I had a pre-vacation mani/pedi yesterday that were very good experiences, and I even tried something different for me, a French tip in bright pink. Well, by last night I had decided I really didn’t like this and called to see what could be done about it short of paying $ 32 for another gel manicure. This was not the fault of The Hair Shoppe in any way, so I wouldn’t have been surprised if they said nothing could be done. Well, the manager called me right back and made what I felt was a very fair offer if I could take the current polish off myself. I appreciated it and now am beach ready thanks to the manager, Kathy!

A couple of weeks ago I had a great massage over the weekend. It was quite relaxing. I went in feeling pretty beat up to some sports injuries and the massage therapist really worked the areas good and used some special product to assist with sore muscles(BioFreeze). The environment was very relaxing and professional in appearance. The facility is top notch for the area and I’ve never had a bad experience there. I can’t really comment on the price too much of the service as I used a gift card that my wife purchased for me for Christmas last year, but the gift certificate was purchased at a discount price I know that and ended up being an excellent deal. The Hair Shoppe and Spa offers a full range of services, but I do not really have much experience with the rest of the establishment. Their website is really nice too though and they offer a rewards system.

I was in town visiting my brother for the weekend and mentioned that I wanted to get a manicure. He rummaged through a pile of stuff and found a gift card with a $ 30 balance. The gift card was about 10 years old, but he assured me he’d called and they said they didn’t expire. I made an appointment online for 3:30 that afternoon. Let’s be clear on that point — I logged into an online system, chose my requested service of a standard manicure, and the system offered me a 3:30 appointment. This is relevant later. I arrived and was greeted at the reception desk and given instructions to head upstairs. I chose a color and waited a few minutes — not long — for Marissa. Marissa was great. We made small talk about school dances(it was homecoming weekend for three area high schools), weddings, etc while she worked. It was clear they were closing at 4 p.m. as the place quieted down and the other staff packed up their things. Marissa set me up at a dryer, told me to sit for two full cycles of the dryer, and then she packed up her own stuff, but stayed upstairs where I was. When I was done and went downstairs to pay, I warmly greeted the staff member(I assume manager — it was someone different than my first encounter). She was disinterested and seemed rushed or impatient. I gave the gift card and explained it was old so if it didn’t work, I was prepared to pay. She acted as though this was a huge inconvenience while looking it up in their system, and then seemed surprised the $ 30 balance was still usable. I was trying to offer friendly chatter; she seemed put off by the fact that I was even talking to her. If you’re going to close at 4 — and want to really leave at 4 — don’t let customers schedule 3:30 p.m. appointments. For $ 22, I expect a really good manicure and better customer service.

I only have had pedicures done here. The quality is usually pretty good but I never see the same person twice. Lots of turnover. I receive many gift cards from my job, so I continue to go! The upstairs of the building is always very hot and stuffy no matter what time of year. Reception area is very nice. I called to get an appt recently and was told it was a 2 week wait. When I did have my appt, a teenager plopped down in the chair next to me and said«thank you for getting me in today on such short notice, my mom called this morning and begged!» REALLY…

Left the salon with wet hair, due to my time constraints, so was unsure exactly how my hair color came out. Marissa is a fabulous technician. I am 54, and have never had anyone LISTEN so well, discuss and follow through with such great results! She knew what direction I wanted to go and made it happen. You made my weekend and upcoming summer travels! Ps– beautifully managed business, very relaxing atmosphere– professional without the stuffy! Love! Cam

I have used this salon many different times over the past several years. It seems like I would find a hair dresser I liked and then lose them, they move on. One consistent thing about this place is the ladies manning the front desk are usually quite snotty, I do say charles! When you pay around $ 45 for a simple trim and straighten you would hope that the employees would at least be somewhat friendly, not simply disregard your presence as you are handing them their pay check or look down their noses at you if they do acknowledge you. The only positive note I can mention is they do seem to have some standards regarding the skill levels of the hair dressers they hire. I’ve never had a bad hair cut from them, but then again, I’ve never had them do anything special for me either.

Color & cut: I was very happy how the color of my highlights came out & with my bang trim. However, she didn’t get the color near my roots so I left looking like I was already 2 weeks into regrowth. I’m at 3 weeks since my appointment & already need colored again — normally I wait 5 – 6 weeks so I’m fairly unhappy about that. Atmosphere: I was taken on a tour of the salon & spa. Upstairs is the spa area, which seemed very nice, quiet, and clean. The downstairs salon area is split into 2 parts since they added onto the building. The new salon area had only one person working in it and seemed very polished, quiet, and relaxing. The old salon area, where my appointment was, was outdated and seemed like they crammed staff and customers in there. It was very hot, loud, and I was not able to relax at all. Overall: Although I liked the actual hair color, she did not get close to my roots which is now wasting my money and time to get my hair retouched sooner than I usually need to. I wouldn’t go back for hair services due to this & the fact that the experience was not pampering or relaxing at all, but I may try the salon services since that area looked nicer.

I went here for an underarm wax, so can’t really review much else! I was going on vacation to very, very hot Las Vegas the next day and didn’t want to have to worry about shaving when wearing cute, small, sleeveless dresses. I had an appointment elsewhere that fell through due to time constraints, so called the Hair Shoppe & Spa to see if I could get in — and they were able to schedule me an appointment just 15 minutes later. The downstairs reception area is very nice and the place is much larger than it looks from the outside — I was really pleasantly surprised. I had barely any wait for my waxer, and she went pretty quickly. Was it the best underarm wax I’ve ever gotten? Sadly, no. Most waxers will first wax the area, then go over it with a tweezer to make sure that they get any stray hairs that avoided the wax. Mine did not — so while the majority of the hair was removed, there were a few strays that I had to get at home. All this for $ 22 — which is pretty average for an underarm wax, but I expect a little better quality. When I was checking out at the reception, they gave me a goody bag with bare minerals brand makeup samples due to me being a first time customer. Awesome! I think the reception in general really boosted this place from a 3-star to a 4-star to me. HSS also sent me a 10% off coupon in the mail, which I always appreciate. I’d go back to to HSS, but I may shop around a bit first for non-emergency waxing appointments in the future!

I don’t live in North Canton anymore but on a recent trip home to visit my folks, I asked my mom to schedule me an appointment for a blow out, which they told my mom they could do. My stylist had no idea what a blow out was or how to do it. She simply dried my hair — which took about 25 minutes(a process that normally takes 10) — and then said she was going to put me in curlers. The blow out is not a new trend and is something that professional stylists should know how to do. Its been around too long to not be a tool of the trade and it’s embarrassing for the Hair Shoppe to be so behind the times.

It’s a nice place, but a bit«hit or miss» on service. I have had a good haircut(Alexis) and a good massage(I wish I could remember her name). However, there have been 3 haircuts by 3 different stylists that I have not been thrilled with. One girl chatted with coworkers and a random friend who seemed to wander in off the street the whole time and just pointed the hairdryer at my head. I felt like she may have forgotten I was there. She also cut the layers so poorly that I needed to get them fixed at another shop. I think it really depends on the stylist you get here!

The women in my family have been patronizing this place for years. I’m actually getting my hair and makeup done here for Charlie’s and my wedding. I’m starting to have some issues with them though: 1) I’ve been growing my hair out for the wedding, so I hadn’t gotten it cut in a long time. Last time I was home, I figured I really needed a trim, so I got an appointment. $ 35 for a trim, $ 42 with tip. Outrageous! For those prices I may as well have gotten my hair cut in DC. 2) We were planning a big spa day for the women on both sides of the family, plus the bridesmaids. Somewhere around 10 – 12 people. We wanted to make appointments for manicures/pedicures for everyone. Everyone is also getting their hair done for the wedding there. Considering how much business we’re bringing in, I thought we could maybe get a liiiiiiiiittle discount. Apparently not though. Now we’ve decided to go to a better spa, because they were going to charge us like $ 60/person for an hour mani/pedi(half hour for each). Screw that. For $ 15 more we can go to a better place, get an hour long pedicure, and a manicure with paraffin dip. And they have more chairs so we don’t have to go through so many cycles. 3) Most of the people who I liked most seem to have moved on from the Hair shoppe. Maybe it’s time for us to start moving on, too. Edit: I am removing a star because of yet another example of poor service/bad communication. We had to change the time for my hair appointment because the time of our wedding had to be changed(long story). So, we call up, ask if we can get my time changed, and then they tell me that THEHAIRDRESSERWHOAGREEDTODOMYHAIR, SETUPANAPPONTMENTANDHAD A PREVIEWAPPOINTMENTWITHMONTHSEARLIERDECIDEDTOTAKETHEDAYOFF. Uh, excuse me? We would not have found this out until the wedding day if we hadn’t had to change the time for the appointment, because, for some reason it didn’t occur to them that MIGHT be important. What. The. Eff. How could you not let us know? They tried to make up for it by offering a free preview appointment with another stylist, but now my confidence in them is extremely shaken. We made the appointment, but then due to hold ups at the bridal shop, missed the 3pm appointment, and when we told them we were going to be late, they told us they closed at 4. 4??? You have GOT to be kidding me. But then they said that the original stylist decided not to take the day off afterall. I just hope she doesn’t decide to change her mind again the day before the wedding or something, because I will seriously flip out.
