A Thai place that gets the spice level perfect for my Pakistani tastebuds! I had to eat a lot of subpar, boring Thai food to understand the real experience. Lit under warm yellow lighting, and adorned with tapestries, the restaurant appears somewhat shabby. But isn’t the best food always served in such establishments? The owner is a really sweet man. He took our order patiently while we scoured the menu for a few minutes before deciding on Garlic Pepper Chicken, Beef Chilli, Pad Prik Khing and fried rice. He is the sole cook at the place with, maybe, just one helper. I can best describe the food as Thai-Pakistani because it wasn’t bland like most Thai places I have tried. It was perfect as is without the addition of any spices and sauces. But if you’re not used to hot spicy food, you may want to let the guy know to keep it mildly spicy. I would probably not order Garlic Pepper Chicken next time I visit. It was good but just not my favorite flavor. Everything else was delicious! The meat is halal and you can definitely taste the superior quality. Given it was only $ 7.99 per dish, the portions are generous. One main dish with fried rice alone can easily feed three people. This place definitely needs more reviews. It is cheaper than most places but far superior in taste!

After a long night of drinking and partying, my friend and I needed a Tom yum soup to help recover. We live 5mins from there so decided to take a walk. We entered lifeless, hungry and ready to try this found hole in the wall. When walking in uI didn’t know to knock or just walk in bc it looks like someone’s home. We entered and was greeted by a gentlemen n led to the seating area. I was mildly Confused as to take my uuu I, or just find a seat. Once we got settled in the gentleman that greeted us also took our order and cooked the food. We ordered the tum yum soup and seafood spicy rice they were both amazing. Once you look past its imperfections you’ll see its a really great place. I rate them a 5 on quality, taste, and the time it took to get to us. I will definitely be returning.

The food is amazing! The service is fantastic. It’s a one person show so wait time may be higher during busy time. BEPATIENT! Totally worth the wait. And the catering is awesome. Very timely, consistent flavor, and honest ordering. No messing around. He will honestly tell you if you’re ordering too much.

The food was EXCELLENT! The way people were describing the place, I was almost afraid to go there and eat for fear that it would be dirty and unpleasant to eat there. So not the case. I took my food to go but that is just because I had somewhere to be. I could have easily eaten there. My husband and I only eat halal meat so it was nice to find a restaurant that wasn’t indian/pakistani food. Four stars and not five because the second day I went back(I was on a 3 day trip to burbank) and they were closed during their listed business hours. I was so sad. I was looking forward to more tom yam kai soup.

Food is 5 stars but the place is so dirty and eww. The owner really needs to get on top of it. They can’t just earn business by providing good quality food but they need to work on cleaning and probably remodeling this place. It doesn’t feel like you eating in usa. It looks like some 3rd world country and I’m sure 3rd world country have good looking restaurant than this. But yeah food quality is amazing!!! I would come more often if only they work on changing the look of this restaurant.

I go there all the time and get delivery. It is amazing food and the atmosphere is very homey. By far the best Thai food I’ve ever had in my life. I will always go back and continue to order regularly.

Been coming to this place for years. Service WAS food came fresh in huge portions. Fast forward to 2015. Been here a couple of times this year and service has been horrible. Had to wait 10 – 15 minutes for a menu. Then waited another 10 – 15 for order to be taken. Then another 45 – 60 minutes for some small portions of semi decent dishes. When we asked for«non-spicy» we got«why you sweatin so hard bro» spicy. I told so hot Then the owner wanted not to come any more his Restaurant. Well if the food had arrived on time and service was good, we would have left a $$FAT$$ tip but subpar service and meals deserve no tip. Bottom line, skip this place if your looking for a clean restaurant that provides good speedy service and fresh delishes meals.

Haters going to hate. I’ve had nothing but pleasant experiences here. The owner is chill, I’ve never met his infamous daughter. The place is fringing between restaurant and hole in the wall. But you know what? I’m here for food, not for a 5 star Cheesecake factory experience. The food is good and that’s what matters. If I wanted a nice sit down, I would go elsewhere. He’s good about customizing orders too. And you know what? The fish tanks are legit. Don’t like the pleasant décor? Order to go.

They get 1 star for good Thai food and another star for being halal. Unfortunetly, everything else is just plain bad. I really wanted to support this halal establishment, but after multiple bad experiences and poor treatment, I feel like I’m obligated to steer people away from this place Service: They have the worst customer service I’ve experienced in any restaurant! The owner and daughter are moody and generally rude. The daughter’s mood wavers from bad to worse. Shes always rude on the phone. The owner is a genuinely nice guy at heart it seems but needs to learn how to talk to and treat his customers. He’s also constantly talking trash about other customers, usually about brown ppl not tipping enough or not ordering his seafood dishes. The daughter shouldn’t be working there if she’s always miserable and it reflects in their service. On multiple occasions we’ve phoned in an order only to find out that they didn’t even start preparing our meals till we got there! Then we’d end up waiting another 30−40+ min. What’s the point of taking the order over the phone then!!! Ambiance: You can read the other reviews but their interior needs work! Generally messy and the various fish tanks don’t help. I believe Barn Rau translates to «my house» and they literally took that to heart. Feels like someone’s cluttered home with dirty dishes out. My last experience was the final straw. I tried to place a phone order and the daughter in a rude tone basically said«we are very busy, you can come in after 2 hours and then we will take your order. «Huh? U want me to wait like 3 hours for my food? Can’t you take my order over the phone at least? She flatly said«no» then hung up. I called back and owner picked up and was just as rude. They both knew that I was one of their frequent loyal customers that has brought them tons of family and business, yet they still choose to be so rude? On another occasion, they were rude to my wife. I won’t get into details around that story… but safe to say we won’t be coming back. Sorry but not sorry… no more business for Barn Rau from my family.

This was an interesting experience for a Christmas Eve night… My wife and I were looking for an after work noche buena experience.lol. What brought us to this place? Well, a little mix up as my wife was in one of those moody moments, unsure of what she really wanted. Eat-in, takeout, etc etc. We planned for Thai BBQ but discovered the place was closed. I pulled out the Unilocal and was looking around for the nearest Thai place as we were driving. First name came up and I hit the directions tab. It took us to some hole in the wall place near a gas station in Panorama. I think it was called Thai Thai. I don’t want to review the place but first impression there really sucked! The lady behind the cash register helped the customer in front of us. Then for some weird reason she came from behind the counter and sat at a table in the corner, facing where we were standing. Umm. we were hoping to order some food to go. The lady continued to stare from the corner. I had to gauge between her weirdness and my wife’s growing lack of patience. It was better for me to suggest we leave. We were out of there. I checked my Unilocal app again as I was driving. My wife was suggesting we just go home but I wanted to give one last try on some Thai food since that was her initial desire for the evening. I’m trying to be all about satisfying her food wishes. That’s when this place came up and was less than a mile away from where we happened to be driving at the time. The place looked kind of strange from the outside. Can’t really see inside from the street but we proceeded to open the door. There was a guy there that glanced at us with a strange look that matched the way we felt walking in there. My wife is filipino so I could tell she instantly felt out of place and for me, it felt like we stepped inside a different country but I like that sort of thing. Part of the beauty of LA in my opinion are the different cultures and the foods you can discover along the way. This restaurant won’t blow you away with its décor. I mean, tables and chairs looked so unorganized and turned around. You really can’t tell where you should sit. The menu is so full of stuff that it takes a while to really read thru but we tried to pick out what was instantly familiar to us. My wife chose pad thai and I was trying to order various finger foods; ala carte type stuff but everything I was picking, the guy said they didn’t have. Deep fried shrimp, salt and pepper squid, etc… nope. I had to settle for chicken satay and some kind of shrimp fried rice. At this point we just wanted to get something and get home. Took a long time, probably about 25 minutes. There was one other big family there eating and having deep conversations about iPhone 5 batteries. We had to endure that excitement along with watching a very different kind of news channel that I had never seen or heard of but it was interesting. Again it kind of added to the ambience of feeling like we’re in a different country. Another big family came in while we were waiting. Both families are probably regulars as this place does seem like a family owned business where they probably get the same folks with an occasional out of place newbie like my wife and myself walking in. For some reason, I like the guy that served us. Based on what people have written here, I guess this guy is the owner. Seemed like a pretty cool person, I’m just not sure I’d want to stay and eat at the restaurant but with respect to the food? I’d have to say it was pretty good. Once we got home and dug into that shrimp fried rice, which was very filling all by itself, we enjoyed it. My wife liked the pad thai. The chicken satay was so-so. not great but not bad either… Now, I must say that all of this is coming from someone who knows absolutely nothing about the halal eating experience so take that for what its worth because actually, I would return there but I’d probably do take out again. A new and different experience is most times a good thing. Probably my wife doesn’t want to go back though.lol. And I later found out that her feet were killing her so that’s the main reason for the mood gone weird. *smile* Happy Holidays! This place is cool… it’s aiight… *smile*

I don’t even eat halal meat only but I love coming to this restaurant because it has delicious thai food. Their food has a lot of flavor and it can be as spicy as you like. Their red curry chicken and pad Thai is quite delicious! My favorite halal restaurant in LA!

My husband and I love this place. We come here often because I am a fan of Thai food. This place is a hole in the wall type of joint, but the food is amazing especially if you eat halal only food. My family in Northern California talk about the time we brought them to this place all the time. We love the pad ke mao and the spicy chicken wings! So good! The owner is really nice. Yeah I think the service could be better. It can be kinda slow as in waiting for someone to help you or getting the check, but the owner is the only one working outside of the kitchen. The younger female who sometimes works there doesn’t seem very nice. The place isn’t that nice or appear to be very clean, but we come here for the food and ignore everything else.

I’m giving them 3 star probably because they’re Halal. Almost everything else are bad :( Customer service is not bad, but the owner sitting close to u, looking at u & probably expecting praising of the food is kinda uncomfortable. It’s a family run business & the management doesn’t know much about restaurant business. The decoration is scattered & messy. Foods are salty or dipped into soy sauce. Fried rice was almost black. The only thing I liked is probably the fried chicken. It was yummy Only for halal, I’d be back many times. But I’d rather not eat any meat in other thai restaurant than eat here :(

This place is a shocker, If I have a choice I wouldnt give them a single star:/ We had the WORST experience in the whole life. The owner’s daughter called us «MOTHERFUCKER» for giving less tip, coz of their extremely bad service. We literally had the worst experience of our lives. She abused my friend and me for nothing. She asked us as we were leaving,“You leave less tip, now who is gonna clean this mess up? « So my friend was like we left less tip coz we had to get up and get the drink, get up and get the spoons, also nobody asked us if everything was okay after serving the food. On this she starting abusing us and asked us to leave and never come back. ABOVEALLSHEMUSTKNOWTHAT, NOBODYSERVESFOODINPAJAMASTOTHECUSTOMER !!! Inspite of this she is asking for more tip… SHAME!!! :/

As far as food and the fact that its halal. this place is amazing. However I am very sensitive in smell and I hate clutter, thats the reason I deprive myself of thai food:) More than one occasion ive been to this place and tried to control myself not to puke. Fish tanks are right next to tables and they have lurky water and they smell. they have a very large fishtank that is literally moldy green with giant unactive fish. Their service window is right by the door and often they have dirty dishes. They just wipe the tables and you can see food smudges on table. They have little hut where the register is and it is filled to the max with weird stuff. Its like someones really cluttered house. This is front of the house. that makes me question their ways in the kitchen and for that reason I pass on good food. Also once we have been there and owner sat next to our table to chat with my husband. he was there the whole makes chowing down my food diffucult when strange men is watching me:/ I think he wanted to know if we like the food and watch our reaction, just overstayed and started talking. He was talking about customer they have who is a cheapsteak and he was bad mouthing him. I just felt really uncomfortable because what if hes talking behind my back? Even though we order so much. I dont need to worry about this kind of nonsense when i just want to eat food. The daughter has been miserable every time we’ve been there, simply showing she doesn’t want to be there. She is unbelievably rude on the phone but little more chill in person. So take out can be difficult depending on how she wants to treat you. Overall too many issues to overcome to eat some halal Thai food

1 star for good, halal food. 1 star for nice, friendly owners(they opened the restuarant an hour early for me & my husband) 1 star for a clean bathroom. They lose two stars because: –Unkept restuarant. It looks like a house converted into a restuarant but still looks like a house. Having the word«Barn» in the restuarant’s name doesn’t really help either. –Dirty and oddly placed fish tanks –Interior is messy and full of clutter –The male owner talked way too much when my husband and I were eating there so we couldn’t really enjoy the food. We took the remaining food to-go and ate it when we got home(to the Bay Area) and it was great. I’d go back to Barnrau but I wouldn’t dine-in. My food will be To-Go, thank you very much.
