Handsome Biscuit is one of those places that serves up insta-worthy food that is equally palatable. Many restaurants make some variation of chicken and carbs(read: waffles, biscuits, etc.) and only get one of the components right(great waffle and sad, dry chicken, or bone-dry biscuit and fantastic fried chicken). Handsome gets both down pat. The sweet potato biscuits are something to write home about. Perfectly layered and moist, not over-baked. I had the pleasure of meeting the Hella Fitzgerald($ 6.75): a biscuit sandwich with juicy fried chicken, bacon, shredded cheese and red-eye(coffee) gravy. I was worried that this would be too heavy before a stop at the beach but it was sufficient. Paired with a house-made aguafresca($ 1.50), I was ready to hit the boardwalk. I’d definitely skip the fast food breakfast and come back here to devour all of the other biscuit sandwiches on the menu the next time I’m in town.

I FINALLY got to try Handsome Biscuit, and I could not have been happier. I’ve been to the other Porter-Hausmann restaurant’s and loved them. I wasn’t disappointed with this one. There have been plenty of times where I’ve hyped up restaurants in my head to have it fall flat when I try them. But this definitely wasn’t one of those times. My friend and I got there a couple of minutes when it opened and the parking lot was already almost full. I managed to snag one of the last spots. The parking lot is SUPER small, but there is street parking around the area. The restaurant itself is super small too. There are only 4 tables inside, but there is outdoor seating as well(although not ideal in the winter obviously). I ordered the Hella Fitzgerald. WOW. The fried chicken was HUGE and a little hard to eat actually. That doesn’t make it any less delicious though, it was perfectly fried. The bacon was thick cut and a good amount. I do wish they had some more of the sausage gravy on the biscuit. The biscuit itself didn’t have too much flavor to it, but with everything else, it was still enjoyable! My friend ordered hash browns to share, which weren’t too bad. I enjoyed the seasoning, but we were too full to finish it all. The housemade soda was good, nothing too special though honestly. They change their flavors frequently. I’m a huge fan of Toast and would probably chose it over Handsome biscuit, because of how small the place is/how inconvenient it is. And I think Toast’s food is more flavorful and the combinations are better.

I’ve gotten food here a few times since they opened and it’s good but sometimes just downright odd. Things are frequently ill constructed or just messy because of what they are. I’ve really only enjoyed one thing and it is never executed consistently. The big negatives since it opened has always been hours and crowds. Over the years it changed the hours some but still hasn’t figured out a way to manage the back-ups and honestly I just don’t find the offerings worth the time it takes to get them.

This is a small tucked away, super trendy place to eat. The food is amazing. It was almost stupid how amazing the food was! This is definitely a must see if you consider yourself a foodie. As for the specs. I enjoyed the AC Slaughter during my visit. This sandwich is comprised of amazing pulled pork, topped with Apple cole slaw, and a warm biscuit to hold everything together. I opted for the Cole slaw on the side which was equally amazing. The pulled pork was savory and juicy(not dried or over cooked). The cole slaw was crisp, fresh made. And the biscuit? Amazing! You will need silverware with this meal. Brunch for two came to about $ 18, well worth it for the amazing food and trendy environment.

Sometimes you go somewhere and want to review it(because it’s awesome) and are forced to only give it 5 stars. I had bookmarked this place and am the last of friends to eat at this establishment. I hear its all about the biscuit or was it the chicken? I am so sorry for denying my stomach of the yummy goodness that I ultimately received from here. I do however promise to make it up to you sweet tummy by coming back for more. I love that the menu is small; allowing me a possible opportunity to eat everything on there. How accomplished I would feel after that feat! It is a small eatery, a couple tables inside and a couple tables outside. We waited in line for a few minutes but that gave us time to check out what other patrons were eating. I choose the chicken salad sandwich, picked the pb and j for my kids and my husband selected the pulled pork sandwich. First off my child ate half of her sandwich(she is the picky one so that’s a definite plus). I was in awe of the biscuit and the chicken salad was fantastic. I tried the pulled pork and it did have a kick to it as promised! I was completely satisfied and full after this puts top for lunch and look forward to stopping here again in the future. Hey, the future is tomorrow; I wonder if it will be my lucky day!
