Let’s set the ground rules here. This review is going to be very long and technical, but I can’t help myself. 1. I am a supermarket expert. No, I am serious. I travel to the Caribbean and spend all day in their grocery stores. While I grocery shop I spend at least an hour and pass pretty much every aisle. I got these habits from work and now no one that knows me will ever step foot in a grocery store with me. It isn’t healthy. I know. 2. This review does not include their meat or seafood section or frozen aisle. Now that we have that clear, and you are actually still reading. Seriously, I warned you that this was going to be boring. I love Publix. Once again, maybe to a point of being unhealthy. I also have noticed that Publix has been eating my dollars like a motel lobby vending machine. I was pretty sick of spending 40 dollars on produce. Like every other area resident, I get my mailbox stuffed with fliers advertising the local grocery stores. I kept noticing prices that seemed so low that I thought they were typos or scams. Well, this one had to see for herself. President Supermarket has the lowest prices on produce imaginable. Cucumbers: 8 for $ 1. Cilantro bunch, like 50 cents. Limes 10/$ 1. The specials vary, but their prices on select produce items put Publix to shame. This is the best place to get great prices on produce that is heavily used in Latin and Caribbean cuisine. Think: peppers, boniato/camote/batata/sweet potato, mango, limes, cilantro, avocados, garlic etc. If you are looking for specialty items though, like fancy mushrooms or organic produce or kumquats, this place will either not have them, or they will but they will be beat up/smushed/moldy/about to get moldy/crazy price or generally undesirable. They also have a great selection of spices. They are the only place I have found my favorite salsa. When it comes to the specialty Latin/Caribbean items, they have it down to a science. I see many of the items that I see in the Caribbean, and then some. So why not 5 stars if this place is so great? President knows what they are doing. They lure you in with these great prices, but once you step out of produce, the tables will turn. There is no BOGO here, or at least not compared to ye olde publicos. Their prices on slower movers are pretty darn high and I have some doubts about product rotation at the shelf. You have to be very vigilant for the dates, damages etc. These guys are like the casino. You will win the first few hands in the produce section, but we all know how it goes: the house always wins. One other concern is that sometimes in order to get these great prices, you risk paying the ultimate price. Things can get a little shady in the parking lot, and sometimes the overall shopping environment can be a little aggressive. Too many shoppers, not enough check lanes, not the most efficient AC, can lead to a rowdy bunch at times.

There’s an aisle for Argentinians and Uruguayans? This exclusively has set a formidable impression on President. It’s much different then your average ethnic chain supermarket down in South Florida. Back home we had Seabras(which can be found in Pompano Beach). Similar style, you have a strong sense that food is primarily of all backgrounds but the majority of Latin American influence. I would recommend President over Sedano’s anytime. They’re known for their baked goods and have excellent employees. The only con I found about the chain is the numerous amount of times i had to uncover the Frozen Food packages being expired.

This small supermarket chain may not be fancy, but it has foods from almost every ethnic group in South Florida. If you want a chance to buy foods from a variety of countries in one spot, this is the place. They had Haitian seasoning, Jamaican Tea, Dish Detergent from Latin America, stuff from everywhere. Just walk through the aisles and look carefully. If you are into cooking, you will find things you want to try… Also, they had a great selection of baked goods from a variety of local bakeries… Also, there are one of the few places to get Prestige beer, an excellent«American style lager» made in Haiti… Also, there have Maggi Vegetarian Cubes for seasoning, a rare item for Vegetarians… Prices are decent, but the one stop stopping is great.
