Awesome food, great service and the best patio — it’s the most beautiful setting! The server was so knowledgeable and helpful to suggest a great glass of wine, plus a tasty cocktail to start with. I’ve been here several times before and it is always a perfect and memorable experience.

Really fabulous quality and delicious food in a non-pretentious atmosphere. Heirloom tomato soup is always a delicious choice and one of my favorites with a nice crisp, floral bouquet wine. Their duck preparations have been some of the best I’ve ever had. It’s a bit of a drive, but worth it!

For the price… Prepare to leave hungry. French Onion soup is delicious. Mostly fish options and VERY small portions. We got the cheese plate to share but only got a smell. For that price I need to leave full. I had to stop somewhere else for a burger after lunch at Colterra.

This was our third visit to Colterra in the past 6 months, and I can say, it just gets better and better. Not that the two previous visits weren’t fantastic – they were. Professional service, compelling menus for both lunch and dinner, great wine list, and just-perfect food that shows true kitchen expertise and taste. Tonight was a more casual affair, i.e., sitting at the bar sharing plates instead of a full meal at a table. With the very professional guidance of bartender Zach, we split the Brassato di Manzo, a 7-hour braised Waygu beef – and it was extraordinary. Seriously, seriously delicious. Paired with a lovely field green and asparagus salad, which tapered the richness of the braise, it was a delectable meal. One of the things I truly love about Colterra is the selection of wines by the glass. I’m always a fan of the complex whites, but tonight chose a simple, and organic, Cotes du Rhone. Absolutely perfect(and at $ 9 a glass, I’ll have another please!). And, of course, a visit to Colterra means you get to enjoy the classic rustic décor and super sweet Niwot vibe. This is becoming one of my favorite destinations for food in the Boulder, or the entire Denver, area. I highly recommend it.

This was the first anniversary of our beloved daughter’s death. We were with our son, so there were three of us. We needed a nice quiet and quality restaurant. Only one came to mind… Colterra. We arrived at 7pm on a Wednesday night. There were many tables filled. We couldn’t have made a better choice. The atmosphere of this restaurant is subdued, but also has a very welcoming warm feeling. Our server Ben was a professional. He had no idea why we were there that evening. His demeanor was above and beyond. This man knew exactly when to talk with us, when to ask for drink orders, when to ask for our food orders, and desert. He just somehow knew when to do everything… and at exactly the right time. We were not there for the food — just to have a nice quiet place to talk about her and of our fond memories of her. I must say, the food was excellent, as always. Colterra is our go to place, regardless of the occasion.

We went here on Friday night for Denver restaurant week. Our server, Dave, did a great job educating us about the menu and checking in to see how we were doing. It was a quiet atmosphere, perfect for catching up with our friends. The prefix menu for restaurant week did not disappoint! The soup du jour was creamy and flavorful, while the beef carpaccio was light and prepared beautifully. For the main course, my cod was fabulous. Light and flaky, paired well with white beans, spinach and mussels. My girlfriend had the pork ragout, which was warm, hearty and a plethora of well balanced flavors. Our friends had the beef sugo, which disappeared so quickly I barely got to try it! Overall, we give our experience two thumbs up and will return to try out the regular menu! And maybe the patio as well.

Generally great food. Consistently bad service at brunch. I don’t think they train their brunch crew, I believe brunch, is how they train their dinner crew. Definetly go, but skip brunch and, go, for dinner. Side note, eggs Benedict were hard boiled. Who’s checking quality.

This is my favorite restaurant in Boulder County. It’s white table cloth without being stilted and uncomfortably formal. The food is excellent, whether it is lunch, dinner, or brunch on the weekend. I like to go to this place for holidays and let them do the cooking and clean up; Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Easter, they always have something special.

I am so pissed, i had looked forward to a nice dinner to cap off the year and celebrate a little. However i had a tasteless dinner and the obsequious waiter never even asked how i liked the dinner. I had a «Bouillabaisse» which consisted of a tasteless broth, lots of tiny potato cubes, some red crap floating around and i had to count, 2 shrimp, 5 muscles and a hunk of nondescript fish, all tasteless. Crap, i could have done it better myself. On the good side, the bread was good, the butter excellent, and the wine was ok, even at @ 12 a glass. I have been going here for over 10 yrs, but i think this was the end, perhaps when i cool down, i might come back for lunch in 6 months. But never for dinner. Finally, i hate to bad mouth another guy’s business, but i think these restaurant guys have it so tough that they have to skimpon everything. the END

We always have a great experience at Colterra :) The staff is knowledgeable and attentive, the organic food and drink selection is amazing and delicious… couldn’t ask for anything more! The ambience is great too, such a cute old building and outdoor patio. My hubby and I first met at Salt(their sister restaurant) in downtown Boulder, but since Colterra is closer to where we live, we’ve made this our new anniversary celebration spot! ;) I hope they keep making the pumpkin soup during the fall and winter months… yummmmm!

In late October I had a meal at Colterra that wasn’t up to the restaurant’s usual standards, and the dinner was a disappointment in several ways. The friend I dined with didn’t care for the soup and sent it back to the kitchen after only a small taste. When I got home I noticed the soup hadn’t been removed from the bill. The next day I contacted Colterra via the restaurant’s website. When I didn’t get a response, I posted about it on Unilocal later that week. Two Colterra employees, Zach Weinstein(head bartender), and Cory Knudson(general manager), saw my Unilocal review and contacted me to rectify the situation. I was back at Colterra last night. The food and service were excellent, and both Zach and Cory went above and beyond to ensure the meal was a great experience. Thanks to you both for rectifying the situation. I appreciate it and look forward to another visit to Colterra.

Came here for dinner recently and was pleasantly surprised there was no wait without a reservation. It was too cold to eat outside, but there’s a very pretty patio area that would be nice on a warm night. Our server was warm, attentive, and accommodating(even to a couple random requests). We started with a couple cheeses and the salmon mousse, which was delicious. For the main course, I had the Early Fall Vegetable Tasting, which consisted of goat cheese raviolo, squash, grilled corn, quinoa and chickpea fritters, and a kale and beet salad. It was all very tasty! I especially liked the grilled corn in the tomato coulis. So fresh and yummy. Overall a very nice atmosphere, great service, and delicious food!

We always have a good experience at Colterra, but I feel like it’s still not quite up to par with the BEST restaurants I have been to at this price point. Everything tastes great, nothing specifically wrong with it, just not entirely mindblowing enough for that kind of money to get a 5 star from me.

One of my favorite restaurants in the area! Always a real treat. For Saturday brunch on the patio, I had a Grand Mimosa and the daily special Eggs Benedict. My friend had the Au Pear martini, a lovely beet/walnut salad and the carrot/apple soup special. The service was excellent! We both enjoyed our meals(after I poked the beef off of mine) and specialty cocktails! I would like to add one note for the staff. I haven’t eaten beef in 27 years. I’m not allergic, which is good – because it was, in fact, beef – not cured ham on the Benedict. My friend also said it was for sure beef, or the worst ham she’s ever had. Either way– thanks for taking it off the tab.

This is a quaint little restaurant and bar in the cute little teeny tiny town of Niwot(which is about a 15 minute drive from Boulder). Located in a little old house this restaurant has a quaint luxury and elegance to it. The waiters and very formal but friendly and the menu is upscale. We started off at the bar with some cocktails, I saw a few people dining there. It’s a small bar with seating for at least 10 people. I drank ginger-ale(I know) but I was not feeling well after leaving the National Park with all the winding roads. Since we had a light dinner prior to coming here and meeting up with family, I was not having dinner. I did sample some risotto but it tasted more like plain olé white rice. The dish sounded amazing. Seafood risotto with lobster, crab, shrimp, etc. But lacked the starchy consistency that a true arborio rice provides. Overall if I’m in the area, I would still come back and sample other dishes. We were here during the beginnings of a snow storm so it was cozy and had lots of great windows to see the snow falling down.

We’ve gone twice for restaurant week plus a couple times for brunch and it’s always been a winner! Great service, great food, good portion size, nice wine list. We’re definitely fans!

Colterra may have just become my new favorite high-end dining experience in Boulder County. Period. We made our reservation via OpenTable and I will say that I don’t think we’ve EVER had a restaurant outwardly acknowledge the notes that we include in the reservation — nevermind going out of their way to accommodate them! Through OpenTable, we noted that a booth would be preferable and upon arrival, the hostess confirmed that a booth is still what we wanted. Often times we have to ask a second time because it gets overlooked. They were on top of it. How nice! Additionally, my boyfriend noted that we were there celebrating our anniversary. The hostess wished us a happy anniversary, as did our waiter and they graciously gave us a crème brûlée dessert on the house to celebrate. That alone might be enough to warrant 5 stars! But, it gets better! The service was fantastic. He was very attentive but not extensively so. We were able to have a nice, quiet and private meal with limited interruption but still felt well attended to. Oh gosh, and the food!!! Divine. Simply delicious. We started with the curried butternut squash soup, so good and highly recommended. Perfectly spiced and delightfully smooth. For entrees, the boy got the lobster scallop risotto which was a special. DELICIOUS! I got the crispy duck breast(served with polenta and garlic wilted chard) which was also very good. And that free crème brûlée would have been just as tasty if we had paid for it ;) Overall, I would say that Colterra can easily compete with the best in Boulder. Dine here. You’ll love it.
