Much horror stories had been written of government offices and redtape. This one is a salutation of the kind women who run the operations in Chicagoland. I needed to replace my Green Card recently and I went to the USCIS Web site to get the process rolling. I read that it may take up to 6 months for my replacement. Ouch. There goes my overseas travel plans this year. :( Shortly after filling out the application, and paying up to $ 380 for my bariatrics, I braced myself for a long wait. A week later, my Post Office confirmation returned in my mailbox with a separate official acknowledgement letter that the govt received my money and form. Then another week later, I received the appointment letter to show up at the Norridge office. The appointment was at 8 a.m. on a Friday, and by 7:45, the line started to form outside. The officer greeted us all in a cheery fashion and proceeded to detail the procedures. BTW, it’s not good enough to have your cell phone on Silent mode, it has to be left in your car. It is a no-fuss, sterile office, but the wait was quick. Within 25 minutes, I was processed and given a customer service survey form to rate them and my experience. Excellent all around. And painless. Now I hope to get my new card in a month, at most. One can only hope.
