were very good. I imagined they would be served hot, but they were actually cold and served kind of like a crab cocktail. We also ended up ordering the shrimp and crawfish étouffée. While it wasn’t on the menu, we had asked if they served it and they did. The shrimp and crawfish étouffée was amazing. The sauce was flavorful and spicy and makes you have dreams about eating another bowl. This place is super divey but surprisingly very popular. We came on a Sunday night around 6pm and it had a wait outside. Luckily, our wait was short since we were only a party of two. My two complaints were: 1) the food took forever. We seriously waited close to an hour for our food. And 2) the service. Our waiter sounded like Iago the parrot from Aladdin. He probably has ADD and probably is an aspiring actor or comedian. He kept yelling at everyone and if you had your cell phone out, he would harass you until you put it away or threatened to take it from you. Then, another waitress, starts yelling at him to stop harassing her tables. Basically, it was just too much yelling. He seemed a bit like a loose cannon that we were afraid to ask him why our food was taking so long. I would still eat here again but I would hope that he wasn’t working that night.

As soon as we landed and checked into our hotel, I noticed that Coop’s is just around the corner from our hotel… and Coop’s has been in my bookmark for years! I am so glad to knock this place off my list. First thing I noticed: This place is a dive bar! I don’t normally go to bars… I don’t remember ever visiting a dive bar. Ever. No worries though, the server was friendly, efficient and friendly. I wish I was able to get her name. She made serving the full dining area seem easy. She seems to be able to come at the right time for the right thing, always circulating, but not aimlessly amongst the patrosm. I bookmarked this place because of the gumbo so I HAD to order the gumbo. So glad I did. It was very good. We also ordered a lunch platter with Cajun Chicken and jambalaya. Jambayala was OK. The fried chicken was the best fried chicken I’ve had in a long time. I should have ordered more. But I wanted to save room for all the other food adventures we were about to embark upon.

This is the worst service I’ve ever(not) received and I’ve never met anyone as rude as the red-haired waitress here. This was my first time in N’Orleans, so I had never seen this lady before in my life. She acted erratically and looked directly at me and then refused to speak to me or take my order – she just turned on her heel and walked away, multiple times. Luckily there was a nice guy at the table next to me that graciously grabbed her attention and ordered for me which is how I was able to get a drink. My friend ordered an entrée for us to share, which is how I was able to get dinner(which I recall being good). A very strange and disappointing start to my friend’s bachelorette party trip, especially since I recommended our group go here after reading so many great Unilocal reviews about it.

When multiple locals tell you to visit Coop’s, you need to listen and visit Coop’s. Sadly, this was my last meal in NOLA but may have been one of my best ones. As others had mentioned, it’s a dive but who cares because the staff is nice and the food is excellent. There were so many things on the menu that I wanted to try but I went with the Taste of Coop’s to sample as much as possible at one time. The seafood gumbo was the best I had the entire trip. It was so flavorful even before adding any hot sauces. It was a blast finding full pieces of seafood in my bowl. I ordered my taste plate with a chicken breast upgrade. It came out with a wing and a little cold. They happily sent it back and got me a new platter. It was SO good. Although I’ve been adventurous with meat lately, I was a little nervous about the rabbit in their jambalaya. The jambalaya was mixed so well that I couldn’t even tell it was in there, it just tasted good. I’m sure most folks already know what red beans and rice, shrimp creole and cajun chicken taste like so I’ll save my breath and your time by not going through each description. Let me just say, that each one exemplified what each food should taste like. It’s a shame I was leaving shortly after this meal. I may have broken my rule about trying a new place for every meal. It was THAT good.

One business name kept flowing unsolicited from NOLA locals during our recent visit. «Go to Coop’s Place.» «Have you been to Coop’s Place?» «Get the fried chicken at Coop’s Place.» It was determined that we couldn’t leave NOLA without visiting Coop’s Place. And thank goodness! What a find. Located in the busy and touristy French Quarter, you could almost walk right by if you’re not paying attention. Once inside, wait to be seated at a table or at their bar. We were there midday on a Monday and the space was packed with a steady influx of happy customers, so I assume it’s even busier during peak hours. I was battling apparent seasickness from an earlier swamp tour, so I avoided drinking anything alcoholic. I mentioned how I was feeling to our nice server, and she suggested«soda water with bitters» to help.(See picture attached.) I couldn’t place the flavor, but it did seem to cure some of the unease/pain. I’ve never heard of that! For my meal, I selected the Cajun Fried Chicken with cole slaw and subbed the Jambalaya for fries on account of spices and rabbit sausage. I forgot to request two chicken breasts for the upcharge, but it was fine. I really enjoyed the meat nonetheless, although in a weird way, the cole slaw stole the show. Yes. Cole slaw. I’ve never been a cole slaw fan, but theirs was out of this world. Seriously so good. Get the cole slaw. And extras. Coop’s was our last meal and arguably best meal while visiting NOLA. I’d go again in a heartbeat.

Visiting N.O. For a culinary weekend of eating, I stopped in here for appetizers. We came for the duck but ended up with the lamb ribs, stuffed japs and mojitos. I love lamb. If it is on the menu I will order it. Coops are hands down the best I have ever had. We went to many places over the four days of eating New Orleans. And this was the meal of the weekend. Fantastic.

This is definitely a place for the locals. Small bar with really good food. I had the taste plate and everything on it was great. It also came with the gumbo and I ate every bite. The taste plate had fried chicken and I’m not a huge fan of fried food but that chicken was delicious. My husband had the Shrimp Alfredo and he devoured it. We had hurricanes to drink. I told my waitress I liked mine a little sweeter and the bartender made it just the way I like it. I would definitely come here again. The only turn off for me and the reason I didn’t give this restaurant 5 stars was because one of the waiters stood up and got the attention of the whole restaurant to shout that in America 20% is a standard tip. Unprofessional.

First off, there is a short wait to get in. and there is a reason for that… food is GREAT. I had the shrimp Alfredo, just the right amount of shrimp to pasta. This is one of my favorite dishes, i had no complaints and finished the whole plate… The wife had the sampler platter, she loved it… All in all this is a very good find if you are down this way, a lot of locals eat here and for good reason. the food is amazing, and the staff is friendly as well. Drinks made to order, you don’t like your hurricane strong? they will sweeten it up for you :) All in all i will make this a staple when visiting NOLA… great place, great folks and most important, GREAT food.

Cool atmosphere, but a meh experience. My friends and I tried coming here for dinner on a weekday night(around 8pm) and there was a huge line. So we came back a few days later, and were able to get seated right away. We had a group of 5 and were seated at a table right near the entrance, which would have been fine if there weren’t other open tables that we could have sat at. But the restaurant was still fairly empty, and my friend’s seat was almost blocking the entrance, which was a little bit awkward. We tried to move the table over a bit but then the waitress got a little snappy and told us that we couldn’t. Okay. Anyway… the food — when we asked her what she recommended, she sounded a little stuck-up and recited«We’ve been here for a long time, everything on the menu is very good.» I ordered the pasta jambalaya, which was really salty IMO. If I were to ever come back to NOLA and this restaurant again, I would definitely order something else. I gave the shrimp to my friends and ate the rest of the pasta dish only cause I was starving and just needed to get food in my stomach ASAP. But one thing I thought was cool, was that at one point, the waitress yelled out loud to the entire restaurant and offered free beers to anyone that wanted it. I’m not a beer drinker so I didn’t order one but I thought this made the restaurant feel home-y. NOSPLITCHECKS — bring cash if you’re with friends, or have one person pay for the bill & split later.

Cool dive-y place!!! You will have to wait in line. but it went relatively quickly. B and I sat at the bar and I tried the gumbo(yum) and the duck quesadilla which was… AWESOME. Okokokokkk I know I should be raving about the gumbo and other stuff but I am still thinking about that duck quesadilla…

I still can’t get over quite how cheap this place is. The same NOLA tourist food as everywhere else but the BYO policy, gloriously friendly(and very tolerant) staff and mad low prices mean we eat here one night on all our trips. The pasta is strangely delicious — even though it’s not made in house they manage to do something to it to make it perfect. Not an obvious choice from a French creole menu but I loved it. Cheap as chips drinks. No bookings but On a Saturday night with a party of 8 they seated us in less than half an hour. Do it.

One of my favorite restaurants in New Orleans. The rabbit and sausage Jambalaya puts all other Jambalaya’s to shame, The fried chicken is amazing. Cheap drinks. Usually a wait and snarky waitstaff, but this time no wait, and super nice waitress. I try to force my NOLA family and friends here with me ever time I visit. It never disappoints.

I’m so bummed I only got to eat here once during my stay. Great food, it’s always crowded and sometimes there’s a line outside even for seats at the bar. They make the best spicy bloody mary and they toss in pickled green beans. I miss it already. They also have the best fried shrimp I’ve ever had. I know it’s a simple thing but they did it really well, the breading has a little bit of citrus and is just so, so freakin good. The tomato based dipping sauce it comes with is a little sweet and also delicious. Gumbo is also a winner. Friendly people at the oddly shaped bar, old Westerns on old TV’s. I will definitely be coming back the next time I’m in NOLA.

This restaurant inspired me to look up their health inspection rating. Man, I don’t get this place and its rating. I left unimpressed the first time and disgusted the last time I went. I would not recommend this place to anyone. It’s extremely dark inside. It’s extremely loud inside. It seemed dirtier than the normal level of dirtiness the Quarter has. The ladies room is filthy. I will judge a restaurant by how clean they keep their bathroom. I can’t help wondering if they keep their restroom in this condition, that everyone sees, what does the kitchen look like? I overlooked these things, although it would be totally unacceptable anywhere else, but i did because it’s a bar in the Quarter, after all. The food isn’t great… its just… meh… I kept finding little clumps of dust on the table. First one landed in my water, the second on the table, and the last one was on the green bean I was about to put in my mouth! I realized that the breeze coming in through the door was blowing the disgusting dirt & dust from inside, down to our plates. Uugh… my stomach still gets queezy when I think of it… Never again.
