If you’ve got money to blow, and are a fan of art, and toys, and toys that are art, and art about toys, and cool junk like that, FOE is the place to be! They sell a nice selection of vinyl toys, plushies, other crazy figures, ‘Zines, books, and all manner of wacky ephemera, and display monthly curated art exhibits as well! The staff are friendly and knowledgeable and always ready to discuss items in the store. And while some items are on the very expensive side, there are plenty of amusing things to satisfy the browser. Yeah, sometimes just browsing can make you feel a little bit like an @ssh*le, but even us broke mofos like looking at cool, colorful stuff and going«ooh» and«ahh» even if we can’t afford to buy. Seriously, stop by! Especially if you’re into comics, graffiti, toys, monsters, robots, or other«pop» art!

FOE is life. Indie arts life. I previously reviewed their old location on Pleasant Street, which was great, but I didn’t realize how much I would love FOE on Main Street. It’s bright white tin walls and ceiling, a huge gallery corridor for hanging(and figural smalls, on shelves) art, all overlooking Main Street from a big wide window. There’s always a show going on, organized thematically, for instance: local artists, monsters, single-artist shows, etc. Owners Jim and Nicole are lovely people who are both active participants in the alternative arts and the local community. They recently collaborated with a local indie artist and an indie art toy maker to create a fundraiser for Safe Passage, a local domestic violence shelter organization. The FOE gallery showcases custom and blind-box toys, zines, skate decks, paintings, prints, stickers, soap, and just endless formats and platforms of art awesomeness. The owners are cool and easy to talk to, and they love to connect visitors with art. Without Jim, some of my very favorite artists(like Bwana Spoons and Deth P. Sun) would still be unknown to me. Serious business! I suggest calling or emailing if you have physical access needs, since it’s on the second floor. I’ve placed a number of orders with Jim and Nicole online and over the phone, and received everything they carefully shipped to me several time zones away. I frequent similar shops in big cities(NYC, SF, Boston, etc), and I love the complete, down-to-earth package of FOE. I also love that the same artists showing at bigger city spaces exhibit at this little local gem. If you like, think you might like, or are curious about urban vinyl, FOE is for you.
