La Michoacana

We love this place! The mango cup with chamoy, lime juice and Tajin is off the hook. My kids love the popsicles. You have to try the spicy cucumber popsicle soooooo good! The nachos are simple and perfect. The ice cream is authentic and fabulous! If you like chicharons have them here you won’t be sorry!!! Enjoy!

Man do they serve refreshing ice cream! Yes, refreshing is the adjective best describe their ice cream here. They offer many different flavors with what taste like real fruits, no imitations. It not really creamy but it has a soft like texture somewhat yogurt like. If you prefer creamy ice cream, go somewhere else. Just have to try it to taste the difference.
Regardless of what John V. has claimed, they do not serve bits of plastic in their ice cream! He was also telling people in his review to get their ice cream at Baskin Robins instead and was angry with me when i message him on these pieces of plastic he claim was consistent and accuse me of being the owner of La Michoacana as i accuse him as one for Baskin Robins as the conversation got heated :(Anyways, his review is now in the not recommended area on Unilocal because it’s just wasn’t true.
So do i have any gripes here? …not on the ice cream. It would be the scoop of ice cream they put in the cups is not consistent in the amount. I don’t get the cones so not sure if it’s the same also. The size of the scoop would either be on the small side or more than normal which i have determine from observation that it depend on who is serving the ice cream as oppose to the same server being inconsistent when scooping. Granted, this is probably true at other places too but it’s very noticeable here. One time i drove by and left cause that person who gives the smaller scoops was working that day but forgot which one it was now since i haven’t gone there in awhile and got the small scoop again just recently LOL. Also, the employees who worked there are not too attentive and seem to be in their own world which is fine with me as long as the scoop size is somewhat consistent which is not!
Regardless, the ice cream here taste great every time!

Please. make sure you change your hours. we came here on 9.12.15 at 8:35pm and your employee was mopping the floor and trying to clean up… tip: if you have your hours of operation till 9pm then keep to that. otherwise change it so people don’t keep coming and seeing it’s closed.

Pesimo servicio, las muchachitas sin nada de educacion, deven hacer un entrenamiento sobre servicio al cliente, todo riquisimo, pero de ver las caras de las chavas hacen que no disfrutes lo que ordenas!!!

Lots of various ice cream flavors, with Latin influence so it’s very unique, not your usual typical ice cream shop. Courteous and quick service. Must try!

This place is very clean and big. They have a lot of different yummy flavors and also some non ice cream stuff. The only thing I really don’t like is the teenage girls who seem to know nothing about customer service. Some days they have a good attitude and other times they suck. But whatever I guess I’ll deal with the poopy service since they have bomb ice cream. Hopefully they get better…

Horrible customer service. My friend and I were looking at the paletas, he asked what flavors they were the girl just stared at us. She was not friendly what so ever and had an attitude. Super disappointing. I will not be coming back here.

Maybe I got lucky, but the young girl that helped me was happy, friendly, and polite. And when I asked her to describe certain fruits I’d never heard of she showed me pictures of them which I thought was really nice.

Awesome ice cream and homemade popsicles. Uniques flavors and the variety of chocolate covered bananas make for a low cal treat.

i’m writing this review because we had a really bad experience at this place if i could i will GIVE THIS PLACE 5 STAR MINUS!, we wanted to buy ice cream and went to baskin robbin on grant av but they were closed already so as i was driving back on grant av, we saw this please call LA MICHOACANA ICE CREAM so we stopped by because we saw the sign open still on,
as we walked in with our 5 year old daughter there is this young lady at the counter with a really loud music playing in the store with really explicit lyrics my wife asked her do they let you listen to this kind of music in the store? she answer back yes all the time with a really bad attitude and she saw my little one and didn’t even made the effort to stop the music, as the music keep playing this really explicit song i got upset and asked her to please stop the music while we were in the store because i didn’t wanted my daughter to keep listening to that song, she answer back to me saying THIS IS NOT A KIDS STORE! I did not know that ice cream was sold for anybody but kids, and i told her i don’t see a sign that says STRIP CLUB it says Ice Cream,
so i asked her to give me a business card with the name of the owner and she said why don’t you copy the number from outside and find out who the owner is, so i told her that i felt sorry for the owner of this place for having that kind of employees running the business i will never go back there again because i think if they’re gonna run this business like a bar or strip club its not an appropriate place to go with your kids specially with this type of disrespectful employees that don’t know what respect means…

Boy do I love ice cream! They have such a variety and I love their fruit ice popsicles! They have such an adorable interior and exterior it is very welcoming!

Uh, why don’t we have one of these in the city?! Unilocaled upon this place on the way home from Sonoma today. Arroz con Leche paleta was off the HOOK, authentically Mexican, delish, my friends. The ice cream was good, but the paletas are where it’s at. Choose from like 30 flavors – spicy mango, pistachio, etc. etc. etc…
Place is big with lots of seating, but the benches out front win.

So delicious! I bought 6 ice cream bars and I’ve eaten one; rice pudding bar. They have unique flavors and great customer service!
The atmosphere is clean, bright and simple.
I can’t wait to try the other flavors.

An amazing array of ice cream, frozen fruit bars, fruit juices, and toppings… Excellent quality and flavors too! Today I had tequila ice cream and custard ice cream– both fabulous.
Go by yourself, or your friends! Super bonus: the music store two doors down is awesome!!!

I discovered this place today by accident while walking around and boy am I glad I did. If you are looking for fresh, unique, local and absolutely delicious ice cream/​sorbet this is the place.
First I learned that all the ice creams etc are made in Sonoma, Go Local! You can choose between the bars (regular or chocolate covered), ice cream (cone, cup, or chocolate waffle cone) or sorbet and they have loads of options for each. Some flavors are really unique for the more adventurous foodies. They even have refreshing drinks (aqua frescas) that looked great with fruit etc. I will have to try those next time. This time around I got the strawberry sorbet and it was like heaven. It was cold, freshly made and tasted like the ripest strawberries you have ever eaten (small, $ 2.75). It was a recommendation by the girl working at the counter and I am glad I listened.
It wasn’t busy really so the service was quick and the lady helped me narrow down my choice and was very friendly. The interior was cute and brightly colored and very clean as well.
I will be telling all my friends about this place for sure. It is my new favorite sweet retreat!

Everyone is all excited about the new ice cream place in town. It’s just too bad the new ice cream place isn’t more excited to serve customers. I visited there today and experienced service that was rude, bordering on hostile. The three young women behind the counter could not even be bothered to acknowledge me, even though I was standing there for quite some time, and in fact didn’t ever do so until another customer arrived and asked if I was in line. At that point, I was given the once over, and someone who had arrived after me was helped. Rude. Totally unnecessary and unprovoked. Treatment of other customers did not appear to be substantially better. I would suggest that management host a training session on the basic principles of customer service.
The ice cream was pretty good. I had the strawberries and cream, and it was pleasant, serviceable ice cream. One small scoop is $ 2.75. Honestly, though, it’s not good enough ice cream to make up for a totally unpleasant environment. Let’s just say that I don’t think Tuttimelon has anything to worry about. If this place sticks around long-​term, I’ll be surprised.

I’ve heard good things about this ice cream place, which opened in downtown Novato this past week (they have another location in Sonoma). Mexican-​style ice cream and sorbets are delicious, décor is stylish and modern, and it’s clean and nice. Unusual flavors include tequila, spicy pineapple, and pine nut.
I’m knocking off one star because of the teensy tiny portions of ice cream we received. When my son got his single scoop of ice cream I looked at the server and wanted to say «seriously… that’s it?» but I didn’t because she seemed a bit flustered. None of our other three scoops were any larger. I’m going to be nice and chalk it up to opening weekend jitters, because the staff, though friendly, seemed a little overwhelmed. Next time we’ll skip the sugar cones, which seemed to be the source of the problems. Actually, try the paletas, which are a bargain at $ 2 a pop (no pun intended), and come in most of the ice cream and sorbet flavors.
We’ll definitely be back!

I heard this ice cream shop was going to open and have been patiently waiting, they opened on Valentines day how perfect.
Super bright colored walls and chairs greet you when you walk in, parking in back lot or on the street. If you walk in from Grant you walk to the back of the store to start the line (a sign might be nice for customers) and they have a huge selection of delicious and unique flavors.
We got the banana split to share and tried the pistachio (so so good) Neapolitan (creamy perfection) and chocolate (rich chocolate) my kids were in heaven. They had a bunch of yogurt flavors too and everything was crazy fresh and brightly colored. I was reminded of the ice cream flavors in Delores Hidalgo (tequila ice cream, Mexican revolution, beautiful pottery, etc)
Lots of folks coming in the door, families on a Sunday, teenagers on their phones. I hope they keep coming back. This is a really wonderful addition to Grant Ave. We will be back for sure!
