I saw my meal go into the micro wave in the styrofoam container. The owner double talked when i questioned it. Said oh no no. Just the rice. Gave me different rice. but when i went to eat some of the chicken was cold and some was piping hot, a sure sign it was all microwaved the rice, the chicken and veggie. The lie was what got to me.

One of the best Chinese places in the seacoast for takeout. Freshly made, flavorful, friendly service.

Li Yuen’s is authentic and delicious chinese food. I have been a customer for over 30 years. My family’s favorite Chinese food ever! We especially enjoy her spring rolls, shrimp with vegetables and chicken with orange sauce. So many good choices on her menu. If you want to have fun learning how to make her food, I highly recommend taking her cooking classes. Li Yuen is delightful, personable and entertaining.

Li Yuen’s was such a wonderful find for my husband and I. The food is not your typical Chinese fare — this is authentic, homestyle, and very flavorful. We took her level 1 cooking class and will definitely be returning for the next series. Her experience, knowledge, and passion for cooking make the class delightfully entertaining and educational. We are learning different techniques, recipes, and the history of many different Chinese foods, recipes, etc. Li Yuen is a pleasure to talk to, has a great sense of humor, and I am looking forward to learning more from her, not to mention trying more of her menu! We have had the shredded beef with beans, and spring rolls. This is strictly carry-out, but she also has a small market where you can find various Asian ingredients, frozen items such as her wontons and homemade chicken broth, teas, etc.

I’ve been coming here since I was just a wee lad, and it’s a testament to her restaurant that the quality has never wavered. I used to get the Beef and Broccoli, the sweet and sour chicken, and now I’m a fan of the Pork Fried Rice. Whenever getting the Beef and Broccoli, the fried rice side is delicious. Li Yuen is a super sweet woman as well, always so kind and makes sure your order is right. She values her customers, as apparent by the Christmas cards she proudly displays on her front window. She’s always been receptive and helpful when I’ve complained in the past. The food is a bit expensive for the portion size, but it’s great to order for take out and eat with your family.

Good, light Chinese fare. Stopped in on a chance while getting my windshield replaced. I’ll be back for takeout. Solid Lo mein and a nice and crispy scallion pancake. Mmm.

I really enjoyed the lo mein here until I went gluten free. It was far tastier and fresher than anything you’d get from a Chinese restaurant around here. Also enjoy the chicken fried rice, but have to avoid it now because of the gluten in soy sauce. Recently had a dish there that was recommended by the owner due to my gluten intolerance — she makes it with wide rice noodles — which is great, they are gluten free; however, the soy-based sauce they are bathed in are not. If I had celiac, I would have been really sick from them. While I wouldn’t call the place filthy, it is old and dated looking, and some of the items for sale on the shelves appear to have been there forever. I’ve had the wonton soup in the past and found it to be absolutely bland — no fresh vegetables, no bits of pork strips, no flavor; I find the same to be true of the egg rolls. They appear to be filled with shredded cabbage and not much else, yet they are sold all over the area in gourmet grocery stores! I don’t get it. I’ve had the sesame noodles before too, and yes, they are tasteless. And the owner can be rather, shall we say, off-putting. I have called and been put on hold until I’ve finally hung up and gone elsewhere, and I have called and been told«too busy now, call back later» and hung up on. Really? Must be nice to have that kind of confidence.

have been eating Li yuens for years and though the food is generaly good, the customer service is severly lacking. Li yuen is for lack of a better work, total B#tch. In one incounter she actually told me that i couldnt have any duck sauce with my $ 60 dollars worth of food becuse she thinks i «use too much». In another incounter on new years eave, we ordered food 3 hrs in advance and upon arrival she wouldn not even tell us when our order might be done, not even aprox. We canceled it and left. The final straw last night when i ordered dinner for my wife and i and i ended up with a severe case of food poisoning form the general saus beef.

Tried this place for the first time due to the great reviews on here and the reviews are right(with the exception of the one bad review which, in my opinion, is way off base). The service was fantastic, friendly and fast. For the portions, the prices are reasonable and it is, hands down, the best Chinese food I have ever had. It is not greasy or heavy and everything tastes fresh. I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone and will most definitely be back!

I’ve tried most of the Chinese food on the seacoast and li yuen is the best. The food here is the most authentic and it’s damn good. Li yuen uses fresh ingredients and makes most of the food from scratch. Try the mapo tofu and ask for it wIth beef and extra spicy.

I’m really surprised that this place doesn’t have more reviews(and has a bad one — quite shocking, the food isn’t greasy, the establishment isn’t dirty and I agree with the other reviewer that there’s a racist tone to the bad review). I used to get their take out regularly and it was always quick and excellent. I don’t eat chinese food anywhere else. I just went back and it was still excellent. I used to work in Rye and locals love this place — with good reason! I think it is just take out, not eat in.

Been getting take-out here for years. Love her shrimp fried rice! The place is not filthy and I find previous snippy comment racist and offensive.

It never ceases to surprise me when I am the first to review a place that is incredibly good and not new. C’mon people, I see you in this place all the time. Don’t be afraid to tell the world about it. Li Yuen is the most authentic and fresh Chinese take-out joint in the NH Seacoast area and I’d stack it up against most big-city Chinatown establishments. Sure the proprietors are Chinese, so that helps but the commitment doesn’t stop there. The kitchen also serves as a Chinese market of sorts(Chinese dry goods, cooking utensils, Chinese packaged foods, etc.) and Li is known for her popular cooking classes. You will find all the regular fare here but not the 20 page menu. Since I always order the same thing at every Chinese restaurant, I can honestly say Li Yuen’s wonton soup, spring/egg rolls, kung pao chicken and pork fried rice are top notch, head of the class. The prices may thow you for a loop at first but when you see the quantities served, you’ll figure out how to order for the next visit(one order serves 2 people easily). Best method is to order out for the family, bring it all home and feast.
