Came here on Fathers Day for the first time. Really like this place !! Small but a great selection of beers. So many that you’ll want to try a flight or two. My favorites were the Murphys Big Headed Pale ale, Sumpter Street Amber and the Tides of Galway Irish Red, but with all the choices I am sure there is something for all beer lovers. friendly staff as well. make sure to say hi to Turk if he’s onsite !! Will be back for sure !!

My wife and I are exploring Charleston for some local craft beer with outside seating and found this wonderful small brewery with a plethora of tastes from a Strawberry ale to 100 cup of coffee to a habanero & chilies, all very good… The scotch ale and ginger beer were just as good… You just have to stop by for a flight… They special nights, table games, etc, put some froth in your life or beard and try something new!

Not sure if I am missing something, but this brewery didn’t do a whole lot for me. It is a decent hike from Charleston and is tucked away in an industrial park. The brewery is tiny and doesn’t have a ton of character or much of anything going for it. I tried the two Stouts on the menu and thought they were fine. Nothing special… They do, however, have a very cool name and some sweet merch. I think the name draws people in(it drew me in for sure). and they probably get a decent amount of business from folks who live in the vicinity. There was a pretty chill dog hanging out in the brewery so that’s cool I guess. I am assuming it belonged to the bartender. It’d be pretty hard for me to give a brewery less than 3 stars, they’d really have to be awful.

Frothy Beard probably has the most unique brews of any of the Charleston breweries. The brewery is on a long road off of Ashley Phosphate with a bunch of industrial buildings and company offices so it can be really easy to miss. They don’t have huge parking lot or a big bar space but they have some nice picnic tables outside. Basically, it’s a pretty small operation(especially compared to Holy City or Westbrook). That means they don’t distribute anything(yet?) so if you want to drink their beer, you have to go there and drink it on-site or take a growler home. They always have some really interesting, off-the-wall stuff(e.g. a cucumber-thyme beer) and a nice collection of their takes on classic micro-brew styles. My personal favorites are the Zingeber(a pale ale with a strong compliment of ginger) and the Wallhalpeno(a beer with a nice bite thanks to the eponymous pepper). Definitely one of the places to check out if you’re a craft beer fan!

This was one of my favorite breweries on a Southern road trip. It is an amazing nano brewery. Their niche is unusual vegetable flavors. I loved their cucumber thyme beer! I still salivate over it. It’s located in a business park. There are some bar seats, couple of picnic tables. They have resident dogs who are pretty sweet. They have a Sega and some old-school games. You could play one of the board games they have, too. It can get a little sticky in the summer so I would recommend sitting near one of the fans. They don’t have their own kitchen, but there’s usually a food truck. I also liked the art work. When I was there, they featured work from local artist, Tami Boyce. She had an adorable series of animals wearing monocles. We ended up liking one so much, we purchased one online after we got home.

This is one of the smaller breweries out here but I really like going there because it feels like you’re just drinking at your friend’s house. Real casual atmosphere, just a few dudes and their dog brewing some beer. Drink local!

I love this brewery. Every time I come I leave with a smile and a little froth in my beard.

Given their small size, they make the most of it with a nice bar area and outdoor seating. Very unique brew selections, they seem to do a lot of experimentation and will surprise you with some of their ingredients. Some of the brews here were not my style but its good to go outside-the-box sometimes! Plenty of games to play while enjoying the suds.

The first time I tried to find this place I nearly missed it. They have a cute little wooden sign outside hiding in front of a bush. The building itself has no other signage to let you know where it’s hiding. Once you find it and make your way inside, you’ll find a small room where the brewery and bar are located. The beers on tap are posted daily on their chalkboard sign(which they also post on Facebook) My first visit, my boyfriend and I each got a flight so that we could try a good variety of the beers. They had 3 spicy beers on tap which was a nice surprise. The wallhallapeño gose is a nice kick in the mouth! Frothy Beard is quite creative with their recipes. I was really surprised at how much I liked the beers I was initially nervous to try! The bartenders are fantastic. My second visit was prompted because of a chat I had with the bartender. She told me all about the peppermint porter which would be ready the week following my first trip here. Naturally I had to come back to get some! I left with 2 of the 32oz growlers– one for me and one for my boyfriend. I wish I lived close enough to become a regular at this joint. Highly recommend.

I can appreciate the small operation at Frothy Beard. They are very friendly folks and have an adorable, chill tasting room & bar. The beer is alright– wasn’t too impressed with the three my group ordered. Would go again but won’t make a special trip

The beer here is very flavor forward, and I don’t mean your typical«beer flavors». I think that’s why it wasn’t my cup of tea… I mean my «glass of beer». When I drink beer, I drink it because I like the taste of beer; I don’t want it to be masked or covered up by fruit, spice or other components. It was interesting to taste all the flavor forward combinations, and they make the spiciest habanero beer I’ve ever had, but I honestly wouldn’t [and didn’t] drink a full pint of anything I tasted. The bartender told us the taps change frequently, and unfortunately they didn’t have any IPA’s on tap during our visit, I’d been dying to try their Albatross IPA. I’ll be on the lookout for their beers at the bars, but I don’t think I’ll return to the brewery until I have something that really tingles my tastebuds. The brewery itself is located in an industrial area, it’s a small brewery and easy to drive past(look for the mailbox!). You’ll walk up to the garage door and enter the one room brewery. A small bar with maybe ten seats and three long community tables comprise the space with all the brewing equipment. They were also serving up ramen on our visit, a nice idea, but pop-up ramen shop doesn’t sound like a good idea with all the raw, exposed components in a non-air conditioned setting(plus the large dog in the«kitchen» area). Overall, I’ve definitely had better beer but the location feels very local.

I bought a living social deal for this establishment and I’m glad I did! The Frothy Beard introduced me to breweries. It was the first brewery I went to and I loved it. It’s in a large garage with a small bar with six taps. There are games and tables and chairs everywhere inside and outside. They share their space with some soda makers. There is a private parking lot. Pints, half pints and flights are available. I started coming here regularly on Wednesday nights because the beer was good, the guys were super nice, friendly and down to earth men that are easy going. I met many nice people here, there are so many different people that come here. There are older people that are retired, young men and women, hipsters, people just stopping by for a drink, the crowd is very eclectic. My favorite beer here is their jalapeño cilantro pale ale. I bring fried shrimp and fries to enjoy with it and it’s delicious! They don’t serve food. I would highly recommend trying the beer here!

This is a very small storage building brewery. The people are very nice and they have plenty of things to do if you so wish like board and video games. They specialize in what I consider fringe beer. Don’t be frightened off by that because the beers work for the most part. Like The cucumber thyme beer was very refreshing and would be super with a gyro. The only issue we had was with their collaboration. Something was obviously wrong with the keg and the reason for the loss of the star. The beer being off should have been obvious because the beer had seperated and milky in color. We confirmed the beer was off when we tried what the collaborator had on tap and it was clear for the most part. That beer being off won’t stop me from stopping by in the future

Great place to grab a micro-brew. Small venue with very approachable brewers who love their work. These guys always seem to have a wildcard beer that is vastly different from the other local brewers. Last time I went in, it was a Peppermint Porter. Not my favorite thing but it was great to try different flavor profiles. I really enjoy their Gingerbier, fantastic brew that is really refreshing. Another great point is the old video game system they have setup to play. Getting a pint and playing some old SNES games makes for a great time.

As I was sporting a pretty new beard at the time we were visiting Charleston, there was no way I was going to miss trying a brewery named«Frothy Beard.» We hit quite a frew breweries during our roadtrip of the south(thank you to the wife for being a great DD), and this was one really stands out in my mind. A set of six large tasters for $ 8; you can’t go wrong there… especially, when I really enjoyed 4 out of the 6(I am not a stout or porter fan, so it was no surprise that I didn’t enjoy the last two). Small place with an extremely chill aura. The owner(pictured behind the bar) was really friendly, as was his sweet dog who would roam around and get some love from the many patrons, ourselves included, who couldn’t resist his charms. As it was a nice sunny day, we appreciated the indoor/outdoor atmosphere of this place with its large roll-up doors remaining open, and we liked the simple strand of Christmas lights that remained up as we approached the last few days of 2014. The only change I’d recommend to ownership: either replace the fold-up CostCo tables with some wooden park benches/tables, or get a big table-cloth or something to cover up the plastic work-party atmosphere that the CostCo table exudes. The other two breweries in greater Charleston that I tried, Revelry and Tradesman, paled in comparison IMHO. I heard really good things about Holy City Brewing, but unfortunately we didn’t get a chance to visit HolyCity due to their very limited hours on Mondays and Tuesdays

The beer was delicious– and a flight sampler for $ 5, can’t beat it! The space is small, so be sure to get there early! The staff is fantastic and the brew house dog is so snuggly. I would recommend it if you are in the area. It is a bit hard to find, but just look for their mailbox!

Great beer — they have a nice variety, a little something for everyone. I love the jalapeño cilantro PA, and the Zingibier is always a favorite too. The welcoming and unpretentious space allows you to get up close and personal to the brewing process so you can learn a lil sumpin sumpin while you’re enjoying your brew. The people there were really nice and friendly, dog friendly environment too. Wish it was a little closer to my house on JI but definitely worth the trek to go back.

This place is awesome! Went after work on a Friday. Small brewery that is set up in what reminds me of a car repair garage. The theme of beards is everywhere, even the beer taps are beards. The owners give a tour of the brewery and go into detail of the process of brewing. Now to why everyone goes to a brewery: BEER. I tried the never winter wheat and and andale pale ale which has jalepeno and cilantro infused in it. They both had great one of a kind tastes. Will be back again soon!
