The Spillway Bar. It is a landmark in Norco, and the stuff of local legend. Everyone who is anyone has been in the Spillway Bar. Even though it is a dive, it is a relaxing place if you can get past the smell of smoke. For every holiday there is something going on parties, cookouts, bands. Everyone is welcome. There have been great times here and even one suicide outside. The people in the community still mourn the loss. I don’t go often, but the selection of spirits is really not bad. Don’t go in expecting gleaming fixtures or marble floor, but you can find a comfortable place to grab a drink and listen to the hum of amicable conversation. You can cash your paycheck here for a fee. Occasionally there are bands playing in here, they are always um… better when you have been drinking, but some of them tear down the house. The patrons here are a mix of plant workers in the area and locals who just like to hang out. People who go to the Spillway and fish stop here to grab some cold ones after a long day. Anyone is welcome as long as you aren’t a jackass. There is not tolerance for irritating people and woman slapping in the Spillway Bar. There are always men ready to stand up and intimidate you if you are a sassy mouth jerk disrupting the general mood of the quiet camaraderie in the afternoon. In the evenings, the crowd is more lively. but it is still not the place to go if you plan on having a bout of «little man syndrome» the warning grunt, may likey be followed by the sound of a scraping barstool, and I can’t promise what will or wont happen after that. People love this place. Often, there are cars parked down Airline. It makes me wonder how all these people fit inside the little place. It is worth stopping by to grab a draft beer and see the people that make up part of the soul of Norco.
