Stopped for lunch on Sat at 12 being the 2nd table of the day I thought should be good. WRONG! We were there for almost 2 hours for 2 burgers and Steak tips sandwich. Our waiter was horrible my food was undercooked and my wife’s fries were overcooked. After 2 hours was given wrong bill. And was offered no explanation for Poor visit just a disaster!

Consistently excellent!!! I’ve been to town a few times in the past year and a half and every meal is ALWAYS fantastic! The service is wonderful. After our first night there, the staff always remembered our faces and even our orders! They make you feel like family. The food is AWESOME! The steaks, the BBQ. Omg! Just writing about is making my mouth water. These folks really know what they are doing!

The interior of this place is very cute, decorated with wine bottles, candles, and flowers. They have a great 2 for $ 27 deal for early bird dinner. I got the Greek gyro platter and my husband got Gus’ marinated sirloin steak. Our meal started with complimentary pasta salad and clam chowder soup. I thought my gyro platter would be served with gyro, yogurt, on top of pieces of pita, which I’m used to having in NJ. But it actually came out as a gyro wrap. The pita was unfortunately soggy at the bottom, so I only ate the gyro with lettuce/yogurt. I still liked it though and the feta salad was great. I tried a bite of my husband’s steak, and the flavor was good. He seemed to really enjoy it and commented that the meat was juicy, despite getting medium well. We ended the meal by sharing a delicous slice of cheesecake. All of that food cost only $ 27, and just under $ 30 with taxes! The food was well portioned and service was decent. A minor gripe was it was really difficult to get the ketchup out of the bottle. My hand actually hurt from slamming the bottom of the ketchup bottle. The seats were also not very comfy, but again it wasn’t a big deal. So far, Gus’ is the best restaurant I”ve tried in Norwich, and I’m likely to return soon.

well… we’ve been coming here a long time but I’m afraid this one was bad enough to stop one from coming back. restaurant wasn’t crowded but it took over an hour and a half to get our entrée. steaks were horribly cut and cold. creamed spinach was cold too. other tables got their food before us. told that they had reservations but so did we. service was fractured and mediocre at best with the exception of the young man with the blonde hair. I apologize to not have a name. finally got them to comp dinner and drinks. another point is to remove the smokers area from the back parking lot as the smoke permeates through the dining room windows. I’m sorry for the bad visit and this review but to be honest we have looked forward to the marinated filets for the last 8 or 9 years. think it’s about time the owner come back from vacation and revamp what’s happening at home because she’s going to have a failed restaurant if she doesn’t…

A decent steak house. It was nothing spectacular. In my opinion Norwich has so little to offer that you have to round up when rating restaurants here. The food was fine, I opted for the«marinated» version of the rib eye which was probably a mistake. The marinade came off really salty and sweet and I think it was soy sauce based(read very similar to teriyaki). The sides were fine, the service was just«ok.» Overall I wouldn’t eat here if they were up the street in my neighborhood but it was one of the better dinner’s that I had while staying in Norwich.

Was in the area recently and wanted a good steak. Well, this place delivered! We had the Gus steak special, marinated, and it was delicious. Attentive, friendly staff, prices were really reasonable. The décor is a bit over the top, but, hey, as long as the food and service is good, then I really don’t care what it looks like. It’s way better than any chain steakhouse that I am used to going to. Hubs and I are seasonal residents, and we will surely be back again to try more menu items.

So I had to drive to Norwich in a raging Nor’easter. Rain, ice and snow. I’ve driven by Gus and never stopped, always on the way somewhere else. Stuck in town and if you’ve Unilocaled you know there’s not a lot of choices here. That’s the bad news. Here’s the good. This roadhouse looking joint serves a GREAT steak. Try the NY strip marinated. Add some really good creamed spinach then skin on potato wedges. I’ve dined in some of the best steakhouses in NYC and beyond and this is on par. Dedicated bartender makes a great martini as well. The only fault I can think of is the wedges need a garlic dipping sauce. Otherwise an amazing experience. Hats Off Gus!

Good wings. I’m not sure I’d ever find myself in Norwich(lovely area tho). I think the bartender is trying hard to be creative and offered some of his funky creations(was sort of douchey with the hard sell tho). From the looks around Norwich, it’s probably one of the go to places. If you own a summer house up here it’s probably an option…

Best restaurant in Norwich by a long margin it seems. It doesn’t really have any extra frills, but the meat is good and well cooked. I’ve eaten here a few times on business trips and while I’ve never been outright overwhelmed by their food, it’s always impressed me. The inside is clean, and have never had an issue with the temperature in there as well. The waitresses can be a bit cranky near the end of the night as well. Recommend this place over anywhere in Norwich, NY.

Steaks are always so tender and delicious! The wait staff is friendly and always helpful. The prices unfortunately are a little high(even for items that aren’t steak!).

Finally had enough from this place. We’ve had several mediocre to bad dining experiences there but the most recent was the end for us. My wife ordered grilled chicken, it was so dry she couldn’t eat it it. I had a steak, after all it is a steak house. I order medium, the steak looked great. Looks can be deceiving though, it was the toughest steak I’ve ever had. Service was slow. Prices are high. I wanted to like this place but way too many bad meals. Sorry.

Went here for a late lunch a last week, the reviews were good and I remember my dad talking about this place. Let me just say that our waitress was VERY nice and that we had no issues at all with the service. I ordered the Shrimp cocktail which was not very fresh, they were soft and didn’t taste quite right. I’m guessing they were not thawed properly or had been thawed to long. I also had their New England Clam Chowder which did not have many clams, the ones that were in there weren’t very chewy like you would expect. Then I had the Double Cut Ribeye with mashed potatoes. Before I even touched my plate I could see that the potatoes were really soupy. The steak(which i did not have marinated, I’ll touch on that more later) lacked any sort of flavor at all. It did not taste like steak, it tasted like nothing at all. The potatoes were instant. My wife had the same problem with her entrée. For a appetizer she had a crab filled portabello. The mushroom was waterlogged but was edible, certainly not something either one of us would have again. For her soup she chose the lobster bisque, which had a strong taste of soap. Now as for the steaks tasting very bland… When you order they ask you if you want your steak plain or marinated. I have to assume that they offer the marinade because the plain steaks aren’t any good. I will not be coming back here. None of the food we had tasted fresh or as if it had been prepared properly.

We just left Gus’ from our first visit there and feel like we just left our favorite relatives house. We were treated like royalty, well fed, and warmly welcomed and hugged. Maria and her family(the owners) couldn’t be nicer. The food was homemade and deliciously. Gus homemade cheesecake was amazing(get it with the blueberry on top. Oh so yummy). It also has no crust, so great for gluten free people. We can’t wait to go back. Thank you Maria for the great food and hospitality.

Delicious food, pleasant atmosphere, and great prices! I have eaten at Gus’ countless times since it opened and loved my food every time, I’ve tried a lot of items on the menu and they have all been great, my personal favorites being the steak and coconut shrimp combo and their prime rib(it melts in your mouth). You can’t go wrong with getting any of their steaks, and you have the option to have them marinated or plain. The sides are excellent — I love the steak fries and the baked sweet potato with cinnamon butter — and the appetizer platter is a great plate to share if you’re with a group. They have specials every day and while they aren’t always something brand new they are always delicious and very reasonably priced. I have heard great things about their desserts(and they always sound delicious) but personally I never have room for them! The service here is wonderful, the bartenders are pleasant, the hostess is very welcoming and we are almost always seated immediately. The wait staff is very nice and professional, of all the times I’ve been there 99% of the time the service was excellent. The 1% is due to a couple of times when we had one particular waitress and had ordered appetizers, soup/salad course, and entrée and we felt a little rushed as the waitress brought the appetizer out, salad right after, and the entrée two minutes after that — but I’m not sure that she still works there, and she may have been new to waiting tables at that point. Either way, Gus’ gets five stars for me, best steakhouse you can find in Central NY!

A very pleasant find in a small town. Food was awesome, prices were great, and the service was fantastic. The food came out in a very timely manner and it was done to perfection. It takes talent to do such a great job and these guys have it.

Gus’ Steakhouse was a great random find during my travels throughout New York State. It’s been quite some time since I last visited, but I had great experiences here and it’s on my «must visit» list for that area. The service was excellent, the food was better than excellent, and the prices were reasonable. I’m a big fan of steakhouses, especially good ones, and this my friends is a good one. The last time I went here, it was at the end of a sort of «last hurrah» with my team. We ate well, that’s for sure, and our meals were all perfect. Our steaks came out cooked exactly as requested. Thinking about this place as I write this review is making me pretty damn hungry, argh. One of my people decided to try to be a hero and attempted the challenge. He failed miserably. Pro Tip: Just because you’re «really hungry,» does not mean that you can defeat an eating challenge at a steakhouse. If you’re in the Norwich area and you’re in the mood for a steak, it’s my opinion that Gus’ Steakhouse is where you need to go.

I was on business last week that landed me in the Norwich area. This is a great place to eat! WOW… not only is the food out of this world but the cocktails before dinner were great! I ended up eating here two nights and it just got better and better. When I’m back in the area I will be eating dinner at Gus’s only.

My wife had the ribs. also great. The lobster bisque was great. And my wife loved the creamed spinach(yuk! :)) Everything about our meal was great. Im scared to go back because i not sure if they can pull off this level of food and service again. im j/k ill be back whenever im close to Norwich.
