We purchased a Groupon for brunch. The restaurant is quaint, with table cloths and cloth napkins. The service was very good. The food was fantastic and just the right amount to fill you without having to waste any . We loved it! Can’t wait to try their dinner.

Just a great goulash soup, very fancy European table set and nice Classical music with Wiener Schnitzel –Veal– was so tender and delicious, great service by beautiful German girl, Sandra, with a compliment of strawberry soup s from the chef and finally warm cherry strudel w Pistachio Ice cream to die for. Thanks guys I really enjoyed the ambiance and The food and it Is time for the movie, Laemmle theater next block. For the record I don’t have a group on ticket, paid by cc.

No Wonder this place is CLOSED, it was Terrible! The service was one of the worst I have ever encountered. The food was meh. The staff was disorganized and slow. The owner was mean and just plain rude. Came here for brunch once with a Groupon and for a Bridal shower. Both times, the experience was just awful. They only get ONE star and that goes to the venue. They had a beautiful outdoor patio. Hopefully a new restaurant will open with a pleasant atmosphere to make use of such great outdoor space.

About 6 years ago this was a lovely French restaurant also named Maximillian’s. For years I“ve searched for the excellent French chef that ran the restaurant and I finally found him. He is at Two40 South in Fullerton. They get excellent ratings on Unilocal. His name is Marc Boussarie. So if there is anyone out there looking for the magic that once was at Maximillian’s now you know!

We came in because I bought the Groupon deal … and before it expired, came in. After ordering I remembered to notify the server about the deal and she said, «We don’t do business with them.» I kind of nodded with a lost look and said«ok.» Her response. «is that a problem?» Hmm, okay, maybe I misunderstood what she meant and was just making sure I still wanted to dine there. Beside the cheese/meat platter, everything else was alright. Nothing was great or really unique. I can’t stress enough. the service was EXTREMELYAWFUL! We asked for pepper and the server pointed to a shelf and said, «it. there. go get yourself.» Wow, right? If it wasn’t for the nice chef that said«thank you» before I left, this joint would have gotten 1 star.

I decided to come here, because I was looking for a Austrian– Hungarian restaurant, because my family is Austrian– Hungarian, and obviously I wanted to try it. My family and I attended brunch, for my birthday. Our waiter was quite rude, he had attitude, and obviously loathed his job. The service alone made it an uncomfortable experience. Hoping the food would cheer up my opinion, but it was mediocre. I will just stick to my Oma’s paprika chicken, I will not come here ever again.

Maximillian’s in North Hollywood is an upscale Austo-Hungarian restaurant, just a block of the main Noho Arts District main strip. It’s definitely fine-dining with limited vegetarian options… but we knew that going in, and what could one expect from a place whose menu has a «From the Sausage Kitchen» section… We thought we’d give it a try as we were heading to an event nearby and it’s hard to turn down a place that has«Potato Latkas» on the menu. Some people have extra dessert stomachs… and then there are those of us who have additional stomachs for any kind of fried potato. It was a Thursday evening and not particularly crowded and with the limited vegetarian options it didn’t take us long to decide what to get which amounted to a couple of appetizers(the latka and baked brie) and the most Hungarian sounding dish we could find from the pasta menu(Forest mushroom Paprikas with homemade spaetzle. Yes, I said«spaetzle.» The potato latka normally comes with caviar but they subbed horseradish for us vegetarians… it was served with a delicious apple compote with raisins and a very thick sour cream. Score one for potato pancake lovers. The baked brie was advertised on the menu as served over risotto… the risotto turned out to be white rice mixed with peas… so not exactly the italian style risotto we had expected but it was not un-tasty. The brie was coated with a breading, also served with sour cream and was fine. Not the ecstasy inducing melted cheese fest we had hoped for… but it was fine. Our main, the mushroom paprikas with homemade spaetzle(yes, I said it again, spaetzle) was quite good. Spaetzle is a sort of twisted little pasta blob. We’d never had it before but thought it might be a little overdone based on our experiences with other pasta(on the other hand as spaetzle newbies it may have been perfect…) It was served with a very flavorful serving of mushrooms in a thick, savory cream sauce. Enjoyable! We also ordered a dish of plain pasta for our son(three years old) which came out in a butter sauce. The chef /owner didn’t seem particularly happy about having to send back another dish of truly plain pasta(though he did) leaving us feeling this wasn’t the best place to bring our finicky three year old. So if you’re looking for a fine dining Hungarian experience… and you’re a vegetarian who doesn’t mind limited options… Or if you find yourself here with your carnivorous friends… undoubtedly they’ll be more satisfied with the experience than you, but you’ll be okay.(There are a few other vegetarian pasta dishes beyond what we ordered, but it’s clearly not the focus of the place.) Don’t miss the latka! For more reviews from a vegetarian perspective visit

What a HORRIBLE place with awful management! I wish I could give it NOSTARS! I had purchased a Groupon to try this place out and was very excited as I adore a good brunch. They had promised an omelet bar and champagne. My voucher was valid until Jan 16, 2013, so I called on Jan 5 for reservations for Jan 6. When I arrived with my friend and presented the Groupon, we were rudely told that they will not honor it because their«contract with Groupon has expired.» They had NO consideration for the customer, they just proceeded to blame Groupon — which I have never had a problem with. The voucher was good for 10 more days! They did not take responsibility for their commitment and I feel they were scamming us with a «bait and switch.» The waitress was rude and nasty — but I think the main problem was the manager, who never came over to apologize. Also, please note that we did not see an omelet bar in site. The place was deserted — there was one table with two old ladies, and no one else. Surprise! I am the consumer that uses Groupon to find new places; I have found many new restaurants have have returned time and again, happily paying the full price. Please, do yourself a favor and steer clear of this deceptive place!

This place is bizarre. First things first: make sure you’re not in a hurry. If you don’t have an hour and a half free, no need to read on. Ok, so two other tables full when I arrived for Sunday brunch. The outdoor patio is really nice, but it was a hot day, so we opted for inside. Digs are almost classy, but the easy listening music and weird bookcase of condiments sort of push things into tackytown. The staff were perfectly pleasant, but totally disorganized and overworked. We had our choice of tables, but then were abandoned for like 20 mins. We just grabbed menus ourselves from a table near the front. As others have mentioned, groupon was somewhat misleading. Had to choose a single glass of either champagne or «OJ.» Opted for the latter, and was definitely served Sunny D. Like I said, bizarre. No omelet bar to be seen. Instead had to choose from a few set options: salmon, steak/eggs, german pancake, scramble, one other thing I can’t remember. Eventually a basket of rolls came, then a really nice plate of pastry and fruit. This is all prior to ordering. Probably sat for 45 minutes waiting for food to come. At least three tables who arrived after us were served first, though we got our food before one other table that preceded us. The food itself was pretty tasty, though be advised that the«angus medallions» looked and tasted an awful lot like flank steak. Crème fraîche pastry and egg Duxelle were the clear winners. German pancake was perfectly adequate. Sat around forever waiting for the bill. Finally just did the tax and tip math ourselves and left cash. As we were leaving, the waitress weirdly, but politely, told us she needed to give us the bill first. Stood around for another 5 minutes just waiting for that. The bill, like the rest of the meal, was pretty strange. They appear to have charged us 11% tax, and added on an 18% tip even though we were a party of two. We’d left more than that anyway, mostly because we didn’t feel like waiting another twenty minutes for a dollar of change, but I’ll say it again, bizarre.

TERRIBLE !!! The owner is terribly unprofessional and abusive towards his staff! Going to Maximilian’s was not my choice, I attended a Bridal Shower there today. If someone had suggested this place to me, I would have read my trusty Unilocal reviews and would have run for the hills. I actually felt sorry for the bride-to-be and her hosts… the service was terrible, I mean really terrible and I think we were the only guests there! We had to wait for water, forks and food. There was a lot of confusion among the staff and even worse, the owner in his white stained fruit-of-the– loom t-shirt, unkempt appearance and hostile attitude towards everyone — yelling at the staff and then ARGUINGWITHTHEHOSTOFTHESHOWER — are you kidding me? In front of everyone! You could cut the tension with a knife! The wait staff seemed flustered and unsure, and no wonder, they work for a TYRANT. There is nothing more repulsive than a man that cannot hold his temper — especially in front of others. No thank you! The food was okay, not good enough to warrant returning to that hot mess !!

Ok, My third try at Maximilians and guess what. Three bad experiences. Three strikes and your out. That means you Lazlo… The food is actually not that bad. If you have a craving for Central Powers Cuisine we don’t have many options… Problem #1: Often this place which should be awesome is not open at there advertised time. Get your act together Lazlo and drop the arrogance. Stop acting like you are doing us a favor by being open. Problem #2: The service is not terrible but for what you are paying show a little respect. I hate having to wait, and wait, and wait, then have to ask twice and not receive what I have requested. Problem #3: The biggest one… Lazlo’s attitude and arguing and drama amongst the staff. I feel more comfortable in the back seat of a police car. I put up with Lazlo’s arrogance at Hortobagy for years, at least the wait staff was really personal and nice. The food was great. I have to say I am through with his S#@t. I don’t want to go out to a nice dinner and hear arguing. He can kiss my support of 25 years goodbye. I now go to Sabine’s InHollywood on Vine. They are happy to take my money and treat me like a guest. Go jump in the Duna Lazlo… I am though with you and I am telling as many people as I can. What a real jerk you have become! I just wish Knoll’s Black Forest was still open…

TERRIBLEFOOD, SERVICE, MANAGEMENT. I had to get up, go into the restaurant, and ask for water THREE times before I was finally served a half hour into my visit here. The food was not as advertised. Cold, slimey, and sparse in the buffet. Obviously the owner does not care about potential customers, or how fast word can spread. I was treated like a homeless woman asking for water rather than a paying patron who was willing to spend money here, and possibly even come back with more people willing to spend money. I honestly hoped this place was going to be awesome, and now I hope it closes down. Shame on you Maximilians for being so distastefully rude, inconsiderate, and disrespectful. You obviously need a lesson in customer service.

Maximillian’s is a chef owned Austrian restaurant in the San Fernando Valley, that I had been meaning to try. So I jumped on a Groupon for weekend champagne brunch. First the good – the restaurant is a pleasant looking converted house and we did not get food poisoning. Given that the sterno was not replaced under the buffet dishes, which had clearly been out a long time, food poisoning was a distinct possibility. At even the most basic buffet there is one thing you should have a right to expect – plates. Not at Maximillian’s. After waiting 10 minutes for our one non-refillable Mimosa, we were told we could help ourselves. There were no plates. We asked a passing waitress, who said she could not get them, we would have to ask the chef. With some reluctance, he gave each of us a plate. Because the food was cold, and this is humbling for a carnivore to admit, the best dish was mixed greens. In addition there was a chicken dish in a sauce from a can, a pasta dish with no sauce, a beef and rice dish with virtually no beef left, remnants of what once might have been grilled vegetables and an ample platter of poached salmon. Tasting, or rather failing to taste the salmon, solved the mystery of its staying power. Of course when we went back to get more mixed greens we had to keep the same plates, which still had the food we considered inedible. In fact after getting tired of looking at the food on those plates, we bused them ourselves. We went back to try the desserts. The same routine, we had to beg for plates. We needn’t have bothered. After trying the offerings we ordered a passable apple strudel off the menu. The service was poor, and morale was low. I soon discovered why. They had to eat the same food we had suffered through. At least they had plates. For more see

BIGPROBLEMSWITHTHEGROUPON! I purchased the groupon for this restaurant last month. The groupon I purhcased said endless champagne brunch for 4 was $ 36. I called right away to make a res for hat weekend to take some friends out. When I mentioned the groupon, she told me «oh, Groupon screwed up and it’s not endless champagne, just one glass» No big deal to me, as it was just $ 9 for breakfast and their corkage is cheap, so I thought ok, we will bring our own. Problem #1. When my friends and I arrived, she promptly sat us and I pulled out my iphone with the groupon to show her(as is stated on the groupon itself!) and she said«oooohh.I need the printed copy.» I told her I didn’t have one and that it said right here to use the code on the groupon right from the app and that I had done this on several occasions at other places. She said, no I need the paper copy, we don’t have a scanner. I again said, you just write down the number from there(pointing to my screen). She said I don’t think I can do this, let me talk to the manager. She want to talk to the«manager» who I happen to know was the owner… a big gruff looking european man, who was grumbling, «no we have to have the paper». They told us to go home and print the copy and come back(REALLY??? are you #$@#$ kidding me??) At this point, my friends and I said forget it. not worth $ 18 bucks each for an egg and a glass of champange and this drama, so we got up and left. Never to return. Happily Groupon gave me my refund right away, so that worked out. Had she mentioned it on the phone, when I made the res I still woudl have been ok with it I think. it was her(their) attitude and the fact that they were not going to honor this and were not budging that was my major issue. They’ve lost 4 potential customers who love Austrian food, which is a shame for them.

It seems like there’s a slew of reviews recently that are complaining about having their Groupons turned away and all I can say about that is BEGRATEFUL! Because it is better to get a refund from Groupon than to dine here. SERIOUSLY. My boyfriend and I had a brunch groupon for two and came here last weekend. We were excited to try the advertised omelette bar and waitresses that bring us hungarian meats as we dine, but there was nothing like that to be seen. We wanted to sit outside to enjoy the rose garden but the hostess/waitress insisted that we sit inside because there was a wait for a table outside(even though it was nearly empty) and she warned us that service would be slow since she was the only one there… okay? Why wouldn’t they be properly staffed if they just had a WEEKENDBRUNCH Groupon that was advertised? Anyways, we sit down and they hand us a very limited brunch menu, instead of the omelette bar, mimosa and hungarian meats that was advertised. The menu had only about five items and a choice of either OJ or champagne. We opted for OJ and I ordered the smoked salmon and my bf ordered the pork tenderloin. There was a table of four dining next to us and two of them also ordered the smoked salmon. Our OJ arrived and it was worst mistaken I have ever made. It was so disgusting and came from some sort of nasty concentrate, I couldn’t even finish mine. We waited and waited and waited for our food. No one came to check on us or to take our bread basket away or to refill our waters. After about 35 mins the table next to us received their food. The two that ordered smoked salmon were appalled at what they received… a salad with a small piece of smoked salmon when the description read that it would come with hungarian potatoes and smoked salmon on top of baguette. They complained to the busboy who was the only one around since our waitress had disappeared and he looked confused as he went back to the kitchen. I was worried about my smoke salmon now. After about another 15 mins, the waitress came out with my BF’s pork dish and informed me that they had no more smoked salmon left. WTF?! I waited nearly an hour to hear that I have reorder a new dish? So I went with the scrambled eggs with sausage. It came out in about ten minutes and the eggs were COMPLETELYRAW! RAW. I am not kidding, like inedible and disgusting and unsanitary. I poked and prodded at my BF’s plate because the waitress had disappeared again and I wasn’t able to find anyone to ask for some damn cooked eggs at least! After about another 30 minutes she came to ask how everything went and I pointed to my raw eggs. She nonchalantly shrugged and asked if I wanted something else. Uh, no thanks just the mothereffin check please. No apologies, no concessions on our check, nada. On our way out, we saw dirty dishes sitting on the front desk where the hostess usually stands and the owner himself Lazlo, yelling and screaming in the kitchen, completely upsetting the guests trying to dine inside. It was a terrible experience and this place needs to be shut down for their unsanitary kitchen practices. REFUNDYOURGROUPONS!

I am another angry Groupon person who will never, ever eat here because of their bait-and-switch tactics and condescending attitude. And that may be a shame, because it may be a very nice restaurant for those who don’t distinguish themselves as scum of the earth just for using a groupon. We purchased the groupon based upon the description, «self-serve omelet bar as waitresses bring out trays of German sausages, rolls, and champagne» Well, we were herded to a cordoned off section of the restaurant and told we could only partake of the buffet. This buffet consisted of four serving trays filled with very questionable food. From the discoloration and soggy appearance of the food, it looked to us like yesterday’s leftovers. We could also choose from an unexciting array of stale danish pieces. So, no omelets, no champagne, and certainly no waitresses bringing out ANYTHING. We politely showed the hostess the groupon with the restaurant’s own description and were given some coldly delivered mumblings about expirations and a «take it or piss off» attitude. The expiration on this particular groupon is January of 2013, so I suppose we will just have to complain to Groupon about this ornery and dishonorable establishment.

Wanted to try out the food but alas, we weren’t allowed to. The hot headed owner didn’t honor our groupon for brunch. So as we left vowing never to return he said out loud, «I don’t care!» If your business doesn’t want to use groupon, then don’t. No one’s twisting your arm to use them. But turning away first time customers, not even honoring the amount we already paid for, oh you bet bad word of mouth is going to spread. I suspect this place already has a lot of problems starting with the owner. Not even his own staff wants to deal with him. They don’t even want to approach him. And as from what I can see from the other non-groupon customers(the only 2 people in the restaurant) they were not pleased with the service either. Maybe the show Restaurant: Impossible can come by and teach them a thing or two about service.

As with other reviews, a Groupon purchase compelled me to try this place. I should have read the Unilocal reviews more carefully(especially those critical about the brunch) prior to purchase. Ate here this morning and was looking forward to a tasty brunch… uh, not so much. The Groupon is deceiving because it doesn’t describe what you actually get. The title of the Groupon is «Big Champagne Brunch for Two.» Then in the brief description it says, «self-serve omelet bar as waitresses bring out trays of German sausages, rolls, and champagne.» No omelet bar. Bummer. Instead we were offered orange juice OR champagne and a menu of not-so-exciting brunch fare. We ordered the OJ and it tasted like freakin’ Tang! No bueno! We did receive a plate with a brownie(which I actually did enjoy), danish, and another fruit filled sweet. Eh, ok, overall. I ordered the eggs with sausage and ham. It also came with salad and potatoes. My friend ordered the salmon which was also, meh. Would definitely not dine here again for brunch. Might give it a shot for dinner, but this experience really soured my impression of the restaurant.

This was one of the worst dining experiences I have every had. We purchased a group on for sunday brunch for 2 with bottomless champagne. When we arrived, we told them we have the group on on our phone and they said fine. They than said that not only was the champagne not unlimited, but if we wanted mimosas we had to pay additionally for the orange juice. The service was terrible, it took about 25min to get to order food, and then it took a long time to come out. Food was barely so-so. Overcooked. My girlfriends duck had white hairs in it. When we were finished they told us we had to have the group on printed out or they would not accept. WTF Since we live nearby I ran home and printed it out, not wanting to spend $ 40 on a terrible brunch. When I got back and gave them the group on they gave us a check for one of the brunches, saying we had only paid groupon for one brunch. Not sure how they could think people would buy that, there would be no benefit to having the groupon. Finally another waiter came out and explained to our waiter that it did cover the brunches. Someone who appeared to be the owner was arguing with them the whole time. It never got resolved, and we finally left. Slow service, bad food, and a strange atmosphere. LAME!

Brilliant! The rationale for the high marks is when compared to other establishments nearby it sets itself apart as being uniquely identifiable as a European establishment. So, it seems only fitting to rate this appropriately and happy to see others agree as well. This«boutique» of a restaurant which is how I felt walking in gave a sense of charm, elegance and cozy feel to it. I appreciated the thought that was put into the décor to give you a sense of being surrounded by European culture. Now, onto the topic of food. We went for lunch and I believe the menu was tailored for it, so after perusing the options we decided to ask Chef Laszlo to confirm our choices with his approval. I ordered the Lobster sandwich and the Chicken Schnitzel with Pommes Frites and Sauerkraut. The Chef brought to the table some pâté and flat bread which was delicious. Lobster sandwich was lightly breaded and drizzled with homemade aioli sauce with lettuce and red onions on a freshly baked buttered bread that seemed to be pressed panini style served with a sweet dill pickle. Chicken Schnitzel was also lightly breaded and the chicken was moist in the middle and had good flavor and taste to it. The Sauerkraut was delicious, not salty or dry, but just flavorful. The Pommes Frites(French Fries) were shoestring fries, golden brown, crispy outside and fluffy inside and sprinkled with season salt and were addicting. Overall experience was fantastic and since it was during lunch the crowd was small so I felt we got a royal treatment considering we mentioned it was our first time. I’m a fan of this restaurant and hesitated writing a review for fear of exposing it, but wanted to share the experience and hope you too enjoy it as well.
