It is what it is. An overpriced dive bar right next to campus. I would in no way recommend this place, but it’s not really deserving of a scathing review. This is me putting in as much effort in this review as they do with their restaurant. Also, avoid the restrooms.

Its an okay place for drinks, its an okay place for lunch. On weekend nights though, this is a place to avoid. Super busy, filled with college students and its just in my opinion a crowd I like to avoid. Other than that though, its an okay place but I prefer Ghent area bars and restaurants.

Really enjoy this place. Have been here for lunch for the special. The pulled pork is great but I really like the Wings. Good place to go before and after an event at the Ted. Open space, they even have music from time to time. Drink specials and Happy Hour. Worth a duck in to check out and grab something to nibble on.

We were in town for ODU graduation and wanted a lunch place within walking distance. If you like bar-b-q this place is for you. We sat outside on the patio but the dining room was cute. The food was good and the service was great.

Horrible owner and staff just follows in his footsteps, they are very selfish and don’t even care if their business makes money! What restaurant bar does that? Will never bring my business or friends here again.

They have a new menu. No more juke fries but their loaded fries basket is pretty good and filling. The BBQ sandwich is awesome. Menu is over price for college bar food… Are you kidding me, $ 16.99 for a dozen wings!

I understand that I’m not coming here for great food or drinks. I do except some service though. I went in for a quick after work drink early on a Friday(6ish) and it was dead(maybe five people there including me and my friend). Still, it took 10 minutes for the server to come and get our drink orders. Another 20 minutes passed without any drinks or anyone stopping by. So we cancelled our order and left. Just wanted a drink. Seriously, terrible service. The bartender was nice, though. It seemed liked the people at the bar had drinks. If you decide to go here and you want food or drinks, *only* sit at the bar.

Working in the area and stopped in for lunch. I ordered the lunch special *2pc BBQ Chicken and Fries*. The taste of the chicken was ok, but it was hardly warm. Seems like they took it out of a pan from the previous day, attempted to heat it and put it on the plate. The fries were also so heavily seasoned with what tasted like season salt from the local grocery store they were almost inedible. Then to finish off, we were told there was a .50 surcharge to use a debit/credit card. Won’t be back to this place.

My friend and I are in town on business and we decided to try this place because it was close to the hotel and we were in the mood for some drinks. I asked about the price of a few of the bourbons. The Jim Bean was $ 3 a shot, but the Knob Creek was $ 8, so I figured I’d go with an old trustworthy double Jameson(that I assume would be somewhere in between). My friend ordered a vodka/cranberry(very weak) and the pulled pork sandwich. About 5 minutes after we got our drinks and food, my friend was hit in the leg by an ice cube. One of the bartenders then comes up to us and asks her if she wants to try out a new shooter because apparently between 6 – 9 they test out new drinks. We’re not into it, but she won’t stop asking. She then apologizes for THROWINGANICECUBEATUS because she thought that we were her friends… Our waitress comes up to apologize after that bartender finally leaves us, and the waitress says our bill will be comped. We said thank you. Another bartender comes up and apologizes as well. My friend ordered a double(because of the weakness of the single) vodka/cran, assuming that everything post«comp» discussion we’d have to pay for, so we were prepared for that. When the bill came, not only were we shocked to see that we were charged for everything — minus the pulled pork — but the double Jameson was $ 16??? For $ 7 more I could buy an entire bottle and not be in such a loud and literally assaulting atmosphere. We didn’t protest because at that point we just wanted to leave… though not before the ice cube pitcher tried to give us some kind of watermelon shooter… again…we were very clearly not interested the first time… Needless to say, we are in town for another week and we will not be returning no matter how convenient it is.

Went for lunch, ordered the pulled pork sandwich. Sandwich was good but the place was dark and smelled. Don’t think I will be going back.

Had lunch with my daughter and Great granddaughter, as we entered the restaurant it reeked of bleach. We opted for outside. Waitress was friendly and attentive. I ordered the Gator Tails, very spicy seasoning and tough. Also a bit pricey for amout in serving. Mojo Bones should take this item off the menu! Also ordered appetizer platter, it was excellent… everything hot, fried crispy & not greasy. It included pickle spears, okra, hush puppies, & French fries. My daughter had BBQ wings, it came with French Fries. Both very good. My GGdaughter ordered the hamburger, it was over cooked. As mentioned before the French fries were very good. Their Voodoo sauce that was served with gator tails tasted like catsup & mayo mixed together… no flavor. Do not think I will return.

I went here for lunch with my family today. The special board lured us in… I’m a huge fan of barbecue. The waitress seemed polite but she was near the bar the majority of the time with the rest of the staff gossiping. The food was okay. It was nothing special. The wait for it was ridiculous. It took over 30 minutes for the food to come out(we were a table of 3 and there was only one other patron in the restaurant). We had a problem with our receipt and the bartender came over to handle it. She was extremely rude. I’ll most likely not eat there again because of the overall experience at the restaurant.

I do like some of the food here, but it isn’t worth the hassle of eating at this place. First off– the food is OKAY, not great, not bad. The service is extremely slow however. The location next to ODU seems to have bad management. You cannot order liquor during the day, which isn’t a issue, but shouldn’t be the case. They are often out of items. Yesterday they were out of 3 items I tried to order. They also don’t have clear specials. On the website it says they have 5 dollar wings on wednesdays, when I went in person a sign on the wall said they had 6 dollar wings, however I came to find out that special didn’t apply til after 7pm– neither the sign or the website listed a time frame. I go often for lunch– but will no longer be going. I cannot take the slow service any longer. Mojo Bones has the potential to be a really great place, but until they learn the basics of service and make some better management choices, it will not reach its potential.

It was an alright spot to visit the Customer Service was excellent. The beer selection and drink specials are outstanding. I went with two others we had the cheese fries covered in bacon(it was hot and tasted pretty good), I had ½ rack of ribs, pulled pork, collard greens, the red potatoes, and deviled eggs. The ribs were decent better than i expected, pork was seasoned well, the collards, potatoes and deviled eggs left a lot to be desired.

Went there for lunch. We arrived early and beat the lunch crowd but there was only one waitress and she was new. So, we were sitting for about 15 – 20 minutes before we even ordered and got our drinks. Service was extremely slow and we saw several people balk and leave the restaurant. Other than the slow service, my grilled chicken sandwich tasted good.

They have great BBQ. I haven’t had anything else on the menu, so I can’t say anything about it. There’s an open mike night on Thursdays, which is kind of cool. This place has never been busy when I’ve been in, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. The crappy thing is that they close at midnight though… Not sure what the deal is with that, when Greenie’s right across the street is open til the requisite 1:30. Long story short, come have a BBQ sandwich, then hop across the street… Better prices, more people, less bitchy service.

Ummm… wtf mate? We ordered take-out from here and what a mistake! We ordered the mac n cheese, the burger, bbq sampler #4, basket of pickles, and the ½ rack of ribs. While the bbq items were fair the other items should make the«chef» embarrassed. I’m a bit confused as to how a chef can make mac n cheese from a kraft box bought at the food lion across the street and then put it on the menu and call it «specialty mac n cheese»??? On top of all of that it was not only awful(i mean it must have been the microwavable kraft mac n cheese) but also the portion was unbelievable — it was literally ½ cup for $ 6. I’ve spent 2 years living in NYC so believe me I know expensive but this was just plain unfair. The«house» chips are out of a ruffles bag — as an owner and chef wouldn’t you be embarrassed about this? I mean we could have just crossed the street and gone to food lion and purchased all of this ourselves for 1⁄3 of the price. My burger was requested medium well and came out charcoal. The side of cole slaw with the bbq sampler was a condiment container of cole slaw(yea…a tablespoon of coleslaw is what they call a side). If this was my joint I’d be embarrassed. Needless to say I’ll never be back — they don’t know how to cook, they rip you off, and they serve you store bought items. What’s the point?
