Worst dining experience ever. I’ve never had such terrible service. The waitress didn’t introduce herself(we found out it was Marcy when we got the check), she wasn’t friendly, in fact a little bit rude. She threw a water jug and plastic cups on the table but didn’t pour any — and walked away. She didn’t get our drink or food order correct. She did not apologize once. She rushed us out i stead of trying to sell her restaurant with more drinks or dessert. «Do you want your check or something else». The table next to us obviously had the same problem with our waitress too. They called the manager over to complain. The manager didn’t seem to care what they had to say either. Then our bill came. The waitress threw that on the table too and mumbled as she walked away«by the way on parties more than 520% gratuity was added. WHAT?! We were at the point of giving her no tip. So we called the manager over. After our rant about the service, he let out a big sigh and said«i’ll take the gratuity off». Did we get one apology for the shitty service? NO. All in all, the food was just OK but the service and management was atrocious. How are they still in business?

This place is a total tourist trap but as a RI native, I still love coming here. It’s such a great atmosphere in the summer. Sometimes get a bit pushy which is annoying but you learn to deal with it. Be prepared to wait a bit for drinks as this place tends to be on the busier side for a going out spot in the summer.

I don’t eat a lot of lobster. Why? I’m glad you asked, as I find conversing with you to be quite pleasant. I suppose it’s because it’s usually wildly overpriced(when compared to other, more delicious proteins), and its flavor tends to be pretty bland unless it’s soaked in butter. But everything tastes good when it’s soaked in butter. However, I don’t spend a lot of time in New England(as I try to avoid Red Sox fans at all costs), and I found myself in Newport at The Landing… so I figured I might as well give it a whirl. Well, The Landing has done nothing to convince me I need to eat more lobster. I can’t speak for the other lobster rolls in the area, but The Landing’s is… not good. The lobster was dry and stringy, and virtually inedible until I asked for some melted butter. Then it was OK. But everything tastes good when it’s soaked in butter. This place has a gorgeous view of the water, but I’d stick to beers.

Are you going to Newport? Well than you have to land here. Place is always hopping. It’s a great location in the center of town. The views, the drinks, the people all make it come together to be a great spot to sip summer cocktails and enjoy yourself. Never a dull moment there. At least not whenever I go. ;)

Another update and a few yeas later it’s just as good as ever. If you’re going anywhere else for fresh seafood in Newport, you’re out of your mind!

I would describe the landing as a standard bar/restaurant that is more about location than food. Located right by water in Downtown Newport, I came here for drinks and a meal since I wanted to stay by water and enjoy the live music they had going on. The scene is upbeat and fun. A bunch of people enjoying some summer drinks, and live music to add to the mood. I partook by ordering some basic drinks along with some calamari, and fish & chips. The calamari was pretty average, but the dipping sauce that came with it was surprisingly amazing. It was a peppery mix that completely transformed a mediocre dish into something really good. The fish and chips wasn’t too good. The fish was way too battered, which gave it a soggy taste and texture. I probably wouldn’t come here for anything other than drinks and the location by the water. The calamari, as I mentioned, is pretty average. But the sauce is so dam good that I’d recommend trying this dish. It’s a great compliment to drinks. Overall though, I’ll prob venture elsewhere on my next trip to Newport.

I had the fried Clams and my friends had the sheared scallops. I was a little afraid that the claims might be some frozen clam package. This was not the case. They were very fresh and very big clams. They came with fries and very good cold slaw. The portion was Hugh. I tried one of the scallops. They were also very good. This place also had an awesome view of the boats and sunset. It was fun watching the boats going out and coming back in

The three stars are for the amazing location and view. Food quality is not that great or worth wowing. The hostess was very rude. The restaurant needs to change her duties altogether. She kept giving us a hard time to sit by the water. We order coconut muscles for appetizer. That was decent. Not worth the price though. I order seafood clam chowder. Ummm… I have had better ones. My cousin order a beet salad. Seriously, the start of the dish should have been fresh instead of canned. I wouldn’t recommend any of friends to this place. The Mooring next door has amazingly fresher food than The Landing.

The setting is gorgeous so the place gets a star for that alone. We ordered a kids grilled cheese which was good, but how can one screw that up, so no huge points there. The burger was good. Not so great was the Baja fish wrap. The fish was nicely fried and crispy but the slaw virtually lacked all flavor. I see a review from 07÷05÷15 that applauded the same sandwich and I wish I got that one because mine was LAME. I didn’t even eat an entire half of it. .. The waitress paid no attention to that, a better server might have noticed that a grown woman couldn’t finish more than 48% of a wrap. Our daughter had a Cesar salad that she liked, however a couple of hours after lunch she had a horrendous stomach ache and accused the salad of being behind it, but who knows. With so many restaurants in Newport we’ll try a different place before returning here. I am sure it’s a great place for a drink.

I was in town for a wedding, and stopped by here on my one day to explore the town. I had some form of a casino – it had spinach and cheese and was delicious. The waitress told me it would be appetizer sized, but even so it was more than enough as a meal. I didn’t have to wait, had a seat by the water, all in all it was a lovely experience. When I asked the waitress what a casino was, though, she looked at me as though I had asked her to explain how fish breathe underwater. I’m from a landlocked state, the menu didn’t explain it at all, and I don’t know maybe don’t look at me like I’m crazy? Anyway she did finally explain it(although she tried to compare it to something else I wasn’t familiar with to do so. Overall service was lackluster but not bad, the food was good but not great, and it was expensive. You’re really paying for the view and the tourist location, which I was okay with, but I wouldn’t go back.

We went for lunch. The steamers were delicious, as was my sandwich, the Baja wrap. The sandwich was moist, tangy and full of flavor. I also got the fries, which were crisp. One of us had lobster and we had to ask for butter. Aside from that, it was all good,

I never write reviews but the service was horrible. My girlfriend and I went there today to have some oysters and a drink and the staff acted like they didn’t know where to sit us because we weren’t getting a full meal and weren’t sitting at the bar. They served us the smallest oysters I have ever eaten and the Bloody Mary was terrible. Our waitress was very nice though. Still, you never want to make your customer feel like an outcast and they did that when we arrived. Also, small point, but the oysters are $ 2.75 each but they offer an «oyster platter» of 16 oysters for $ 44…that is still $ 2.75 per oyster! It is not a deal! Typical overpriced crap on the water. Shame on me for going there I guess. Benjamin’s on Thames Street was way better and actually much less pricey.

We went here on a trip to Rhode Island, and unfortunately we were rather disappointed. We ordered the ceviche scallops and lobster burger and both were underwhelming. The service was very slow and they messed up our order. We ordered the burger with no mayo and cooked medium, but the burger came with mayo on top and was well done. One thing I like about this place is the location, right on the pier and has a large outside deck that overlooks the water.

Do not get the Lobster Mac and Cheese and expect. mac and cheese. This is the description on the menu — LOBSTERMACARONIANDCHEESE cheddar cheese, tomatoes, roasted garlic, fresh herbs Sounds delicious right? Instead, the two people out of our party of 8 who ordered this got lobster on top of pasta in tomato sauce. When I told the server this wasn’t mac and cheese — he came back after he spoke with chef who then said that it was a mushroom demi glacé with tomatoes and roasted garlic. Um… ok. Where’s the cheese? There was no MUSHROOM in the description either. What if someone is allergic??? Please do not list this dish as mac and cheese because you clearly do not know what mac and cheese consists of. I could not have been any more disappointed in the food, but the drinks were good and the service was even better. It was a nice try trying to save the lobster mac and cheese, but there was no way I was going to wait for them to make me one when we were already starving. For the price and quality of the food here — it is not worth it. Venture somewhere else.

Was at the Landing for a company dinner! The view itself it perfect! The apps passed during happy hour were NOT finger foods… hard to hold a glass of wine an caprese on garlic bread or baked clams with no plates or forks? Dinner was filet & lobster claw out of the shell, vegetarian dish was mushroom ravioli with a gluey consistency. We were rushed out because dining area turns into a club at 10pm!

First of all I’m not from Iowa. Love Iowa but messed up setting my account. I’m from Mass and Summer in Newport. I have just read some of the reviews on Unilocal and the negative reviews are not accurate. My family and I have been coming to the Landing for years. Frank outside is always happy and welcoming he is the sweetest guy to my family. Kevin has my boys chocolate milk ready before we finish walking in. My home photo was taken on my sons birthday last weekend. This is one of our favorite places. The staff is great. The music the food, drinks and the staff are great. Please remember when reading the Unilocal reviews their not always accurate. Give this place a shot and come to have fun. Tell Frank and Kevin Kimberly, Mark, William and Michael sent you!!!

Don’t go for the food; don’t go for the experience. Don’t waste your money and time. Down in Newport for my girlfriend’s birthday, we went out of our way to visit The Landing on a friend’s recommendation. The table was beautifully sunny; everything else was a trainwreck. The food was lackluster, at best, and the service was awful. The host was rude, told us that it was«at least a solid half hour wait,» and was already giving away our table when we arrived 15mins later. I am not usually one to write anything against a server, thanksless profession that it often is, but when I tracked her down to tell her we had to leave before our three-hour parking expired, she barely showed concern. We waited so long after placing our order that one of us took out a deck of cards, and no one in the restaurant seemed to find that strange(or think to fill our water). We stayed because we were a very conciliatory group, and very hungry, but we shouldn’t have. The menu had interesting options — lobster quiche and lobster grilled cheese were the biggest draws. Both were bad. The fish sandwich I had came out of a freezer already breaded. McDonald’s filet-o-fish is a little more tender. The fries were tasty, but they were $ 2.50, not the $ 2.00 that our waitress told us when we pressed her on what she meant when she said we’d have to pay«a little more» to get them on the side. Finally, my friend ordered tea because she was chilly. The tea came out cold, and when the waitress finally came and asked how we were doing(the food still hadn’t arrived) she offered to get her another, but charged her for two. If this review feels like a litany, it’s because the experience was a continously compounded disaster. We didn’t complain when they forgot to acknowledge Julia’s birthday — we didn’t want to wait until it was dark enough to see by candlelight.

Food & Booze :) Been here plenty of times w/minor complaints. Service kind of lacks especially when it is super packed. But whatever I can’t complain always a good time for me when I am here. Nonetheless you get a great view of the waters and boats at the docks. This place normally has a cover charge upon entering which is kind of ehh. But I think if you get there before a certain time no overcharge.

The food is awesome, the sangria was great and to top it off the view is spectacular. I picked the lobster roll, the bread is nice and fluffy. They fill it with a lot of lobster, they had this mayo sauce with a lemony ting to it. Ah man it was great, with hand made fries it was well worth it. Btw in the menu it clearly states fries are $ 2.50 I don’t know why people keep complaining if I’m not mistaken it’s printed in bold! Anyways the fries are great, not greasy with a good crunch. My girlfriend selected the chicken wrap oh almost forgot for the app’s I elected the stuffed quahogs, if your visiting for the first time and are a seafood crazed get this! Man those things were yummy, my gf got the clam chowder not as thick as I would like them to be and she also mentioned that it was lacking potatoes. Our waitresses was on the ball, when my cup of water was almost empty she was right there to fill it up, when we needed extra napkins she was there the service was A++++ All in all the place, the food and the service is awesome. My only complain is the price, I would like for them to be more competitive in that department with that said I give this place a solid 4 stars.

Aside from a cozy outdoor bar, this place was just average. I came here with a bunch of people on a Friday early evening. Ordered a beet salad which came COVEREDIN quaggy blue cheese dressing. I re-read the description and it was normal — beets, blue cheese, walnuts, etc. NOTBLUECHEESEDRESSING. Like when have you ever seen a Beet salad with DRESSING all over it? The bartender tried to argue and seemed confused but was nice in the end and took it off my bill. My friends tried the sesame wings and baked fish and they were average. Calamari was pretty tasty.
