We stopped in here last week on our way back from the Maine coast. The food was delicious, and most everything is home-made. Bought a loaf of bread from their bakery case— the Best bread I have eaten in a long time! It beats the ones from 2 bakeries in Vermont we usually purchase from. Thumbs up!

I’ve been coming to Johnson’s for years and never had a bad experience until today. The service was excruciatingly slow, granted it is a summer Sunday but but from sit down to check out was almost two hours. The food was mediocre at best. I wanted a simple BLT but that wasn’t on the menu so I opted for the Buffalo Chicken Wrap. According to the menu it came with blue cheese dressing but mine didn’t and was dry as a bone. My wife ordered the lobster roll which was very dry as well. Then came dessert. Locally famous for their ice cream I was very much looking forward to my usual rum raisin cone. To be honest it was the whole reason I suggested going there in the first place. Apparently they changed ice cream vendors and no longer have my beloved flavor. I skipped the ice cream dessert and left very disappointed. Seems that the change of ownership is starting to impact the quality of service. I for one do not plan a return visit anytime soon.

I wanted to give it a better review after locals told me that I should go. Sorry, can’t find myself doing more than a 3.5. The good. Seems clean. Food was not bad, just nothing special. The bad. The very young(probably new summer help) is basically clueless with no guidance. My server didn’t know the size difference between their small and large lobster roll. At the table next to me, an older couple was so frustrated, they almost left when neither the hostess or their server knew if the could hold the chicken on a pizza Flatbread. My lobster roll was good but I’ve had much better. Too much celery and mayo. GOODNOTE! They have a ‘dairy barn’. The sundaes are amazing. Enough for 2. You can dine in, eat casually on the patio or get it to go. I would say try it to the entrees but MUSTTRY the desserts.

Coleslaw was from a jar. Baked potato was dry. Baked stuffed haddock was bland and the«crab» was mostly thick bread chunks like Thanksgiving stuffing. Batter on fish and chips was thick and doughy. «Kiddie» size icecream is half a gallon of icecream. Waitress showed no sense or urgency and had an attitude. Only reason why I would go back would be for a pit stop at the bar which had 48 drafts but I wouldn’t eat there again.

Food is mediocre at best, fairly tasteless and the environment leaves much to be desired. The fresh baked good and ice cream looked great but by the time we were done with our meals we were discouraged and left.

I have been here many times and usually had a great meal. I love the new atmosphere and bar. However tonight was different. We were sat, then waited for a waitress. Finally got drinks. We placed our order of fried mushrooms, whole belly clams and fish and chips. Mushrooms were good and plentiful. The waitress never asked us if we wanted a 2nd drink and our dinner took forever. When it did arrive the fish was rancid. They did replace the meal with whole belly clams for my husband. That was great, however when the bill arrived we found out the clams were 29.99 $. Glad we only had to pay for one serving. Next time we will ask what the ‘market price’ is. Also we had dirty tables around us the whole time. It was an unfortunate evening to be there. Hopefully next time it will be better.

They have finished the construction/bar addition, been back a few times and they are back to the good old days, plus a huge beer list. Had fish and chips, it was perfect.

Had dinner there tonite and all was awesome! Beer selection was excellent, seafood as well. Had a party of 12 and were seated quickly, waiter was great and informative about both the beer menu and beer menu! Food was hot when brought to the table and everyone was happy! A great night for all! Will definitely be back!

First time there, wasn’t what I had heard. Baked potatoes were Luke warm, steamers looked like they were around for a while and reheated. Didn’t get to finish the appetizers before the main meal came. I heard heard raving reviews from other people but we were not impressed in the least and won’t be going back.

This was recommended by my aunt, so we stopped on our way to Maine. We got the broccoli cheddah soup, it wasn’t great but ok, and we each got salads. It was a good meal and I would stop there again.

Fly city… don’t go there unless you don’t mind a gazillion flies on you and your food.

Good place to stop for ice cream. The portions are HUGE! The ice cream itself is decent, with lots of flavors to choose from. I like mint chocolate chip, and it was ok. My wife had a peanut butter something, and she really enjoyed it. We should have ordered the kiddie size, because we never finished even the small.

Great ice cream stand. The sizes are humongous. The kids behind the counter are adorable and friendly.

Been here many times in the past and had pleasant experience. Today seems up to a bad start. The host was ok, showed us to table and disappeared. Waitress is nice and pleasant. Problem start when I ask for items on the menu and they could not or choose not to deliver. I ordered a Lazyman Lobster, waitress went to check and came back to say that they don’t have it. I asked if they have lobster she confirms that they do so I ask why not break up a lobster and serve it. Oh NO, we don’t do that she says. Why not! isn’t that what a Lazyman lobster is. Yes she says but they will not do that, mind you that I could care less about what they charge I just wanted what is reasonable request. Well I had to order regular lobster. Got the meal and finished in peace. This entire experience can be summed in 2 words(BADMANAGEMENT). I don’t blame employees for that, I blame the management. We are from Houston, TX and regularly come up to Northwood, NH to visit family and always went to Johnson’s for Lobster. Other family members may continue this tradition but I will not. Thank you Johnson’s for the memories and GOODBYE.

Stopped in here today for a late lunch in the middle of an «Antique Alley» run with my parents. There was no wait and we sat in the newly finished bar area. Great beer list and our bartender was incredibly nice.(I think her name was Holly). The fish and chips were buy one, get one free on Tuesdays so that’s what my parents ordered and they said it was excellent. My lobster roll was delicious, great size for the price. We also split a strawberry shortcake for dessert and it was awesome. If I’m up in the area again, I wouldn’t hesitate to stop for lunch or dinner. Thank you!

Excellent fried clams and lobster. Loving NH and a whole lobster for $ 16. The clams were tender and flavorful. The deserts looked excellent but we were stuffed. The ice cream choices were extensive. Beautiful place, great atmosphere.

We stopped here on our way home from our nephew’s graduation. The back part of the restaurant was under construction but that didn’t stop us from having a wonderful lunch. I’ve passed this place a hundred times and have never stopped. I don’t know why. That giant can’t-miss ‘lobster & ice cream’ sign should have wrangled me in sooner than this, for sure. Only in New Hampshire. I had the haddock nuggets and they were delish. Fat and chunky, filled with fresh fish. And my plate overfloweth, Seriously, it was a plate meant for Paul Bunyan. Great for me: I got two meals in one and I packed up what was left for dinner tonight. My husband got the pulled chicken sandwich. The BBQ sauce was sweet and the chicken was tender. I took a bite — I know what I’m getting next time around. Great prices. We walked away with a small tab for a family of four — not bad. And everyone was satisfied. Our server(Kelly or Kerry) was an absolute doll. I would encourage you to ask for her next time you go in, but I’m not quite sure about the name. It’s my age. I forget everything after five minutes. What was I talking about?

I love the food. The seafood is awesome, and I love the ice cream during the summer & the outdoor seating during the summer. It can be a little on the pricey side, so I suggest this to be a place to come to on «special occasion».

Ok, so I am not going to write off Johnson’s Just yet, had a lot of good experiences there. But today can be a sign of troubles. We were greeted by the hostess as soon as we walked in and were seated promptly. she was very pleasant. After about 15 minutes, our waitress decided she was bored enough to grace us with her presence. She took our drink orders, and asked if we needed a few more minutes to ponder the menu. We asked for diet soda, and ordered our food. We also asked what kind of beers they had, she said she would have to bring us a drink menu(No knowledge of products… REDFLAG). She comes out with the drink menu and tosses it on the table. I ordered the Prime Rib, baked potato, & cole slaw. She comes back with our Sodas, and without asking us if we want a beer or cocktail. We said we were going to get a beer but since our soda came she then cut in and said we didn’t need it. Um OK moron, no one asked your opinion I was thinking, but I grit my teeth. She then comes back and says she forgot to ask how I wanted my Prime Rib done, I said Medium Well, which is warm, most pink gone, What I got was a still mooing cow, cold potato, and cole slaw that was mediocre at best. She dumps the food down, and bolts. She never came over to check how the food was, so no opportunity to complain. she then comes over to ask if we want desert, I asked for the ice cream list. She had to run and fetch it, I asked for the Milky Way Ice Cream, she said they have a new ice cream company and did away with it, so I had to look it over, she said ok, left and came back 5 minutes later. I ordered and she smirked as she walked away. In short the service and food were both horrible.

The Lobster Roll rocks! Seriously amazing flavor and a great roll with huge chunks of lobster. Best I have had, we also had the clam chowder and it was amazing also. We did not go into the restaurant for table service, we just hit up the walk up window for to-go food. Fun, friendly staff. We will NEED to come back.
