JCPenney Optical

I hate to write a bad review about the optical center, but this was kind of ridiculous.
I came here to get glasses on a Sunday. The hours were listed as 1p-​5p, but when I got there at 2p, the place was closed. I contacted a manager at JcPenney who told me that the optical was separate from the store and they did not have contact information to the whoever runs it. How is that even a thing? Anyway, I left because I wasn’t going to wait around to see if someone would kindly show up 2 hours late.
This was my first time coming to the optical and I was very disappointed. When I called at 4:30, someone finally arrived but they weren’t even apologetic. I would understand if something happened that they had to take care of, but leaving customers without any notice or any information was so rude.
Maybe I’ll try them again, maybe I should have known better. But if someone is so unprofessional, they can’t even show up on time, what can I really expect from my second visit?

I have been going to Dr. Pasman for many years. My young kids are also her patients and are excited to see her at every checkup. Dr. Pasman is very knowledge, attentive, and trustworthy. Her diagnosis is superior and she answers all questions that I have. I highly recommend her services to everyone I know.

Dr. Pasman has to go, she is absolutely horrible.
The employee’s who work here, especially the manager Nancy are amazing.
Dr. Pasman however is rude, childish, and unprofessional. She does not know how to speak to customers, she talks down to customers, she treats you like crap. She has been here longer than any other optometrist, I have been going to this location for 13+ years and will no longer go because of Dr. Pasmam.

I saw Dr P. a few weeks ago. I am also on a lot of meds due to my health problems.
The doctor was extremely thorough and compassionate toward my optical and health needs. She is very knowledgeable and courteous. I have a severe dry eye as a result of my meds and she recommended the eye drops that I need and will see me for a follow up to make sure I am getting better. This was a very detailed eye exam, and probably the best one I’ve ever had.
The optical staff is was also great and efficient. I am definitely recommending the Doctor and the optical.

My dad had a bad bacterial infection (sepsis) and pneumonia July 2011 that required him to spend a few months in the hospital. I took my dad to JCPenney Optical to get him an eye exam and a new pair of glasses. Unfortunately due to the high number of steroids and antibiotics that were pumped into his body, he developed cataracts. So, we were advised by Dr. Pasman that he needed to see a more advanced doctor to have the cataracts removed. No biggie.
I appreciate the compassionate service Dr. Pasman’s staff gave me and my dad.
My personal complaint was that Dr. Pasman was abrasive to me and a little condescending to my dad (he was in a wheelchair at that time). My dad’s wheelchair ACCIDENTALLY hit the side of one of the desks and she went back to see what damage was done (there was no damage) and she clenched her hands in a fist and rolled her eyes. I would NEVER EVER treat someone who just got out of a medical nightmare in that way.
On our way out, Dr. Pasman re-​examined the desk and whispered something to one of her staffers. Not cool…

This location is NOT closed. I was just there about two weeks ago in April 2010.
Let me first say, I have no insurance. That means that I seriously shopped around (sadly, spreadsheet type shopping) when it was time to go see the eye doctor. JcPenny was offering the best rebate on my contacts along with a lower lenses cost for glasses — the best price in one stop.
I made the appointment to go see Dr. Ami Patel a few days beforehand. (Note that she is only in the office 3 – 4 times a week.) When I first arrived, the area was busy and I wasn’t quite welcomed warmly by the staff, but that quickly changed. Dr. Patel was extremely patient as I detailed everything. At past places, I had felt rushed, but here she took the time to explain why extending my contacts longer (aka b/​c I was cheap and running out) was a bad thing to do. She was personable yet professional. Furthermore, she was very easy to get into contact with. I was trying out new contact lenses and she was prompt in following up and addressing all of my concerns.
After I was done with the appointment, the staff was very helpful in getting me set up. I even got free shipping to home on my contacts (which is great since I live in the city). My one complaint was that my price estimate for my lenses was about $ 125 off and that was really frustrating (it was one of the reasons why I picked them). They had a ridiculous sale on frames and lenses so I got new frames and saved over $ 150. While I found a pair of frames, the selection at this particular store was limited. If they hadn’t had a sale, I would have gone elsewhere for my glasses.
Overall, it was a great experience. I will be back for exams/​contacts, but will probably end up going elsewhere for frames or new lenses.
