Nu-Concepts

In 2015, we called Nu Concepts to bid on the replacement of 22 windows in a home we recently purchased. Steve, the owner, came out and met with us. We expressed to Steve that our primary goal in replacing our windows was to reduce exterior noise, mainly road noise from a busy intersection near our home. We were clear with our desire to keep the noise out. Steve recommended Climate Solutions Windows. We were promised that these windows would dramatically reduce road noise coming into our home. We pulled the trigger and had 22 new windows installed. After our windows were installed, it took no time at all to realize that the Climate Solutions Windows we purchased did nothing more than the original windows to stop exterior noise.
After installation, I complained to Steve about the noise coming into my home through the windows. I pushed, and pushed, and Steve came back twice to listen to the noise. At my insistence, Steve educated himself, just as I have, on glass for noise reduction. He has offered a solution– replace our existing glass with sound reducing laminated glass. We will be responsible for the cost of both the new glass and the factory installation of the glass. The cost is approximately half the price we paid Nu Concepts initially for the windows and installation. We should have been presented this option initially. I would have paid the extra money for the upgraded sound reducing glass.
Steve has owned and operated Nu Concepts for over 30 years. His list of clients is long, and the pictures of his work are impressive, but he clearly never had to deal with a client who needed to reduce road noise. I have done hours of research since purchasing these windows. I learned that large window manufacturers (i.e. Marvin, Anderson, Jeldwen) test their windows for sound transmission. They provide STC and OITC ratings to quantify sound transmission. We expected that a reputable window replacement company, such as Nu Concepts, would have listened to our concern about road noise and taken the time to educate us about laminated glass and sound transmission, before making such a large sale, but that did not happen. After this experience, I would not recommend Nu Concepts or Climate Solutions Windows.
