Off The Record used to be in downtown Coos Bay before they moved to the BiMart shopping center. I used to buy a lot of records back in the day from them. Of course we all know the story of how records became obsolete when CD’s and later on, digital methods like MP3 came along. That should have killed off this great local tradition of a store but it didn’t! What is old is new again. Now with some audio-oriented folks wanting analog instead of digital, here is Off The Record with REAL records for sale, many of which are quite popular and collectible. Making it through the technological transition bespeaks the kind of customer loyalty the owner of Off The Record has engendered for decades which enabled the business to survive. Stop in, browse and chat with the man. It is almost like a trip back to the Seventies and I bet the guy will live and work at his store until he is past his seventies too. Once he’s gone, he’s gone for good so get while the getting is good!

I’m biased because this is my family’s business and Unilocal may filter me, but I don’t care. I’m going to review anyway! 2013 is the Off the Record’s 29th year in the Coos Bay/North Bend area and despite the ever-evolving music scene we’re still going strong. My dad, Bob, has owned and operated the store since 1984. He’s the only employee you’ll find there these days and he just rocks. Dad is a music encyclopedia and pretty much anything you’re looking for, you can find here or he can order it for you and have it in stock within a couple days. If you don’t know the name or title of a song/album, he can often help you nail it down. If he can’t figure it out, sometimes I get a call. We’re all about customer service and will do what we can to get you what you want(as long as it’s in print). Couple Tips: — Our store has turned into a vinyl collector’s HEAVEN. We have thousands upon thousands of used records just waiting for you to dig through. Trust me, if vinyl is your thing you’ll want to spend an afternoon or two here and will keep coming back to check out the«new» stuff. — Yes, we can take your used vinyl and CDs in exchange for trade and/or cash(which is less than the trade value). — We share our building with a Frozen Yogurt place. Music and delicious treats under one roof? AWESOME. — We sell music by local artists and often have tickets to concerts in the area. Come by! We’re open Tue — Sat from 10 – 6 and open until 7pm on Fridays.

yes, i agree — i too shop there once in a while — and i really love the selections. Most of all i love the feeling when i walk in the place — simple and relaxed. And with it being a LOCAL business — i definately support it!

Okay, so I don’t actually shop here all that often, but… when I do, I find exactly what I’m looking for! If you’re into music… you’ll LOVE Off the Record! Great selection. Great ownership! Iconic in Oregon’s Bay Area for more years than I can remember!
