I have been coming here since I moved to north Bergen. My favorite is the chicken Cesar salad ! They have delicious food here and although he may seem in a rush sometimes(because of the phones) he is a very genuine guy and has the best pizzeria in town! I recommend this place to anyone. They also have excellent servers ! Amazing deals during Super Bowl and soccer.

First order from Palermos & the delivery was quick. Got a plain piazza and it was excellent — crispy crust, zesty sauce, right amount of cheese. I’m thrilled! BF got a steak sandwich and he really enjoyed it too. Real meat, not SteakUmm, with cheese on good Italian bread(with just the right amount of crunch). It’s all gone so it must have been delicious! He was very happy. Also got chicken Francaise and it’s the best I’ve had via delivery in this area. The chicken was pounded thin and the sauce was light and lemony. I will definitely be ordering from here again in the future.(Recently had a terrible experience with our old pizza/Italian food standby joint around the corner from where we live, so I’m glad we found this place which is even better than they were). Things happen for a reason and I’m glad we found Palermo!

Good food, ordered the baked clams and shrimp scampi, which comes with a generous salad or pasta and bread. My only complaint is that the delivery guy was horrible, took 2 hours to get my food and no apology.

Really really good. Aside from the obvious veg stuff, like pasta basics. They offer a delicious lentil soup, good balance of broth to legumes. Tastes fresh. A slice a Sicilian ain’t bad either. Kapiche?

Love their pizza! have tried many different varieties, and they have all been good. The dough is fresh, veggie are sauteed with garlic for extra flavor, and they are generous with their toppings and cheeses! I brought two pies home for a friend visiting from the west coast, and she also concluded the pizza was legit! Very very good, old and traditional Italian pizza(they don’t like it when you ask for edits on their menu) but usually they are right… pizza is good the way they serve it! too bad moved farther away and can’t even get delivery. Will still make the trip up there for their pizza.

Mediocre. We came here only because the place we really wanted to go to — the outstanding Trattoria La Sorrentina nearby — was closed for holidays(a brave/crazy thing to do in this day and age). Unilocal reviews for Palermo were good, so what the heck, right? Well… It’s trying to be two places — the neighborhood pizza joint with the glass-top tables and the big screen TV, and a partitioned-off classier dining area with tablecloths and a «dining» menu. But they’re separated by a hinged«saloon door» at unfortunately the precise height to prevent the waiters from seeing you, so they can’t see when you’re trying to flag them down, and since they can’t see you they don’t check on you to see how you’re doing or do you need any more water, or any of the other things you’d expect servers to do. Moreover, there was really nothing on the dining menu we actually wanted to eat. And when we told the server a couple of us were vegetarians, she thought we were ordering vegetables and wrote it down. It’s wise to speak clearly and slowly here. She brought ALMOST enough glasses of water for all of us, and set out napkins and cutlery for just 3 of us. And never returned. We eventually had to track down a waiter and ask if they could make something different for us, and he handed us the folded take-out menu which had a VASTLY better selection of food. He also failed to notice most of us didn’t have cutlery or place settings, and when we pointed this out, he asked us how many settings we wanted. One each is normal I believe… So we got 4 or 5 dishes to share, plus a salad and a pizza(there were 5 of us). Complimentary bread was hot and actually very good, yet the olive oil had a smattering of canned sliced pimento olives in it — something I’ve never seen before. The salad was slathered with bottled caesar sauce dumped on the top and just a few small croutons. The pizza was big and the crust just right, but the olives and mushrooms were flavorless and clearly from a can. He brought out paper plates for those of us who were having pizza, yet proper plates for those who were having the pasta and chicken. The spaghetti was OK but again the sauce tasted it like it came from a can or a bottle. The eggplant parm which one of us special-ordered was left untouched after a few bites. However the Chicken Piccata was actually very good indeed — tender thin slices with a very tangy lemon sauce with lots of capers. That was the highlight though. We figured it’s hard to get bad Italian food in Jersey, but evidently it is indeed possible. Indifferent and inattentive service, mediocre food, and there must be SO many better places nearby. The pizza can probably be pretty good as the other reviews here attest(though ours wasn’t great) but for real dining, you don’t want to go here.

Palermo’s Pizzaria is a staple at our house. My kids love the penne pasta in garlic & olive oil with chicken. Soooooo good. We have it at least once. Week!

My first time here, I ordered chicken Caesar salad, my order came so fast, but about the chicken. It’s came horrible, ‘seared’. And about the service, not liked, he did not ask me about the food, if food was good, I disappoint about the food and service.

I’ve been to this pizzeria only a few times to pick up pizza slices. the times I have been there, the environment was very friendly and entertaining. the orders were taking efficiently, the guys making the pizza were friendly, and the bartender was cool as well. all of this is related to service. as for the pizza, I normally have pepperoni pizza. the slices I have ordered here were very delicious. a crispy crust, followed by real pepperoni slices, a little oil to gather the taste, making this pizza well prepared. I enjoy it everytime I order, and hope to eat in the seating area they have to enjoy the environment while I eat. thanks: D

Amazing pizza, I love the pepperoni slice from here. They actually have a bar that you can sit and have a slice! No better pizzeria around.

A very legit«mom & pop» Italian joint! My favorite here is something they called the«Nonna», and the slices here are NY style:) They consistently have daily specials and deals during the holidays too. Friendly service, although the owner can be a bit of snob if he doesn’t personally know you that well, LOL Pastas are great here, and so is the calamari, which they can make it sweet or even spicy if you prefer. One of my favorite places for Italian and especially for pizza in Jersey!

The pizza isn’t bad, but isn’t anything special that would make you go out of the way for it. They are extremely busy during those after school hours. I went in around 3:30 and a lot of moms with uniformed kids. They sometimes have trouble cranking the pizza out and you are asked to wait a bit. Very small eating area for the pizzeria side. There is a restaurant area as well. I paid when I ordered, went back and the same cashier handling $$ was touching food, no gloves. Not good. I have tried their lasagne, and thought it was good. Over sauced, but they all are from most pizzerias.

First time i ordered here tonight. I just ordered a regular pie and two cannolis to try. I thought it was really good. The sauce was tasty and the dough was perfectly cooked. Good cheese. Not greasy at all! Im so skeptical about pizza places because im constantly disappointed. I definitely enjoyed it.

There is woman picking up the phone orders and she is awful, what a bad attitude helping out the customers. Second chance to this place and the person didn’t double check my order sending me the wrong sandwich…

One of the best plain slices in the area. Hands down. Every Tuesdays are $ 8 pies, don’t sleep on this.

I decided to order here for the first time today. Majority of the reviews here had 4 or 3 stars and thought why not? I was really in the mood for a cold turkey sandwich. The lady on the phone took my order and read it back to me. My boyfriend got a grilled chicken hero that came with mozzarella and sun dried tomatoes. We also wound up ordering a piece of cheesecake and chocolate cake. It took our order 45 minutes to get here. The man at the door also verbally told us it was higher price than what it said on the receipt. Next, to my disappointment I got a hot turkey sandwich with the cheese melted over everything. Usually I wouldn’t complain but I was really in the mood for a cold one with the bread not toasted. Honestly, this does make a big difference in the sandwich world. In general, the sandwiches in my opinion were not the best but not the worst. My boyfriend enjoyed his sandwich but wound up picking out the sun dried tomatoes. The cheesecake and chocolate cake wasn’t that great I have experienced better. I will give this place another chance and keep everyone updated… but for now this place is easily 2 ½ stars …

You can tell what part of North Bergen you grew up in by proclaiming which pizzeria is the best. For those who grew up uptown, east of Bergenline, Palermo’s is the best pizza in town. And while that statement is perhaps an exaggeration, Palermo’s is certainly a delicious slice worthy of local accolades. A doughy crust and crispy body holds together a cheesy slice bedded on a subtle(but flavorful) sauce. Over the past ten years, Palermo’s has also evolved into quite an Italian bistro. The food is authentic and a reminder of North Jersey’s strong Italian roots. Remember, no matter how glowing any review may be, the high marks are relative to proximity. West of Bergenline, locals can just as easily dismiss Palermo’s as average. Downtown North Bergen? Same deal. If you’re new to the area and Palermo’s is the nearest pizzeria around, by all means proceed to order with confidence. No need to jump in your car and take a drive elsewhere. But the same holds true if you’re not a local. You may not find a long drive to Palermo’s worth it when you are surrounded by equally(perhaps better) options in town.

Got a groupon here for $ 25 and came here for late dinner last night with a friend. The set up is a bit strange but if you want to dine in, go through the western saloon style doors and it’s almost like a different world. the menu was pretty good for a pizza looking place. The waiter was very friendly and gave us plenty of time to look at the large menu. We got shrimp fra diavolo(yum and it was right amount of spiciness) over linguini and chicken sorrentino with salad(big enough to share) Bread was nice, warm and soft and came with a plate of olives w/olive oil. I quite liked the place! total came out to be ~$ 30 pre tip. Portion size was pretty large and it was surprisingly tasty. I’ll come get take out next time! they also deliver if you live in the area.
